    Another moment of deep relaxation. I’m learning to weld as a retirement project and after seeing some of that welding don’t feel quite so bad about the look of some of my welds! Interesting use of the bevel/ straight cut gearing combination even allowing for the prototype nature of the Nemesis! AM 2024 the stamp of ‘Just perfect’

    The alternator wire comes out directly into the hot exhaust with clearly isn't ideal. (A) can the alternator cap be rotated at all ? (B) in worst case, you said you will repaint it anyway, you might seriously consider trying to modify the cap so that the wire comes out in a different place/in a different direction as far from the exhaust as possible (and replace the wire with wires insulated with Teflon ie very high heat resistance (you can get that from RS, its used for military equipment etc)

  • @thomastaul4438
    @thomastaul4438 3 месяца назад +2

    If it’s possible to be at bit creative with the internal cable routing in the alternator. Modifying the alternator cover allowing the wires to exit the alternator furthest away from the block. This would leave more distance between the alternator wires and the hot exhaust manifold.

    😎💯
    I'm looking forward to the next episode.
    I believe you've now made it clear you're going to make a new exhaust manifold shaping it away from the alternator. You may possibly even be considering fabrication of a heat shield of some type.
    I was not able to tell from the video, of course, the "exact" dimensions of the alternator's bolt-hole centerlines compared to the alternator's shaft centerline nor the potential interference that could happen because of the alternator's aluminum housing shape.
    However, my question is whether the alternator could be rotated and offered up again in order to reposition the electrical cable exit even further away from the exhaust manifold you are planning to fabricate?

    If you'd somehow manage to split the exhaust into two V4's side to side, that would probably be the most ideal. Trying to fit any kind of 4-1 manifold into that space is just asking for heat related issues. Before putting it back into the museum, I'd think it will undergo another attempt on the top speed run. Burning it up on that run would make an awesome YT video, but I would like to see a complete success instead.

    Maybe a good idea to check the max RPM of the alternator, (you said 4 x crank speed), could be the reason it wasn't fitted...

    Hi Allen,
    You had a new alternator drive gear made up by Allgears. This had straight teeth to replace the old one which had helical teeth.
    Don't you need a matching cog for this drive gear also with straight teeth? I assume that with gears you have to mesh straight teeth with straight teeth, or helical with helical? You cannot mesh straight with helical?
    Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Alan - if you read this - do longer form (unedited would be ok) videos, maybe on a separate channel, I know they would get watched, you could do a live stream at a particular time each night (or on a schedule) again - people would watch - by people i mean me and a few other nerds.

    Would it not be possible to re-route the alternator wiring so it exits from the base? I`d imagine that even with a bit more clearance on the manifold you`d be constricted by the frame and tank as to how much you can raise it

    It seems a shame if you can't just reorient the alternator to avoid the exhaust, I guess some heat shielding wrap is in order for the lead. Lovely work as always Allen the cupcakes will be well deserved.

    How about feeding the wires from the alternator out the end of the cover? That way the wiring is not near the exhaust and would give you more latitude with the manifold.
