When I first saw Star Wars in 82, I was confused as to how Luke seemed to bond with Biggs so quickly. It wasn’t until the special editions that I understood they already knew one another.
yeah, the problem was that it wasn't integrated organically. I like what George wanted to do but the actual scenes were boring and would have dragged the movie down. Discovering Luke with the two droids was the right move, I think. In order to have Luke's social life integrated organically, we should have seen it after the droids joined him
@@erin_3569 I think the scene could have worked if it was between the droids in the pod in space then cut to the Luke watching scene then switching to the droids getting out of the pod afterwards. I don't think it'd dragged things out too much, it could have worked. It'd also worked to empathize with Luke as more of an underdog. The original plan of inter-cutting it with the opening fight would have been a bad one though.
There's a really dark deleted scene where Ponda Baba gets his head chopped off by Obi Wan. This is probably why Han mentions "another killing" to Greedo in the other deleted scene
@@Wesley_Peter_Redmond There is a video from a channel called Film spaced where he talks about the lost footage of new hope the scene is at 21:34 in the video if your interested.
Poor BIggs. I have always loved that deleted scene and the "back story" of Luke and Biggs' friendship. It is probably the only scene that should have been included in the original. They should have changed it to just Luke and Biggs' at the Tosche Station.
Fun fact: The mention of Luke's father was was edited out the with a green-screen person, who walks near the camera. If you pay attention to R2-D2, who gets lifted up to the X-wing, you noticed that he is way higher on the top than he should be.
The reason the girl turns and yes for no reason is because she was almost hit by luke on a speeder, so she's yelling at him. It was just suppose to be added on digitaly.
Actually, there were three editors in total that worked on this edit, along with George Lucas himself. Marcia didn’t actually do that much work, she did do some though, and some of the stuff she did was very good. But most of her edits were the first half of the film, and she actually fought to keep some of the deleted scenes (like the scenes with Luke and his friends) in
I think the part where Biggs and Luke are talking, in the beginning, could have worked. It explained a lot of the later dialogue with his aunt and uncle about all of his friends leaving and Luke having to wait to get into the academy.
Don't know if you're kidding or not, but the old woman shaking her hands and yelling was yelling at Luke for whooshing by her so fast in his speeder on his way to the Tosche Station. She yells something like "You kids need to slow down!" This is actually in the original novel.
I recently found out Chewbacca was actually dubbed as well (probably so Han's interactions seemed more genuine) That's right, Chewie says actual English lines which perfectly match Harrison Ford's responses in two incredibly rare scenes where the special effects weren't even added yet. I have no idea where you can find those scenes, but as sure as cockney Vader, they exist.
I know one moment is in the Empire of Dreams documentary. It’s the scene where they come up with the plan to get to Leia. Chewbacca says “That old man’s mad”, after Obi-wan goes to shut off the tractor beam.
The old woman was supposed to be waving her hands at a speeder almost hitting her in an American Graffiti style scene as Luke pulls into Tosche Station, and the voice saying "Charlie" was George himself telling the milk dispenser guy to start pouring.
Is it just me, or does David Prowes' Darth Vader voice sound like Dark Helmet's voice from Space Balls? Bonus, you can see the Millenium Falcom in a scene from Space Balls.
Wormy being a term kinda makes sense. They live on Tattooine, and a lot of people on the planet know Huttese there, due to Jabba's presence on the planet. Wermo is Huttese for idiot, or stupid. So, it'd make sense that claling him a wormy could be a slang term for calling him a wermo.
@@undeadknight01 I didn't know he thought he was having a heart attack. Well in that case I would. But if Star Wars was being filmed in modern day and George didn't have great health insurance, if any at all, when he fell ill, that'd be the end of his entire career. He'd be destitute.
I always thought the Wormie/Wormy/howevertfyouspellit name thing was a reference to Aurthur being nicknamed Wart in The Sword in the Stone/The Once and Future King, since he constantly calls Anakin’s lightsaber “Excalibur” in some fashion or another 🤷🏻♂️

Personally, I feel like they could've kept the scenes with Luke, Biggs and the gang during the opening scene, the extended scene with Luke and Biggs on Yavin lV, and the extended Joints Chiefs meeting aboard the Death Star. You don't really need those scenes for the movie to still be great, but they just add so much more to the film, I wish they were kept in. Also, I wish they kept Dr. Evazan's OG voice. That guy talking with the thick British accent is just..."chef kiss". I'm sad they didn't keep that in.
I think the old woman was supposed to be yelling at luke on his speeder passing by but they probably has some issues doing the stop motion going towards the camera
why not keep the scene when Biggs tells Luke he is going to join the Rebel Alliance, also they could have saved the "I 've met your father back in the day," scene, that would have been great. The old woman was just hilarious
It would have changed the whole “Luke is in hiding” story, though. If Red Leader knows Luke Skywalker is from the same Skywalker family as Anakin, there’s no way the Empire hasn’t detected him
@@sean668 I think it's not really a secret who Luke Skywalker was. Darth Vader knew, Emperor knew. Even if he went to the Imperial academy people would have noticed eventually.
