Jim Stafford is very comical and entertaining. But, he is also quite an accomplished musician. Most people don’t know that.

I love him so much. Got his autograph in person. 😊
I told him I would never forget his version of the Star Spangled Banner.
It was when he first came to notice on the Smother's Brothers show.
Doing that show, he said, "If i had written the Star Spangled Banner, it would go something like this: He strummed a chord and then hollered "Oh my god we're all gonna die!"
He was stunned that I remembered that. 💖💖

    Needed a comma there.
    "Let's eat kids."

    Punctuation saves lives.

Back when music didn't take itself so seriously...
Jim Stafford had a range of comical songs. This song is clever. My favourite is Wildwood Weed. I remember buying a K-Tel album for a couple of favourite songs that WW was also on and it eventually became my favourite on that album.

From 1974, this was the 3rd of 4, top 40 US hits from his eponymous debut album. The verses are spoken, not sung, lyrics employ a double entendre that suggests romance.
In the last verse the twist occurs and he explains the real situation, "(She's), my girl, Bill. Reached Number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100's, Number 7 in Canada and Number 20 in the UK. Jimmy was known for his comical side and this song shows it well. Good fun tune. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Craig. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

    Hi Harri!
A Great choice and a very personal one to me. In the early 1980’s I worked with Mr. Stafford. I was already a fan and had his wonderful album on vinyl. I worked at a TV and Film production company and they produced a TV Show called Those Amazing Animals. The three hosts were Priscilla Presley (Elvis’ former wife), Burgess Meredith (Rocky and The Penguin from TV Batman) and Jim Stafford. I was put in charge of the runners who were production assistants on taping day. Before tape day there was a need to pick up Mr. Stafford From LAX airport and bring him home. I grabbed that one. It was in a Sunday early evening, about 5:30pm. I took the company Cadillac home and went to get him the next evening. It was uneventful and I had Mr. Stafford in the car and going home a little after 6pm. In Los Angeles on Sunday night was Dr. Demento on the radio, a show full of crazy and funny songs. He is responsible for bringing fame to Weird Al Yankovic. So I set the mood and Jim was happy and talkative the whole ride home. It was a highlight of my 4 years at the company. That and a film credit getting me into what would be the IMDB. 😊
Great reaction and obviously no surprise to me, just watching you was a joy. PUNCTUATION MATTERS should be the secondary title. Did you notice Jim starting to giggle at the end. And yes he’s a master guitarist.
I’m the guy who requested Tori and hope she’s coming up soon but I sit here and anxiously await your reaction. ❤️
Be well and thank you for Jim! Brought back a ton of memories.
    Joe

Master guitarist, singer and entertainer; he (along with Jerry Reed) brought us some of the funniest and most entertaining hits of the early '70s. I especially like his not-funny-but-eeery hit song from 1973, "Swamp Witch," a perfect tune to keep in mind for next Halloween.

what a difference punctuation makes! my girl bill or my girl, bill? so clever. jim stafford always adds a touch of humor (sometimes more than a touch) to his songs. something so lacking in today's music. also, as some have said, he's a great guitarist. check out him doing mason williams' "classical gas".
