    The NZ try scored by Christian Cullen against Australia, with a double wrap-around, Lomu as a decoy, Umunga makes the break and passes to Cullen - anyone who follows Rugby will know the try I'm talking about ... surely that's the pinnacle of set trick plays. It was a work of art.

    1st one from the blacks: the flying half starts offside (no possibility to run forward before the ball is out from the scrum)
    2nd one from the blacks: obstruction on Harinordoquy in the lineout creating the big gap for the try.
    Nice to watch, nicely played, but should be denied.

    Dan Carter’s try against British & Irish Lions in 2005…one of the best tries ever. Can’t remember which match but he takes off then as he’s about to get hit he kicks the ball forward, gets a perfect bounce & runs it in for the try. Also, All Blacks’ try where Carlos Spencer hikes it between his legs.

    Some of those clips were not trick plays just regular plays. And what with those forward passes that were not checked. Like the one where the Flyhalf turns around and kicks the ball over his head. That shouldn't have been a try simply because a couple of phases on, one of the okes throws a massively forward pass.

  • @martinbennett2228
    @martinbennett2228 Год назад +3

    What are the rules for throwing a ball forward for yourself to catch? If it is permitted, I am surprised we do not see more of it.

    • @leithscrumhalf4143
      @leithscrumhalf4143 Год назад +2

      As long as you catch the ball without it touching the ground or another player then you can play on. In fact, it's perfectly legal to juggle the ball all the way to the line and score a try!
      We don't see it happen because it leaves you in a very vulnerable position. The ball is deemed to be in your possession so you can be tackled at any time. Imagine running, looking upwards with your arms raised, ribcage exposed.... it's like being taken out while you jump for a high ball.

    • @martinbennett2228

      @@joedennehy386 it is permitted. Nothing in the laws to say otherwise, however, the player is deemed to be in continuous possession, so the O’Driscall move is not ‘shear class’ it is obstruction and should have been a penalty.
      If anything, eg: opposition player touches the ball when you try such shenanigans, it potentially becomes a knock-on.

    • @MGoose66

    @Skyscraper2015 Год назад +2

    Also several of those "trick" plays like where Brian O Driscoll causes a teammate to cause obstruction by not passing him the ball and then running behind him. Somehow I can't see that being a legal try. Ref would have called it back for obstruction although we don't see what happens straight after so maybe the ref did call the players back

      @@MrBrynmair the ball didn't touch any other player or the ground so throwing the ball and catching it is within the rules, otherwise every time a player fumbled a catch and recovered the ball before it hit the ground there would be a penalty of some sort.

    Je regarde 2 minutes 22 et 3 actions qui méritent rappel : l'action des NZ après mêlée et celle après la touche en finale de RWC 2011 sont entachées d'obstructions grossières. L'essai de Woodcock n'était pas valable car les avants NZ qui étaient vers la ligne de touche poussent les avants français sur le côté pour ouvrir la porte. On n'est pas en NFL! Enfin, l'action après le coup de pied retourné (bonjour l'otarie) est entaché, elle, d'un en-avant de passe d'un bon mètre!

    Alright, I played rugby for 6 years... does anyone agree with me that in professional rugby they get wayyyy more leeway with forward passing? I feel like every pro game I watch, there are 2-3 passes where it's definitely not backwards, and definitely not lateral. Is that just the way it is, since they're pro, the refs give them more benefit of the doubt?
