- At a home European Championships in Romania, one of the world's best swimmers has yet to pick up any silverware. After finishing 4th in his main event the 200 freestyle, David Popovici is praying that he can get a medal on the last day in the 100 free. Did David peak in 2022 or will he be back at his best for the Paris 2024 Olympics, lets talk about it.

He didn't peak too soon...he already said he had an off year with school, he has his priorities straight...SCM is not where the big boys come to play....Many guys we see here winning (besides a Richard or Proud) are not going to win in LCM...like take Grousset, he got beat by Noe Ponti, but in LCM Grousset absolutely dusted Ponti...everything has to be taken with a grain of salt.
Blows my mind if he thinks school is a priority for a world record holder.
Noe didn`t swim nearly as well in Fukuoka as he is now. I'm pretty sure he's going to beat grousset real soon LC
Unfortunately school is a priority when you're in a sport that isn't very lucrative...he said himself in his interviews @@australiancreepycrawlies6417
Ponti wasn’t at his peak at fukuoka
Bruh, Ponti is literally an olympic medalist in LCM, very poor example
I hope not. The guy is amazing and knows swimming, works hard, and seems to be very smart about his training and attitude towards the sport.
Agreed
It's over for him and he knows it, that's why he's trying to divert the attention. He took the miracle poke. He was on the national media promoting it too.
@@EngineeringFun he's under 20 and came 4th in the 200 at Europeans and 3rd in the 100 whilst in full training. It's clear his career isn't over
Would be nice if the his surname is spelled correctly, Popovici and not Popović.
Popović is a Serbian surname (like Jokić the basketball player), while Popov is a Russian surname (like Kutcherov the hockey player).
@EngineeringFun I’m saving this comment for when he proves you wrong
The stroke looked much better than worlds last year
Trajectory is good then
I'm not an internationally successful swimmer with world titles and several records under my belt, but as a competitive swimmer of about the same age as Popovici (I recently turned 18), I can relate a LOT to not doing well mid season. My "signature" event is the 200 backstroke, and even in that event which I'm usually pretty good in, my first couple meets of the season were absolutely horrible, and even this last weekend when I had my mid season meet that we did a short taper for, I still didn't hit a best time. I was disappointed, however I also need to remind myself that I've been doing some very difficult training designed to break me down, and on top of that I'm 6'5" and weigh 200 pounds, so needless to say I produce a LOT of lactic acid in training which I probably need more than a week and a half to recover from. I imagine Popovici is in a very similar situation. I have no doubt that he will be fantastic in Paris.
Watching David's freestyle reminds me so much of elite mid-distance freestylers of the late 90s/early 00's. Ous Mellouli, Ian Thorpe and the like. He's a stud sprinter and will surely continue that focus, but wow I bet his 400/800 would be incredible with the right base training.
I’m not great at stroke and turn analysis and as someone who swims currently I’d hazard a guess that he finds it’s harder to get into a smooth rhythm over scm and in lcm imo he is able to just swim a lot smoother.
You also mentioned that some may taper once and go as fast as possible and wether he did that or not at this meet I’d say he performs better doing the opposite, like when he set that world record he’d been to about fifty comps that year😂
Nowadays LC swimming and SC swimming are completely different sports. He struggles at turns but he’s going to shine again next year in LC.
yup and even with that showed great resilience to get a medal today!
DAVID IF YOU SEE THIS PLEASE DONT GIVE UP WE BELIEVE IN YOU
Is anyone really thinking this?
Eu falo português; como faço para concorrer uma toca dessa ??
The answer is no. He was focussing on school, as he should. The SCM Euros aren't a big enough seal to train hard for. It's just a swimming carnival.
The Olympics are what he should be training hard for…..
@@TheSwimsuitGuy That's certainly more important than a small local swimming carnival that's not as important as his education.
A really insightful and well thought out video. I think you nailed it in regard to the what we may / may not expect from him come the summer. Let’s just hope it’s a summer of the fastest swimming ever and that he can be one of those contenders. But I do hope the British boys get the better of him on the 200 🤙
What’s the new arena skins they are all wearing
i wouldn't worry about it, i think shortcourse doesn't suit him - his underwaters not bad, he's too tall
He swam worse this SCM europeans than the SCM worlds last year. The concern is the overall regression that started this year with LCM worlds and now is consolidated with the SCM europeans. There is still time until Paris obviously, but there's no guarantee he can ever recover the 2022 form.
I think he worked very hard the winter before his WRs and it paid off. I think he didnt work that hard after his WRs and didnt. Now hes working hard again. But thats just my guess.
Did he breath a couple times in the 50?
What two swimmers do great Britain put in for the 200m free at the Olympics, dean, Richard, guy, Scott?
The top 2 finishers at trials
@@TheSwimsuitGuy obviously 😂😭 who do you feel that will be? 😭😂
thanks dude for your input. Try to use a microphoe closer to your mouth to improve audio quality. The rest is great.
Yes I’m back at my parents for weekend and didn’t bring my mic, check my usual uploads
David is a better swimmer every year but the young Brits are improving at a quicker rate. Jimmy Guy pb at age 27 is amazing.. will be close next year. Tom and Duncan to come back in.
Jimmy is 28 now! Shame there was no 4x200 here!
It's over for Dave and I bet he regrets it. He took a certain medical procedure. His cardiovascular system and possibly heart are irreversibly damaged. Such a lost opportunity.
Mizuno review?
This week is the plan!
It seems like Popovici is "heavy", maybe due to his preparation for OG. In 200 he didn't show the "raw" comeback speed that he had in long course (SCM is not is speciality).
next year david will dominate next year in Paris
did anyone see on the scoreboard david's country flag is france
The British boys 1-2 we love
I think he needs to go to USA for training, he can improve and get his true peak there
WHERE IS FULL MIZUNO REVIEW
Think I’m going to film next weekend
before watching...its a pretty simple "NO" to the title...now ill watch the video.
Did you enjoy the video?
Was he unshaved untapered unsuited at the European Short Course Championships? Is the mission to Beat Biedermann in the 200 and the 400? Is he willing to take L's now in order to dominate Biedermann in 2024?
I don’t think he’ll be doing 400 in Paris
Don't you think Biedermann will be tougher to beat in the 200 than the 400?
yes @@gianpolignano2632
He is not Short course swimmer !!!
See what he did in 100 free final!!
7th till 75 mtrs and then got podium from there!!!
Was a brilliant last 25
i think he'll be fine in the 200. But that Chinese kid is winning the 100m
Thats what ago does to people calling hime self cloriene daddy , respect the water first ..
Im here first
🤝
To be honest, his technique looks completely different(worse) than his peak
The elephant in the room is not mentioned. His heart and possibly lungs are irreversibly damaged. He took the jab and he was advertising it in the national media. Darwin at work.
Most of these swimmers took the jab.
