    Bruvac says "mill twice as many" so lets say your opponent has 100 cards in your deck, Xander attacks, they mill half their library, which is 50 cards. Bruvac would have them mill twice as many, which would be 100 cards. I believe this is how it should work and they would combo. Strionic resonator would just copy the ability meaning half and then half again.

    • @TransformersBoss

      To be fair, if you mill half the library (rounded down) with Xander, then Bruvac doubles it, if the player has an odd number, say 83, that player mills 82 and survives. For now.

      yup, that's how it works.
      "If an opponent would mill one or more cards, they mill twice that many cards instead."
      best case scenario for the player who gets milled is that they have 1 card remaining because if they have 99 they lose 49, then 49 again because of the "twice" effect leaving them with a single card.

    Stifles are seeing play because you wait for the thoracle trigger to go on the stack to cast consultation and remove your library, but your opponents can still get priority to respond to the thoracle trigger afterwards and stifle it, thus killing the thoracle player to their own combo.

    Seth was saying he wanted Rigo to be mono-white, but you can literally just build it as a mono white deck anyway because of his costs. Bonus if you have a few treasure generators or command tower/untapped nonbasic lands and want to splash the tiniest amount of blue or green for added power.

    I see Lord Xander as a commander with creature doubling effects and clones like Flameshadow Conjuring, Molten Echoes, Phyrexian Metamorph. This way you could get multiple instances of his etb and death triggers. Even then the rounded down and single target clauses means you need him to etb and die 3 times to get rid of 5~6 cards without your one target opponent keeping their best thing in hand/battlefield. Another use of him as a commander is foreshadowing that you're actually pox tribal.

  • @Dayyyjoey26

    Slip out the back is actually soooo good, I will shove it in any blue commander centric deck. It can be used to dodge spot removal at the same cost as the cheapest counters , phase out a lethal attacker coming at you , dodge your or your opponents board wipes and turning them one sided in your favor, remove a stax piece that is stopping your game plan so you can go off. The versatility on this is absolutely wild and so much than you can get from any of the 1 mana counterspells.

    I'm glad Giada is mono white, sure there's a lot of cool multicolored angels, but there are dedicated zombie decks in mono black as well as two color and three color, so there's options for everyone, just like you can play mono green elves even though you can also play golgari. It would be unfair if the only good angel commander they printed ever was multicolored first, instead of white, where there should be an option.

    • @EvilMagnitude
      @EvilMagnitude 2 года назад

      Totally agreed. I run mono-W Angels under Lyra and I'm very glad Giada gives a very strong mono-W option.
      People often just assume Angels need a 5C commander because Dragons got one, but the reality is that outside of WBR, there's like 3 Angels most decks would actually want to run (original Sigarda, Maelstrom Angel, maybe new Linvala). They just don't need a 5C commander. Something like 70% of Angels are mono-W, compared to only 54% of Dragons being mono-R, and like 90+% of Angels are concentrated in WBR, where the corresponding amount for Dragons is like 70%. Angels needed a good mono-W commander first. Now that we have that, they need good WB and WBR commanders. Only once we have good tribal synergy commanders in each of those slots do we need a vanity luxury 5C commander.

    I think phasing out in response to a boardwipe is infinitely better than countering that boardwipe. It turns an opponent's wipe into a wrath that you completely dodge! It's like you played a one-sided wrath. Resolving a March of Swirling Mists with a full board when your opponent tries to wrath then you come out EVEN FURTHER ahead than if they'd never cast it!

    As crazy as it sounds, considering the hype around the card, Bootlegger's Stash is being slept on by a lot of people. Yes there's synergy and combos and all the stuff that Seth refers to, but that's not really what I'm talking about. Everyone can see it's good with Korvold or Chitterfang. But I disagree with Richard and a large portion of the community when they say it's not generically good.
    Outside of a somewhat expensive mana cost, although it's green so it's not that hard to play, this card is just really good. And it's not about using it specifically as a ramp piece. The value in this card is it the mana sink aspect.
    You're in green so you ramp into this thing by turn 4 or 5. Once it hits, as long as it sticks around, you now have incredible flexibility in your decision making. There are plenty of games where you have a big threat in hand that you don't want to play because you're not ready to take advantage of it. If you play it, you become a threat and it eats removal and your now behind, but if you don't play it you feel like you're falling behind on board because you wasted mana. But with bootleggers stash you don't need to rush out your high mana threat before you're ready, you can play a low drop and/or hold up removal or protection and then before the end step before your turn, make a black lotus for later with your 3 leftover lands. Throughout a game, each player usually wastes a ton of mana because they don't have the cards to use their full mana every turn. The person who wins the game us usually the one who was most efficient with their resources, meaning they had the least amount of wasted mana. This card ensures that you never waste a land on a turn cycle.
    Also, most games of EDH aren't won by playing one threat at a time. Having ways to multi-spell and have an explosive turn is what pushes a game in your favor and this card is a great enabler for that type of play

    Actually, Bruvac + Xander is an entire library mill if they're at an even count, leaving them with 1 on an odd count. Bruvac doubles the amount milled, not the number of times the mill effect occurs.
    What would mill half, and then half of the remaining would be if you had a Strionic Resonator or something doubling the ability trigger.

    on the topic of cards and all these new phasing things. there's a card called time and tide that does exactly what you guys were talking about. its double blue instant "Simultaneously, all phased-out creatures phase in and all creatures with phasing phase out." it's gonna be real sweet for all this phasing shenanigans. it unfortunately only hits creatures but that farewell gonna hit right.

    I agree with Richard, Bootlegger's Stash shouldn't be Green, because Green openly shouldn't get treasure very often, it's already the only colour that has land ramp as an inherent thing for every Green deck, I think I greatly dislike this card, even if it's pretty pushed, it's also clunky and stupid. If you break Bootlegger's Stash, you're not clever, you're picking up fallen fruit, and that fruit is also beyond it's prime: I don't expect to see a lot of this in cEDH, I think you need more for 6 mana... this card would have been obscenely good years back, now's it's a playable card that some people think is much better than it is, I suspect, because it's really easy to see how to break it compared to most other stuff. I can't see how this will ever stay this high in price, but Meathook/Great Henge are still absurd, and Henge long ago rotated out of Standard (which now only matters if the card is exclusively played in Standard, and that wasn't true for Henge). It's a good card that should never have had Green in it's identity, BR or UBR would make more sense to me, I don't associate Green with smuggling on any level, smuggling is a 'parasitic' industry that only can exist in a stable/well established civilization with laws and consequences, I don't expect Garruk to open up a whiskey still anytime soon, but if Tibalt did I wouldn't bat an eyelash (I might be curious to try it). I guess Garruk could brew beer maybe, but even beer is 100% a civlized thing, one that arguably brought civilization about in the first place (if you're addicted to alcohol, and people used to get hooked WAY easier before thousands of years of selection for easy availability, you need it and you'll do almost anything to get more, that's how addiction work, even if it means you have to join a civilization where you (and your descendants) are stuck on the bottom in perpetuity, addiction can make it seem like a reasonable deal. Sure, your diet sucks compared to a hunter/gatherer, but you can get drunk on the weekend and the gatherer only can get a mild buzz if he eats lots of rotten fruit/naturally occurring mead, which is either super-gross or almost impossible to find with any consistency. Anyways, it's a bad choice for the colour pie, the flavour is bad, and the design feels comically lazy, it's literally 1 short sentence, there is no nuance or complexity to the card.
    Slip Out the Back is a fine effect, this is a really easy way to protect 1 creature from almost anything, and it's only U to do it, which is great value. March is a bigger/more versatile card, but it's also clunkier in some cases. It seems like an absurdly good card in Jeskai, and Slip Out also seems like a playable card ultimately. Getting a +1 counter at instant speed is probably worth about 1 coloured, getting the added perk of phasing the creature is the real meat of the card, where once again you can sneak your creature out and then Blasphemous Act or Vanquish the Horde, which would feel pretty good I expect. Slip Out being just U to deal with almost any effect that is a problem for any creature is potentially a lot more versatile than a counter that only deals with spells, I don't remember any counters that cost U to counter any spell or ability, that's a lot bigger than the new U counter, which does nothing vs abilities of any kind. I could see myself running Slip Out in my Zur deck of all things, where it can phase out a dreaded Opposition Agent for U, which would allow me to find Necropotence (and leave potential resources to affect a 2nd Agent if I'm that unlucky) to have removal waiting for when Agent phases in.
    I like Facebreaker, but I'm not sure it's quite as good as Richard thinks? But yeah, as he points out, this is stupid with all the effects that generate a huge amount of treasure, and while getting a few treasures isn't a huge problem, getting a lot is busted and anti-fun, and giving people a new (and powerful) use for already powerful treasure, one that deals with the drawback of treasures (that they aren't card draw), this is just why did this make sense in a world where most people do not care for Grim Hireling, it's looked at as a problem card outside cEDH, and this is another (potentially much better) Grim Hireling that costs less mana. In STANDARD. Because yeah.
    Halo Fountain seems like a bad card to me, but I know 15 creatures can happen for some decks, but it's nowhere near as easy to bust as one of the combos that just churns out mana and uses it to win, this is fine in white-heavy decks where you also have lots of tokens to power it, elsewhere I suspect you have better/more efficient ways to win. It's easier to just run a pre-existing win con, but this is also fine I suppose if your deck can generate infinite token creatures (or even just a very large number of them) and you're in White, which is a niche I suppose? I think I'd run it in my Anax and Cymede deck, if I ever get it finished, mostly for the other abilities though.
    I feel like everyone tends to develop some signature style to their deckbuilding, I think I've fallen in love with Stax at some point, many of my decks feature some manner of Stax effect, I'm pretty sure that the A+C deck I'm working on will have a Static Orb in it, and it's weenie aggro, my Multani deck runs Defense Grid and Hall of Gemstone, it's almost everywhere at this point. Maybe everyone is starting to build Stax decks and I'm just trying to fit in?
    Luxior has a huge drawback in that it makes PWs harder to deal with via combat damage (you can't swing at a creature), but creatures are HILARIOUSLY easy to remove compared to PWs with actual cards, be they wipes or removal, dedicated PW hate is very rare compared to dedicated creature solutions.
    Life Loss vs Damage is usually not a big deal, but I know in my dedicated 'infinite combo' deck (which does nothing but combo off or lose utterly) tries to include ways to win that don't involve targeting anything, and has The Great Aurora as a solution to otherwise impossible board states, because they can happen and my deck cannot count on winning off of combat damage (though I guess it could, it's just bad at it, even if it can easily generate infinite creature tokens they won't have haste for example, I have Altar of Dementia to mill people via infinite creature power instead), but it does have Sunscorched Desert that deals damage to win I guess? The deck can usually dig for answers when it's infinite, so you'd normally just put out your Psychosis Crawler to kill everyone since you can reshuffle your graveyard in as needed, and it combines life loss with non-targeted effect/easy activation, AKA the gold standard for pinging people to death.

    Isn't Selesnya Angels with a Sigarda or Shalai as Commander the best option anyway because you get access to better ramp, better overruns, and better card draw? Would have made a lot of sense for Giada to be green as well.

    Richard reacting to basically a flicker instant that keeps counters like it's the newest mechanic in magic got me in tears.
    Also, regarding treasure... Idk if you guys played a board game called Mage Knight. It has mana, but also has mana crystals, which is a way to "save/store" mana. I love that Magic managed to develop a way to do so in Treasures. It was a thing that was missing in this TCG, a way to store your resources for the turns that matter.

    • @charliewright2667
      @charliewright2667 2 года назад

      But it just removes the need for effeciency and good deckbuilding completely. Can't use all your mana this turn? Instead of being punished for poor deckbuilding, just save it for later! Plus it just further increases the speed of the game, leaving the high end battlecruiser cards that the format was literally invented for high and dry.

    48:50 yeah, I'm pretty sure there are a number of creatures that reanimate something on ETB, and you just need one of those plus a creature with greater mana value and a sac outlet to go infinite if Riveteers Ascendency didn't have the once per turn clause.

    Was Seth's Bruvac and Xander interaction explanation correct? I thought Bruvac doubled the mill quantity as a replacement effect, not doubled the trigger. Could be wrong, but just wanted a sanity check.

    • @direkitsune
      @direkitsune 2 года назад

      It was not, with Bruvac it will double the rounded down number so full mill or mill to one. Thats why people hated Bruvac

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish 2 года назад +1

      It's not, for some reason I was thinking that Tomer was talking about doubling Xander's mill ability (which doesn't really work), Bruvac and Fraying Sanity do work the way Tomer wants (there is still chance that your opponent will end up with one card left in their library since Xander's ability rounds down rather than up, but you can either mill all of someone's deck or all but one card of someone's deck in a single attack).

    I keep seeing people complain about Green shouldn't be the color that makes artifacts, but it's the second best color at making Treasures.
    The issue with Treasures is simply that they're artifacts to begin with, but they need to have some sort of card type on them, and being Enchantments would make them stronger.

    I mean I'm using bootlegger's stash in my niv reborn just for the mana fixing (though I did also toss in a academy manufacturer as well to go with it). I literally run chromatic lantern, world tree, chromatic orrerry and now bootlegger's stash to fix my colors because if I don't get a way to fix my colors, I'm not going to be able to cast a single spell.
