I wonder if Nick Castle (subject end of the interview about the comedic aspect) created the character that plays the second in command to the Duke (the one who gives Lee Van Cleef the President's finger.) I always really liked that character. He just exudes psychopathy that perfectly puts the rest of the prisoners in perspective.
He did splendid with this...And, the music score as well ! I am playing the original tunes on my channel now...You may enjoy..Thanx for this, John ! Great Job
What made the movie great and made it work was the chemistry between kurt russel and john carpenter! You cant try to simulate that chemistry with a remake using another director and leading actor. So i vote no for a remake : P
Sure thing. He just seemed a little bitter that he was viewed as a hack by many in America. He no doubt appreciates his US fans very much indeed (and rightly so), but he did appear happy that fairly 'high-brow' European critics saw art in his work, and didn't dismiss him as a low-grade horror director. I saw his lecture at the UK's prestigious National Film Theatre, which says a lot about how he is viewed in the UK, as does the fact he was asked to host a Hawks masterclass. :-)
Can we get Escape From Groundhog Day? Snake Plisken has 24 hours to kill everyone in Punxsutawney, PA. so he can leave town & avoid waking up & hearing that same damn song again. lol
Did you know there was gonna be a Jackie Chan film where he was a window washer for the World Trade Center, but then he has to foil a terrorist plot to destroy the towers?
This film has a great cult following and rightly so, it reflected the way the world was in 1980/1, I give it full marks for originality, characters and script, the acting is fair, while the score is a John Carpenter classic, Escape from LA, what a load of shit.
Zayd Depaor Absolutely correct: we are in a police state. Art don't imitate life; it's the other way around. He even said something along the lines of: "Yeah-- I went to the big rich studio boys in the mid 70s and they said: 'No--no-- we can't beat up on our buddies over in the government right now.'" Why not? Because the rich bring us our movies, music, our culture; they own and control most of the newspapers and media in the world, particularly Hollywood. Just the rich fucking around with us bottom feeders via the Hollywood propaganda complex.
I love that John Carpenter did his own theme music, which I think really played a huge role in how his movies made you feel.
Loved this movie as a kid and still do now.
We need s 3rd installment.
Just call it "Escape"
The last escape
I love both these suggestions.
There was one - Ghosts of Mars - give it a chance

+FailedComedian He did improvise that character heavily, especially the first time you see him with the weird mouth opening/noise... all him.

I can't believe that no one has posted the opening narration where the lady explains how it is...
I love Escape From New York, but god damn, I don't think there's any movie with more of a "made before 9/11 vibe" than this.
Happy Birthday to John Carpenter!
John Carpenter is one of my 3 favorite directors of all time. (the other 2 are Chag Cheh and Sergio Leone)

The kind of movie mades from dreams or nightmares.
I haven't seen that, but I mean, in Escape From New York, they actually have Snake crash a plane onto the World Trade Center.

Great great movie! But I wonder how John feels about what is going on right now?
I remember you... we had geography together!
@metalstormimpaler ...true story? in that case it's a PROFOUNDLY futuristic ^^

How about escape from Detroit? It's pretty much run down in a lot of areas.
