Sure, the Cyberdark support added to DL makes it better, but it'll still get bopped 9/10 times once you hit Gold Rank. Inferno would fix this, but Konami probably doesn't want another "Amazoness Princess" situation.

There are plenty of archetypes that simply don't function as intended or at anything near their full power in DL's limited card pool. Cyberdarks at least have everything except their targeting/destruction immunity and "Harpie Dancer" effect. Calling them "not bad" because they play almost exactly like their TCG form is a _bit_ of a stretch, though.
I think Alien Counters are one of the few counters that aren't bad. Many of the Aliens generate counters on their own and receive a -300 attack and defense per counter PER alien with that effect. 3 counters on a blue eyes and three alimo on the board drop BE attack by 2700. Tell me that's useless. It's not meta, but it's at least a decent rogue deck. On top of that, it's a terribly fun deck to play. Nothing makes me happier that using A-Cell Recombination Device in tandem with either Brainwashing Beam or Mysterious Triangle. And extremely flexible deck, I always have an out when playing my alimo deck But yes, corruption cell a sucks

Due to the absolutely garbage monster removal at the time if an Ancient Gear deck managed to not brick and summon Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem a lot of decks had basically no way to deal with it. Except for one card basically everyone else was playing: Enemy Controller. It was literally so ever present that you could presume every single deck you went up against had it before it was semi-limited. So if you had a Trojan Blast in your backrow and they stole your Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem then BOOM, 4400 damage to the face instantly causing them to lose the duel. It was always funny to pull off.
Back in the day they actually held sealed events, like Magic does... I think a lot of crappy GX cards were actually designed to be played in a sealed format. Also I want to see a tournament that's just Ancient Sanctuary to Cyberdark Impact (+Polymerization obviously).
A nice Blue-Eyes tech: Normal summon Maiden, use Hermos on a Dragon in your hand, equip Sword to Maiden, it targets so she activates and you summon a Blue-Eyes from your deck. Better than Senet Switch.
Alternatively, you could give her a "Time Magic Hammer" by using one of your "Eyes of Blue" monsters (preferably Master) as Hermos material. Instead of having ATK reliant on GY setup, just banish their monsters for a few turns.
Just use WoD if they mindlessly fill all 3 slots and then swing. I've noticed Straight Flush is more devastating for a bad card nobody uses, but is in Duel Links, ESPECIALLY against Amazoness and Silver/Gold scrubs that fill backrow on turn one.
It is much more usable in Duel Links. If for some reason you can't run WoD or Needle Ceiling to bail your ass out, it would be a decent option to try and come back from the brink... But it has to be in a deck with enough balls to fight back from nothing as well. (And Needle Ceiling isn't great either, but I has saved my butt a ton because NOBODY sets cards)
They SHOULD have been very strong considering they were the chase archetype. Buying new stuff and still getting beaten by Goat Format things is a sure fire way to make your player base frustrated.
In the anime, Cyberdarks used Level 4 or lower Dragons. But Konami probably thought this was too strong (lol it isn't), so they bumped it down to Level 3, making Cyberdarks complete trash. They had to make Explorer Dragon and Hunter Dragon just so Cyberdarks could have any targets besides Masked Dragon.
Ouch. I actually play a Cyberdark deck, and Keel is my mascot. Like, whenever I need a Heart of the Cards moment, I draw Cyberdark Keel. And only one specific copy - I have a UTR and a Shatterfoil. And it's always the UTR that shows up when I'm in a pinch. Things started working better when I embraced it as my mascot. And this card "sulks" when I make changes to the deck. :P
7:30 don’t want to be that “um actually” guy, but kaiju counters have actually already found a use in link decks. Just set waterfront and focus on summoning skull dread. By the time it hits the field, you should have enough counters to search Gameceil and can special summon it with skull dread’s effect, basically giving you 2 solemn judgements that can recharge Just wanted to bring it up because it is literally my go to/win condition play for my World Chalice deck
World chalice is about the only deck that can actually utilize it. And its completely rendered null and void if the field spell gets hit/negated etc. Sure an extra link deck like WC that doesnt really have anything beyond an e link benefit from it but those decks are not competitively viable
Honestly I can see Senet Switch being used in, like, Mekk-Knights or something. A few of their monsters could benefit from it, like the one that can pop an opponent's monster that's in the same column as it.

Still can't believe we got a single use version of Senet Switch in Extreme Force, earlier this year, in the form of Column Switch. Wattkinetic Puppeteer from that same set at least lets you mess with your opponent's monsters
Dave forgets about Bushido counters in Six Sams...you know...Gateway searching and summoning from GY, United drawing cards, and Dojo summoning from deck. And the "better" of the 2 field spells which gains Bushido counters to knock your opponent's monsters down

Jaden's dck went from E-Hero to Neo-Spacians, and Zane's deck... Went CyberDARK. In the anime, they are slightly better. Edge, Horn and Keel can equip LV4 or lower Dragons, and Cyberdark Dragon can use either players Grave. ...Good thing Konami nerfed them, or they would have dominated the meta. *rolls eyes* I believe Exploder Dragon was invented for Zane's deck in the anime first, then printed. Same with that 2000 ATK 4 star Dragon that dies after attacking. Which was primarily used with Horn,/Edge/Keel, and not so much with Cyberdark Dragon.
Spell Counters have so much support that they aren't bad. Tempest Magician, Arcanite Magician, Breaker, Endymion, Royal Magic Library, and Magical Exemplar come to mind as cards that make a good enough use of their counters to be usable.
'Of the Forbidden Spell' literally means it's referencing a banned card. It's not necessarily the SAME spell being referenced in both cards. Cursed Seal is making a joke about the card being 'banned' once this is used to counter it, and Flash is referring specifically to Raigeki, which was banned at the time.
I've used Chain Healing in Duel Links just cause there's missions to make you play a bunch of Trap cards. Paleozoic Chaining from the GY can help Chain Healing get off at a higher Chain Link.
My predaplants tried to solve the issue by having the monsters place counters and doing things with monsters with counters or there level being reduced by the counters
On an unrelated note: for your next tournament you could every card that is at 3 is semi limited, every card at 2 is at 1 and every limited card is banned.

Not really the point, because it's been this way for a decade now, but counters are only bad as a mechanic because the format and searchability of this game leads to 3-4 turns being considered late game. If 50+% of the game wasn't decided t1 then counters could actually be viable in different instances. But Konami has yet to show any serious interest in fixing the absolute brokenness of the formats speed so yeah.

That’s not the problem with counters. The problem with counters in YGO is that nothing sticks around for long. In other games you can keep monsters on board for a long time but in YGO you’re going to use that monster for a summon, or you’re opponent is gonna out it, or you’re going to let it die for a different card effect. It’s the same reason equip spells have never been good
People say this set is the yugioh equivilant to the MTG set "homelands". A set where one of it's best cards blew up every card in the homelands set. I liken this set to be closer to mercadian masques. Has some pretty solid cards, but surrounded by so much shit it's hard to find
I like cyberdarks and even before the legacy support I had a decent build (for casual play). It was more synchro focused with dragunity phalanx and black salvo as the tuners. And I updated it with the buster blader tuner with the phalanx eff. Also hunter dragons. I don't blame him for putting keel on here though, his effect is awful at least the other two were semi-decent. Honestly most of the time I just forgot keel had a second effect it was just so useless
um you forgot the play for maiden with eyes of blue. The best for her effect to kick off is the field spell they have. If not then the other tuners to set her effect off.
I used it a lot back when shaddolls were good to stop them from using shaddoll fusion. And the El shaddoll got released and it just didn't matter anymore.
Eh, Cyberdark keel might be the worst of the cyberdark monsters, but his basic revival effect and attack boost makes him playable enough, especially with the new support. Combo master's chain effect isn't that bad either, Tons of decks make chains just doing their normal plays. I'd sub these guys out with blast asmodian, its a non once per turn burn effect but it requires chaining a spell/trap card activation, so its basically impossible to exploit unless we get a quick play spell that is super easy to recycle. And Cyber Ogre himself. I love the card, and it could be good if it got any support, but a monster that specifically relies on having multiple copies of itself, without any support to make that strategy viable is really unfortunate. I mean technically its searchable with fusion conscription, so yay?
Thought of a cheesy OTK with Trojan Blast: Use Gift Exchange on something like Mind control Summon Cyber End Dragon Set Trojan Blast and anything else to stall for a turn, and limiter removal Turn 2 They play mind control you gave them(they likely will to get rid of your 4k beatstick) Chain Trojan Blast Chain Limiter Removal Limiter Removal resolves Trojan Blast resolves You win, 8k damage with 3 cards Is it bricky? Yes. Is it a gimmicky OTK/FTK? Yes. If it becomes meta I'll probably be laughing my ass off
In defence of trojan blast, there is a few cards like silent honor ark and thousand eyes so maybe side deck opt is there but then again with link monsters in play you'd be stupid not to run boroload dragon in there so maybe it's ok

Some were totally busted like those Spells you can banish from your hand for Quick Effect burn and disruption (thank Holactie those never got printed), but some were total trash, like the "Cyber Ogre" series and... well, everything except HEROes and Cyber Dragons.
actually you could complete the requirements for Flash of the Forbidden Spell yourself if you used Ojama Trio. almost everyone used that card (Ojama Trio) cause there were no good ways to get rid of the tokens back in 2007 and they clogged up the opponent's field. no generic fusions were around at the time either.
Far be it from me to defend senet switch of all things, but doesn't it help Mekk-knights since they can only be summoned in coloums with a certain numbers of cards in it? Now I could be wrong because I don't play the deck but I don't think they have an archetypal way of changing columns by themselves except the um... You know the silvery looking one with no legs but like a pointy chakram thing for a lower body?
I've asked a couple mekk-knight players about senet switch and they tell it's just kinda not worth it. At best, you summon something in a colemn that already has cards in it, then use senet switch (which is probably one of the cards allowing you to summon in that column) to move it, then summon another in that same column. Sure it allows you another summon, but there's far better things you can run to accomplish the same thing.
To be fair, Konami probably thought they'd wind up making a lot more cards that stole monsters, but then they realized how broke that mechanic is and decided it wasn't a good idea. You'd have to put so many restrictions on them to make them balanced, and even then they could become broken down the road, and it's a card design nightmare. Just not worth the headache.
I unfortunately attempted to play Chain Healing in aromages because I could chain a bunch of healing effects and either get this in deck or hand easily... I'm obviously a scrub lol
I remember this pack showing up at the dollar store down from where I played at the time. It has some interesting cards in it, the problem is that the rest of the set has half-baked mechanics and terrible card design. In reality, this set defined yugioh for years to come. The good cards it it shine even brighter later on.
The only thing I can see stray senet would have been much better if it let you move any monster because then you could at least do stupid things with Mekk-Knights, but they really don't need that.
At the very least that's a decent way to take advantage of maidens biggest downfall. She's a spellcaster. Not a dragon. If that bitch was a dragon, she'd still be played as a staple in all blue-eyes decks.
@@silverfang4583 she wouldn't be used over stone of ancients, but she would be far better than stone of legend. Stone of legend does nothing while it's on the field. You can trigger maidens effect with sage, or the field spell. And turning her into a target for cards of consenance would make her much more useful that a single search that requires it to be sent to the grave.

Calling normal monster based, named material fusion HEROs better than neo-spacians is highly debatable. Neos is awful but both are pretty trash

So it is a lot better in links than the tcg. Your opponent having 3 cards happens a lot. People having 5 monsters is very rare.

People say this set is the yugioh equivilant to the MTG set "homelands". A set where one of it's best cards blew up every card in the homelands set.
I liken this set to be closer to mercadian masques. Has some pretty solid cards, but surrounded by so much shit it's hard to find

I like cyberdarks and even before the legacy support I had a decent build (for casual play). It was more synchro focused with dragunity phalanx and black salvo as the tuners. And I updated it with the buster blader tuner with the phalanx eff. Also hunter dragons. I don't blame him for putting keel on here though, his effect is awful at least the other two were semi-decent. Honestly most of the time I just forgot keel had a second effect it was just so useless
I can't wait for all the Barrier Statues that will show up next week.

um you forgot the play for maiden with eyes of blue. The best for her effect to kick off is the field spell they have. If not then the other tuners to set her effect off.

I feel like trojan blast could be a half decent counter to borreload.
Does borreload count as "taking control" of the monster? I'm really not sure.
Cursed Seal is great because there's just no way to deal with Lingering effects once they've gone off; if you don't negate it, you suffer forever.
And it's a counter trap, so it's nigh impossible to stop.
Judgment, wire tap, and 7 tools are basically the only cards that stop it.
I used it a lot back when shaddolls were good to stop them from using shaddoll fusion. And the El shaddoll got released and it just didn't matter anymore.
Eh, Cyberdark keel might be the worst of the cyberdark monsters, but his basic revival effect and attack boost makes him playable enough, especially with the new support.
Combo master's chain effect isn't that bad either, Tons of decks make chains just doing their normal plays.
I'd sub these guys out with blast asmodian, its a non once per turn burn effect but it requires chaining a spell/trap card activation, so its basically impossible to exploit unless we get a quick play spell that is super easy to recycle.
And Cyber Ogre himself. I love the card, and it could be good if it got any support, but a monster that specifically relies on having multiple copies of itself, without any support to make that strategy viable is really unfortunate.
I mean technically its searchable with fusion conscription, so yay?
i play cyberdarks and keel is still the worst and rather get edge or make winda
like I said, keel is the worst of the cyberdark monsters, but it is more usable then cyber ogre or blast asmodian.

In defence of trojan blast, there is a few cards like silent honor ark and thousand eyes so maybe side deck opt is there but then again with link monsters in play you'd be stupid not to run boroload dragon in there so maybe it's ok
Counters aren’t awful. Most are, but bushido are pretty decent, and you even brought up kaijus. What other decks even make counters besides aliens and like mythical beasts?
Trojan blast might actually be a half decent tec against vampires

Some were totally busted like those Spells you can banish from your hand for Quick Effect burn and disruption (thank Holactie those never got printed), but some were total trash, like the "Cyber Ogre" series and... well, everything except HEROes and Cyber Dragons.

actually you could complete the requirements for Flash of the Forbidden Spell yourself if you used Ojama Trio. almost everyone used that card (Ojama Trio) cause there were no good ways to get rid of the tokens back in 2007 and they clogged up the opponent's field. no generic fusions were around at the time either.
Flash of the forbidden spell would be a decent card if it was quick-play.

Far be it from me to defend senet switch of all things, but doesn't it help Mekk-knights since they can only be summoned in coloums with a certain numbers of cards in it? Now I could be wrong because I don't play the deck but I don't think they have an archetypal way of changing columns by themselves except the um... You know the silvery looking one with no legs but like a pointy chakram thing for a lower body?
I've asked a couple mekk-knight players about senet switch and they tell it's just kinda not worth it.
At best, you summon something in a colemn that already has cards in it, then use senet switch (which is probably one of the cards allowing you to summon in that column) to move it, then summon another in that same column.
Sure it allows you another summon, but there's far better things you can run to accomplish the same thing.
And now Senet Switch is part of the Valiants archetype and it actually is decent in that archetype....what a weird time we live in.
Do you think counters would work better if the player received them instead of cards on the field and could pay for cards effect with them.

Dark Lucius is likely an Earth monster since it is Warrior Dai Grepher if you flipped tails with the Paths of Destiny.

Trojan Blast is all flavor with no practical effect. So many YuGiOh card were made for the story alone.

To be fair, Konami probably thought they'd wind up making a lot more cards that stole monsters, but then they realized how broke that mechanic is and decided it wasn't a good idea.
You'd have to put so many restrictions on them to make them balanced, and even then they could become broken down the road, and it's a card design nightmare. Just not worth the headache.
Venom was good with counters though just gotta play them the right way

Kinda wierd cuz im psure theres more usable cards in this set than there was in the last set with the barrier statues snipe instant black horn etc.
I unfortunately attempted to play Chain Healing in aromages because I could chain a bunch of healing effects and either get this in deck or hand easily... I'm obviously a scrub lol
I remember this pack showing up at the dollar store down from where I played at the time. It has some interesting cards in it, the problem is that the rest of the set has half-baked mechanics and terrible card design. In reality, this set defined yugioh for years to come. The good cards it it shine even brighter later on.
The only thing I can see stray senet would have been much better if it let you move any monster because then you could at least do stupid things with Mekk-Knights, but they really don't need that.
Moon Mirror Shield? No, you gotta use Wonder Wand man; 2 cards. Great for farming decks in Duel Links.

Stone of legend does nothing while it's on the field. You can trigger maidens effect with sage, or the field spell. And turning her into a target for cards of consenance would make her much more useful that a single search that requires it to be sent to the grave.
Uhhhh... Zane did use Exploder Dragon in the GX anime though.
Spell Counters can actually be busted if played right. There is a whole strategy revolving around them burning your opponent.
