The Haindl tarot is my choice deck scince 2002. It is very complex, I like the ecological theme. It is more complex than the Thoth in that it uses all 64 I Ching hexagrams, runes, elements border colors on the majors, and the court cards depart from tradition with using different cultures for the four suits. Egyptian mythology for the swords, mixed northern European for cups, Native American for stones, and Hinduism for the wands. A rich, technical, beautiful and unique deck.

I came across the Thoth deck at a flea market when I was about 11 and felt instantly drawn to it. It always gives me accurate and clear readings, and has been a great aid in meditative exercises.
Over the years I've been gifted a few other decks but I don't get the same feeling I get with Thoth deck so never use them.

By the way, A Crowley is not as dark as others who many follow today! His teachings were just very progressive in the period of time that he excelled in his work. He was not specifically evil or dark nor was he insane or mad… he was just extremely progressive!

If I'm being honest, I think because Crowley was exposing a lot of hidden knowledge to the masses from secret societies he was largely judged, and I bet developed a bad reputation.
Who knows for sure how he really was!
But even if it was all true, there's no denying in the end he transformed and used his best ability to bring out the Thoth Tarot.
He was a complex character, but that doesnt mean he wasn't redeemed or found clarity of the bigger picture in the end.. His start in life was extremely fear based led by his family under indoctrination. He was also judged for being bisexual in the Golden Dawn society by such figures like William Butler Yeats, which shocked me, because Yeats is associated with my hometown of Sligo.. So you learn much every day.
And I think back then, much was shunned about working on shadow-work too, but we know Crowley was on a journey of discovery too because of his past trauma.
Complex figure for sure, but very human too.

As a French person by birth (embracing the historic moment of the death of monarchy by guillotine) & communist by spirit (we are meant to be free but humanity needs to get organized for it), I really struggle with queen/empress/prince/princess type of archetypal symbolism (all of these things represent unearned power to me in a way that I can't divorce from the symbols when learning about practices like this).
Does anyone else come from similar ideological frameworks & struggle with this aspect of tarot decks, while also wanting to be able to connect with the historical mysticism of it all?

There are decks that don'e use those offices. But whenever something like this shows up, it's an opportunity to reclaim the titles or transmute the meaning.
