in yellowfang's secret (I think) it's said that lizard gives birth to a few kittens, and yellowfang gives brokenkit to the 'queen'. Lizardstripe is then reffered to as a 'him' when one of the elders tries to convince them to eat.

Not against the idea or trying to disprove it but I think you may have mixed up Lizardstripe and Lizardfang who was also in yellowfangs secret and had a scene where littlebird an elder was trying to get him to eat
