Three videos in a week :) I missed the Zoom meeting, but it's great to see new content. Let's all look forward to a time where we can return to film, as well as our other daily activities safely. Thanks, Amber!

i am a background actor (SAG) so I'm always trying to learn how production decides on casting background. You touched on it in this video, but I would like to get deeper into the role 2nd ADs play in that process. Like when using Central Casting, how do you decide what Casting Director (from Central Casting) you use, or does Central Casting make that decision? When you request background from Central Casting, are you deciding how many union versus non union are to be hired? When you request background from Central Casting, say 20 people, does Central Casting send you X number of photos to choose from or does Central Casting just decide who to pick? Would love it if you devoted a video just on background actors and interactions with Central Casting. For many of us it is just a mystery. Thank you.
Thanks Jim for your great questions! So for featured BG the director will get sent options and will pick. For bigger scenes the script will lay out what types of background and then casting company will take it from there. Based on how many depends on what's asked for with the script. As far as union vs non union - the first 25 BG MUST be SAG. Then after that will be non union. But also any specific things with BG those folks on top of the first 25 will be SAG as well.
@@BeyondFilmSchool thank you. So, if you are working a pilot and need background actors and you've decided to use Central Casting as your resource, would the 2nd AD call Central Casting and request a specific casting director or would Central Casting make the call on who gets to cast that show?
The 2nd calls central and each project is usually assigned a person. I imagine 2nds have a favorite person to work with. But I'm sure they probably could request a person.
Lol... I'm not an actor on tv but I play one in real life ;) AND I am ok having a "babysitter". Trust me, I NEED you to keep me on track. Thx. And Thx for the video.
Thanks Amanda! Haha it's funny I've had this a few times when Key 2nds want to explain to family and friends what they do they send my video 😆 it's so awesome! Thanks again for sharing!
@@BeyondFilmSchool thank you for the reply! I watched so many of your vids I commented on the wrong one lol 🙈 my hats include producer, first ad, director, editor, etc. but that’s being in house in Nebraska 😇

I have seen ppl climb the AD ladder and then hop right into directing. It's def a path, might be a longer path. I don't think it's the most efficient path. But the benefits to being an AD is working with the Director so closely, you'll learn a lot
Great video, thanks for sharing :D

The zoom meeting was great. Sorry you missed it. New videos every week- trying to stick to that 😎😁🎬🖤
Super video once again! Would you ever consider doing role explanation videos on other departments, like camera for example? Keep up the great work!
I def could. 😎😁

Production company, or studio

Great informative video! Would you say focusing on working towards 2AD, 1AD and (hopefully) director, is a feasible route to becoming a director?
