I was thinking they would make great adult action stories! I wish they would follow more of the original plot in stories in a lot of these but then have a happy ending in a lot of this for the adult versions, it could be so thrilling and still work out! However, I thought The Hunchback one actually sounded more boring than the original Disney version!
Since the 80s babies are in their 30s now or turning 30 I think it's time we hear and see a movie of the original versions now.I think they would be good for us now that we are older and I think it would be interesting to see these darker or original versions. Anyone agree???
The little mermaid, Cinderella, Rapunzel and parts of Snow White are normal to me. I grew up with these versions here in Germany. It wasn't disturbing or anything like that, calm down.
Well the Cinderella story isn't that bad but the rape in Pocahantas or the being held hostage and having your hands cut off in Beaty and the Beast, how can those seem normal???
Mulan's real story is like this Mulan wants to go to the war because her dad has heavy sickness and there's her younger brother that can't go ofc and her mother have to stay home and take care of mulan's father. After she won the war,The king lets her to stay in the Castle,But mulan choose to go back to her family but there isn't a bad ending. She said that "Girls can be as strong as boys, girls can be strong." But this story is not real,It's just a legend.I know this because im Chinese and I just learned this not too long ago. Hua mulan (花木蘭)
yeah.. they based mulan off a poem which is based on the real character but obviously dramatized.. the actual heroine had a different tale from the poem I believe... but I'm not a historian haha
exactly! and one of the sentences at the end of the ballad says that the comrades realize that she was a woman and stay beside her twelve years, then its say "The rabbit's legs jump more, the eyes of the female one are smaller but if you see them running, who can tell the diference betwen a bunny and a hare?" it's spaking that there is not diference betwen a man and woman about what both genders are capable of. A beautifull ballad.
Funny: now it's waaay to scary to children but when I was young these versions are the exact same version that were told to me when I was a kid and I loved all of them😍
Why unknown? Most children from middle Europe only knew the originals before Disney came along and what should I say... We liked them better than these pink rainbow pooping glitter stories ^^
+Icey Sue. Well this is why you shouldn't believe Disney movies, it's all a bunch of lies, plus the things I've caught in Disney movies (hidden messages) Are fucked up.
In Snow White the prince and snow have the evil stepmother wear hot iron shoes that she's forced to dance on untill she dies. In beauty and the beast Belle does end up with the beast while turning him into a prince again. Her two sisters are turned to stone by an enchantress after trying to kill Belle because they were jalouse of her. They can turn into a human again if they can find love. Which, considering they're made of stone, would be pretty hard.
People who believe that Disney princesses always get there "Happily ever after" is a fool, I'm 13 (almost 14) and I've knew the original stories about Disney princess and there tales since I was 9 years old. The one thing I hate most about Disney is that all the princesses are skinny and unrealistic, I get that it's a movie, but they could make it more realistic.
That's not my point at all, I was just pointing out Disney characters are a slight bad influence in many ways, but its okay to believe in the fairy tales I'm not saying that you're a fool for that at all, I have my opinions, you have yours, and I respect that.
The little mermaid was actually given a set *time* to be sea foam before she becomes a mermaid again. I believe it was like 1,000 years or so. It's not forever. The prince in Rapunzel doesn't *jump* from the tower. The witch pushes him.
In rapunzel he goes blind and lives in the woods until she finds him and revives his eyes with her tears of joy. They then live together in the desert with their five children.
I like her stubbornness in the Disney version. She was a bit weak in the original story, but she's pretty awesome either way. Also, Frollo is such a cool villain :D
I agree the narrator told you the true version of Sleeping Beauty Disney it's dark & not pretty just like all the other fairy tales so get use to it. I myself like the darker versions.
There is a story about a boy who always sucks his thumbs and a man cuts them off in the end. Or the boy who doesn't eat his soup and starves to death. For example
They would have seen Gretel dump the witch into her own oven, burning her to death. The Brothers Grimm had some seriously horrible things in their stories, which became happy-go-lucky animated movies. Bravo, Disney, you make little kids think that there is nothing but happy endings in the world, and then they're thrown into the real world and realize what the truth is.
The Little Mermaid is not "forever" trapped. She has to be a ghost for 300 years, but a year gets taken off for every time she smiles and a day added for tears. Then she gets to go to Heaven.
For Cinderella and Tangled... Some of those facts are included in "Into The Woods" the step sisters cut off parts of their feet (by order of the step mother) and have their eyes pecked out. And as for Tangled, her fake mother does cut her hair and banish her. And the prince is blinded by thorns but cured by Repunzels tears.

Into the Woods used the darker versions of the original stories in the original musical which then made it the same in the movie version of Into the Woods. Idk what this comment has to do with the disney animated versions because it's totally different.
Don't forget that about 18 months later, someone opens up the tomb and finds their skeletons. What is left of Quasimodo is grasping Esmerelda, and when the person tries to separate the bodies, both crumble to dust and ashes.
Did you guys know, that Frozen is based on Hans Christian Anderson's story "the snow queen?" If you say "Hans, Cristoff Anna Sven" fast, you Hear the writers name!
There's an children channel that makes animated versions of these stories with their backgrounds. They are mostly with Jamican versions of the characters.I have literally no clue where this channel went but it was an very nice memory to know I learned the dark stories about the princess!!:)
ommmg does anyone remember the barbie version of rapunzel? when the witch cuts off the hair and then pretens to be rapunzel on the mask ball, that movie was great.. i live in germany and oddly enough ive never heard of these original stories until i looked it up myself.. guess i was blinded by disney too :D
The thing about Pocahontas being raped and becoming pregnant via said rape is merely hearsay derived from oral tradition without an solid evidence to back it up. Also, looking at the date of her marriage to Rolfe and the birthdate of their son, their marriage took place on April 6 of 1614 and Thomas Rolfe was born January 30th of the next year; assuming her pregnancy lasted the full 40 weeks, I suppose it's possible she could have been pregnant at the wedding, but it's also possible she could have gotten pregnant immediately after. As for her first marriage, the jury is still out on that one; apparently oral tradition claims she was married, but only one document mentions this person and some people say it may have been referring to John Rolfe by some kind of rank that Powhatan gave him. Also, her cause of death was never determined; only one author claims she was poisoned; it's just as likely she got some disease, since death by sickness was a relatively common death on sea voyages back then. Just felt like I should mention these things.
+princeofalbany What you said is pretty true, since no one is over 500 hundred years old, any recorded history is pretty vague as ANY man, politician, or royal figure can pretty much be poisoned, and any female figure can be raped, or any person no matter ethnicity or gender can be strangled to death with their deaths forever left a mystery. Apparently, history is just for those who are just loves the drama and questions that surrounds it. History isn't written by what is moral or right by today's society's view of what is right and wrong, but on who writes it first, and which nation comes out as dominant in that time period. As if today, most Western Societies write modern history... but what does that say about the future being controlled by another dominant force from a new form of foreign land or nation? Humanity is always interesting no matter what they do, Morality is only human perception.
+princeofalbany Thank you, people teach history so one sided now the bias is nauseating. We know that Natives had no immunity to European disease and that is probably what killed her.
+Prince ofDarkness THE HOLY QURAN IS 1400 YEARS OLD ... AND NEVER ALTERED! WITH PROOFS OF THE PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE... TRY READING ITS STORIES YOU WILL BE AMAZED!
Insomnia Psycadellic If I experienced something and tell that experience to you, would it be the same of actually being there? No. That's the sad truth of history, we can read all we want, but we can never experience what these individuals experience themselves. In fact, to this day a lot of us still believe Abraham Lincoln is a good guy, without actually understand him, it's called true bias.
I am Taiwanese and I know the Mulan thing in this clip is untrue. The tale never said Mulan went back to a broken home, nor did it say Mulan married to anyone or committed suicide. The ballad this clip mentioned was in my Chinese textbook, and it ends at Mulan's family threw her a big party when she returned home, and Mulan proudly said "who could tell I am male or female?" There are some drama and literature tried to tell the story after Mulan went home, but they are all fictional and none of them ends with Mulan becoming a concubine or killing herself. Most of them end with Mulan marrying her team mate in the army.
I love how in every Disney princess movie girls are like Oh we don't need a man GIRL POWER!!! Which I'm all for girl power, but no one ever mentions what happened in the hunchback of Notre Dame when of corse Esmerelda falls for the more attractive man. I mean of corse who would fall for Quasimodo he has a lazy eye and a hunchback. Sexist. But if we say that Esmerelda was a boy and Quasimodo was a girl and he fell for the more attractive of the to people would be furious.
Yah that always bothered me. It's like "hey if you're ugly you can't get a girlfriend" and I agree if the shoes were reversed and Esmeralda was a boy and quisimado a girl people would FREAK out. Like let the uproars begin
I always only knew The little mermaid's original story before Arielle. It was a sweet childrens book with loads of pictures... yes, including the foam-thing and her hurting feet she tries to cool in the sea. I loved it
I have some of the original Grimm Brother stories. I've read them since I was, like, 6 or 7. I think I may have been an evil child, I always thought they were kinda funny. Geez, little Em, what was wrong with you?
The only Disney princess I like is Mulan even doe she doesn't marry or come from royalty I like her because she proves women can be strong and is a very very independent female she stands up for what is right and doesn't get everything she wants like the others both Disney and the real Mulan are amazing I wish Mulan didn't commit suicide it makes me sad
The Disney version of Cinderella isn't based of the Grimm version of the tale. It's based of the of the Charles Perrault version, which does not include the step-sisters mutilating themselves.
Just realised my dad used to play me and my sister a tape of the Brother's Grimm stories (definitely Cinderella)... and they didn't cut out any of the gruesome details.. Thanks, father. xD
Most of these, I already knew of. However, there were a few important side details that were left out. For example, in the the original tale of Snow White, it wasn't just the apple that did her in; it was a combination from the three poisoned objects: a girdle, a comb, and, yes, an apple.
Obviously, I am not happy about the variations on the beloved Disney movies, that I've loved being so much more gruesome but I have known the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales to be as such and think they're at least honest in the retelling of the original stories; thank you I appreciate it!
I think that you got these dark Disney princess stories from Roald Dahl's revolting rhymes!!!Because in school,my teacher read out Roald Dahl's revolting rhymes for Roald Dahl's 💯th birthday!!
You forgot to add in the Rapunzel story that the reason Rapunzel is in the tower with the witch is that her father sold Rapunzel to witch in exchange for a head of cabbage because he was starving.
As a Chinese, we all learn "The Ballad of Mulan"(the origin of Mulan's story) in junior high text book (acctually a very important part in our high school exam), the ballad said no such thing about concubine and suicide, she was bestowed with the position of military chancellor but refused and returned home safely, that's where the story ended. Mulan was a real person living in 1500 years ago, but the concubine and suicide story was from a 15th century's novel and recorded only on a tablet in a local Mulan temple( it was said that the emperor wanted her to be a concubine but she refused by killing herself). So even in China, as we all know about Mulan's story, the concubine and suicide thing is quite bizarre and questionable to most of us.
I HV been watching this all since I was three ,I really think that its one of a gud memories to share. I would sit with all my frds and watch it. It was really fun, thanks to u disney
I had some audio fairy tales when I was young. I recall that in sleeping beauty at the end, the evil queen is forced to dance in red-hot iron shoes until she falls down dead.
That bit about Mulan is not in the original poem. Here's a link: afe.easia.columbia.edu/ps/china/mulan.pdf See? Nothing about concubines or suicide. The bit about Mulan becoming a concubine and committing suicide didn't come until later, in a novel written in the 1600s, long after the poem was made. While it could definitely count as a "dark secret" to the story, it was not in the original one. The original poem had about as much adult material as the Disney version did.
Kerri Ray I don't tend to believe someone else's claim if they don't support it with evidence beyond their own word. I don't mean to imply that you're lying or anything ('cause you do sound sincere. Or… look sincere. Whatever) but it would be nice to see some sources to confirm it if that's possible. Do you have any?
I'm a Disney girl, BUT I thought they did the little mermaid very tackily, the original was much more beautiful. I also thought frozen was a bit tacky. But I do like the whole sisterhood concept. I thought they did better though with Snow White, she was incredibly stupid in the original (messed up THREE times) and I liked the Disney sleeping beauty better...the whole troll thing sorta grossed me out, prince Phillip was cooler and better. I also liked how they did beauty and the beast better. The whole "I will kill your father" and belle taking his place and then beast going "will you marry me?" Was to bipolar for me. That's my opinion though.
Mulan actually returned from war and continued her get up as a guy and campaigned as a political/military leader for quiet sometime until returning home to take care of her elderly parents. That's when they found out she was actually female but she really didnt get much fame from it while still alive
Man, if they followed the real storyline, this stories would end up a great horror/thriller or suspense movies.
ikr
I never thought of that but yeah...
yeah
I was thinking they would make great adult action stories! The Little Mermaid does become sea foam but doesn't suffer when she does, instead, her death is described as peaceful.
yes she does because her faithful sisters give their hair to the witch so she would help
+Sophie Fraser you're talking about a different version where she lives
I never knew the true stories of 'Disney' were so dark!! 💏

So... A person cutting down her toes just to get to marry a man is not disturbing? Oh yeah.
lene tiinas Exactly! It is normal for me. It's just a bit cringy.
+Apple Kawaii you aren't supposed to feel bad for the villains
They're not really supposed to be considered people, just obstacles in the way of Cinderella getting what she wants.
Well the Cinderella story isn't that bad but the rape in Pocahantas or the being held hostage and having your hands cut off in Beaty and the Beast, how can those seem normal???
Most of there stories would make some killer ass horror movies.

Mulan's real story is like this
Mulan wants to go to the war because her dad has heavy sickness and there's her younger brother that can't go ofc and her mother have to stay home and take care of mulan's father. After she won the war,The king lets her to stay in the Castle,But mulan choose to go back to her family but there isn't a bad ending. She said that "Girls can be as strong as boys, girls can be strong."
But this story is not real,It's just a legend.I know this because im Chinese and I just learned this not too long ago.

People who believe that Disney princesses always get there "Happily ever after" is a fool, I'm 13 (almost 14) and I've knew the original stories about Disney princess and there tales since I was 9 years old. Espi chan Diamond so little girls are fools?
That's not my point at all, I was just pointing out Disney characters are a slight bad influence in many ways, but its okay to believe in the fairy tales I'm not saying that you're a fool for that at all, I have my opinions, you have yours, and I respect that.

The Cinderella dark twists were included in the movie Into The Woods. The stepsisters mutilate their feet and birds peck out their eyes.

In rapunzel he goes blind and lives in the woods until she finds him and revives his eyes with her tears of joy. They then live together in the desert with their five children.
That may be the disney version but...
Toriel Dreemurr What may be the Disney version? The video is about the original stories xD They just didn't do their research!
kitty meow No, I did.
am i the only one who read the original version of rapunzel when she was a kid and didn't realize that it was how the story was supposed to be?
Ayami Sema huh?
SueJi Bae no my teacher read the original Rapunzel story to my class in elementary
SueJi Bae yes even I have read this version when I was 4
Poor Esmeralda :( Best Disney Character of all time
Sloom Sama and most for gotten I love her tho
I like her stubbornness in the Disney version. She was a bit weak in the original story, but she's pretty awesome either way. Also, Frollo is such a cool villain :D

I agree the narrator told you the true version of Sleeping Beauty Disney it's dark & not pretty just like all the other fairy tales so get use to it. I myself like the darker versions.
okay but like everyone in Germany knows the original grimm fairytailes... and there are some that are far more crucial
There is a story about a boy who always sucks his thumbs and a man cuts them off in the end. Or the boy who doesn't eat his soup and starves to death. For example
Yeah Struwwelpeter is one we all read when we were little...
tulipe yeah soo true
wasn't pocahontas like 9?
I believed she was 12,but i'm not sure
I want to see the original fairytales haha
Me too
The movie : Into The Woods. It shows the real version of Cinderella
+Hanji 9029 That's what I thought! 😂
I'll go make my own disney, it'll be darker and have blackjack and hookers; you know what, forget the disney part.
+Hanji 9029 but isn't it by Disney tho? I bet they don't show the grim version
Disney is like giving lives to dark stories.
Children should be taught the REAL fairy stories. Life isn't all sunshine and fluffy bunnies.

The only ones i like are Merida and Mulan, because they show that you dont need a prince to save you.....
I saw snow whites original story before the movie, my mom is from Austria and she had all the original princes story's 😂😕
The only difference is that Rapunzel doesn't have twins in Into the Woods.
And raunzels prine is blind
I actually already knew some of these, they re so much more interesting than the disney versions
Is it bad that I like the real story more?
RedFab Shinigami no
What a way to ruin our childhood XD The Cinderella and Rapunzel part was in Into The Woods, omg XD

I think I read the original version of Rapunzel too!! The 'blinded by thorns' part sounds familiar
I have some with the gruesome endings and since I was raised with both versions im not phased by this either
Yeah, I had something like that! There were loads of tiny books that slid into a set. It included the semi-original versions of stuff like aladin and rapunzel.

Prince ofDarkness Yeah
YOU HAVE UNLOCKED A SUSCIRBER
Lmao
Great video, keep it up.
+Yeo Wool yeah it bugs me so much.
At lease he gets a girlfriend in the second one I guess >:/
+Geeky Giggles (Nepeta Leijon/Eve Strider) I have never even heard of a second of that movie...
Nathan Dauk Ah xD

When I was a kid, my mother used to read the original stories to me. I was actually happy with the originals.
My grandma told me the real story of Snow White when I was young
I take back what I said before.
*THESE ORIGINAL VERSIONS ARE WAAAY BETTER.*

I always only knew The little mermaid's original story before Arielle. It was a sweet childrens book with loads of pictures... yes, including the foam-thing and her hurting feet she tries to cool in the sea. I loved it
Am I the only one who LOVES the dark versions better?
Candy Gloss no
I love you +Talko I always love your videos and am surprised and entertained by your videos!
Poor girls...being raped its the worst...
Uhhhh...I'm pretty sure The Hunchback Of Notre Dame is NOT a princess...
Well done you have earned a subscriber
I have been told all of these stories as a child
Just realised my dad used to play me and my sister a tape of the Brother's Grimm stories (definitely Cinderella)... and they didn't cut out any of the gruesome details..
Thanks, father. xD
Some of the stories are in the movie "Into the Woods"
Most of these, I already knew of. However, there were a few important side details that were left out. For example, in the the original tale of Snow White, it wasn't just the apple that did her in; it was a combination from the three poisoned objects: a girdle, a comb, and, yes, an apple.
Is it bad that I thought this was TheRichest?
No I did too
no i did to. the voice sounds like the one in the richest
i agree i failed
Obviously, I am not happy about the variations on the beloved Disney movies, that I've loved being so much more gruesome but I have known the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales to be as such and think they're at least honest in the retelling of the original stories; thank you I appreciate it!
they should make them into scary movies and I would wach them
Even if I didn't grow up with these fascinating sides of the Disney movies, this is actually way more worth watching if they were real movies.
this makes me kinda scared to watch disney movies now
+Ivy Cheong who knows waht inside out back story is
+Tommy Yau ME!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that you got these dark Disney princess stories from Roald Dahl's revolting rhymes!!!Because in school,my teacher read out Roald Dahl's revolting rhymes for Roald Dahl's 💯th birthday!!
Came as soon I got the notification 😂
You forgot to add in the Rapunzel story that the reason Rapunzel is in the tower with the witch is that her father sold Rapunzel to witch in exchange for a head of cabbage because he was starving.
Mulan surprised me.
me to
Jasmine

I've read the Grimm version of Cinderella. It's really not as bad as it's described here.
I HV been watching this all since I was three ,I really think that its one of a gud memories to share. I would sit with all my frds and watch it. It was really fun, thanks to u disney
I new the tangled one.I read it in a book
I had some audio fairy tales when I was young. I recall that in sleeping beauty at the end, the evil queen is forced to dance in red-hot iron shoes until she falls down dead.
That bit about Mulan is not in the original poem. Here's a link:
afe.easia.columbia.edu/ps/china/mulan.pdf
See? Nothing about concubines or suicide.
The bit about Mulan becoming a concubine and committing suicide didn't come until later, in a novel written in the 1600s, long after the poem was made. While it could definitely count as a "dark secret" to the story, it was not in the original one. The original poem had about as much adult material as the Disney version did.
Kerri Ray What is the original then, if not the poem?
Kerri Ray And how do you know this?
Kerri Ray I don't tend to believe someone else's claim if they don't support it with evidence beyond their own word. I don't mean to imply that you're lying or anything ('cause you do sound sincere. Or… look sincere. Whatever) but it would be nice to see some sources to confirm it if that's possible. Do you have any?
I don't think you are right. In some other websites I have visited, they said the exact same thing as well.

Mulan was based off of a real world legend.
MY school has the twisted version of 'Rapunzel' in the kids' section.
Am I the only one who listened to the original stories as a kid and thought Disney was tacky?
nope...same happend to me
+Oppa Kunn ihm bnhvvbgghcjvjvncbmgmghghghgvvvvvvv
Same over here
I'm a Disney girl, BUT I thought they did the little mermaid very tackily, the original was much more beautiful.
+Neza best. I listen to the original and Disney.
into the woods is more similar to the original stories then disney
Childhood=Ruined
I AM SO ENRAGED! IM THE ONLY ONE IN THE ENTIRE PLANET THAT HASNT WATCHED ANY OF THESE ORIGINAL MOVIES!
Uh Belle's Sisters in the original story WERE Blood .
She was the youngest
I believe there were two of them
Nightmare Tomb Yes
Mulan actually returned from war and continued her get up as a guy and campaigned as a political/military leader for quiet sometime until returning home to take care of her elderly parents. That's when they found out she was actually female but she really didnt get much fame from it while still alive
