The first time I watched this video a few years ago, I didn't know who Ronan was. The first minute or so I thought to myself "His poi are so long, how can he do anything but basic moves?" and "His style is nice but he lacks complexity and diversity in his moves" and then the beat dropped and I was blown away! I love how his performance slowly builds and builds and builds into a crescendo. It's something I've started to incorporate into my own performances. I used to just go all out immediately but now I'm starting to understand build up and tension and release, of which Ronan is truly a master. He knows how to entertain a crowd for sure. After learning who Ronan truly was - the man who INVENTED contact Poi, I look at my first impression of him as naive and childish
I had to log in so I could leave a comment. I literally watched this with my mouth open and applauded when it ended. I have never seen such smooth flow in a performance before, and I am in awe of the ease of effort with which Ronan spins. I've been spinning for about 3 years now, but nothing I can do comes even close to this. If I could favorite this, I would. Complete inspiration and poetry in motion.
I really enjoy watching this fire spin. sparkling fire is one of the coolest effects, I wonder how amazing it felt to wield that. maybe one day I could experience it. This video is very inspiring and thanks for sharing your awesomeness.
This is definitely not Lycopodium powder. Lycopodium powder quickly ignites leaving a big fire trail. The chemical used in this video is Titanium Hydride Powder, commonly used in fireworks. I strongly recommend against using Lycopodium powder on regular fire poi, there are props designed specifically for use with this powder. Please be sure to research and test any of these chemicals before following someone's suggestions.
We generally sprinkle a bit on it but really the more you use on it the more exciting it becomes, especially for poi if they clash at any point you will get lots of sparkle. Best thing really is to experiment with it and see how it goes :)
Yeah as if you spin off with the powder on it im sure a bit chunk of the powder will come off, again experiment with it and see which results you prefer ;)

I totally agree, its been 9-10 years since this performance and yet it still a great performance to come back to and study.

I wanna know how to make poi spark effect.
Can you tell me,pls
Its called Lycopodium powder and you add it to the prop after you soak it for crazy trails and a sparkle effect.
you are awesome!!! whats the name of the song
So right after soaking it in white gas how much should I put on the head before lighting? Do I sprinkle it or cover it in a layer?
do you spin off the excess fuel before you put on the powder?
just wow
