- Okay people! Here's probably one last ruby centric amv you'll see from me before vol 9 comes out!! This video was spawned by me and someone else both having the same song in a playlist for two different characters, and we realized how similar they are to each other, so I proposed that we each make a music video using this song!
Heres her music video using the same song for Natasha Romanoff! • I'm Doing Fine | Natas...
My ruby playlist is live by the way! Here's the spotify link if people want to check it out!

Now that we're halfway through Volume 9: even more appropriate now. This is amazing.
Wow. That was actually really good. It's always nice to see AMV's that look behind the facade that Ruby's put up for so long and get to the core of the character. A child who is buckling beneath the weight that she's placed on her shoulders. An earnest desire to help turning to overconfidence, misguided righteousness, and overall confusion in direction, while the mask of "keep moving forward!" shatters bit by bit, I sort of loved how V9's teaser showed Ruby doing what she always does, "keep moving forward" and where does it land her? In the same place where she started. The scenes chosen for this were great and helped express the lonely spirit at the core of Ruby.
ooOf yea thats a really good observation from the vol 9 clip. honestly ive always viewed "keep moving forward" as being ruby's mantra to herself, disguised as a clever motivational message. I've been sitting on this "ruby is not okay" hill since vol 3 and have been waiting for something like vol 9 to happen, so it's nice to see that people in this fndm do actually do critical analysis of ruby as much as I do! Thanks for the awesome review!
I hope Ruby is going to get some hugs and support in volume 9. She needs it real bad
@@silvereyed agreed. I saw it and in volume 4 with the sleep issues and the many times she has been shown cracking. Vol 9 is starting out good. But I hope we see that Ruby teased in the very beginning. The strong warrior who takes it all on.
Oh my gosh it’s you. I didn’t even notice this was the same person from the other video. That’s crazy. What other amvs show this?
@@Servant_of_Yeshua96 Haha, I suppose I've been saying the same thing for a while, haven't I?AMV's about Ruby are sort of rare, and those that touch at her inner character, even more so.
There's another fantastic AMV from Ruby's perspective in "Make a move, Ruby Rose", I can't recall any others as of this moment, but if I do, I'll make another comment.
Just liked the comments of this video because it deserves a rewatch to deepen the emotional turmoil that volume 9 is causing us. Ruby may be with her team, but she desperately needs help.
Im just being flooded with comnents on these ruby videos now! Yall are slow to the curb but its welcome! Ive been here so long ive made snacks and everything 😂
REEEE V9E7
Underrated AMV. The number of extra clips that'll fit into this will go up exponentially in Vol 9.
It takes videos like this to remind people why they liked rwby
this AMV really hits DIFFERENT now
Gee, I wonder why this is being recommended to me right now all of a sudden. It probably has nothing to do with how Volume 9 is going...
Rubes... Please be okay
She would be if she just got some heccin therapy
All I've got to say this is beautiful and I love how you show so much of rubys character ❣️ ruby is such a wonderful and misunderstood character imo and I'm sure many others, you did a great job ❣️
Ahhh im so glad you enjoyed ty so muuuuch. Dw this channel is definitely not lacking in ruby praise 😂
vol 9 ep 7 yeahhhhh she aint doin too fine...
Oh man, I can only imagine the AMV's after Volume 9 is fully finished with hopefully a good ending on top of everything that happened
So many clips for this now. Especially with todays episode. If you haven't watched it, go and watch it.
Oh dont worry ive watched it.
yIKES
@@silvereyed Yikes is an understatement. We just watched something on the levels of Berserk twisted. I think watching it broke me a little and I'm a berserk fan. I can only imagine how others reacted to it.
HOW DARE YOU MAKE ME EMOTIONAL THIS EARLY IN THE MORNING-
Seriously, this is edited FANTASTICALLY. Between Ruby’s flashbacks to all the things that have traumatized her at 1:34 to the black and white fading back to colour as she steadies herself with the lamp, to her crying with Yang at the very ending - even the clips you use to match the singer’s voice is SO GOOD?? I’ve watched this at least three times already, OHMYGOD Silver. This is making me so much more excited for Volume 9 😭💛💛
Wow you hit the nail on the head via ep 7 Vol9. this is super ironic honestly.
TOOK ME THIS LONG to realize we've heard Weiss, Yang, and Blake talk about their feelings. Now tell me when has ruby i'll wait.
VOLUME 9 TOMORROW FINGERS CROSSED
@@silvereyed AY you were right and Ruby and Jaune has about this amount of hope left ( ) Yang, Weiss, and Blake *beanos beatbox starts* I GOT COUNT COUNT COUNT COUNT THESE RACK I MADE TODAY IF YOU TALKING ABOUT THEN GET OUT MY DANG FACE A GOT CASH CASH CASH MEANS MONEY TO MY BAAANK IF YOU AIN'T- I should probably stop now........ oh yea they have this much hope (----------------------------)
- with Jaune in Volume 4
- letter to Yang at the end of Volume 4
- with Oscar in Volume 5
- with Yang in Volume 5
- with Maria in Volume 6
- with Qrow in Volume 7
- with Yang in Volume 8
And all of that before V9. I'm really not a fan of how the fandom memory holes all of these.
@@olserknam I- you-...........you're right but YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
Other comments have already mentioned so many of the great things I was going to praise about this -- the coloring, the chronological organization, even little details like 1:34 -- so I will just add that I cannot understate how perfect these "character study"-style videos of yours are! Style both in the sense of artistic coherence and motivated storytelling. Very well done, thanks for sharing this with us ^-^
Awesome amv, even more relevant now after the most recent episode.
Try now
This it's a lot harder with what's currently going on in volume 9.
Oh man I thought this was made like...in the last few weeks, how thematic
i was so far ahead of the curb my friend that yall were tiny ants on the horizon
so uh, we need another one of these after this volume huh
I gotchu dw my friend
@@silvereyed So uh
@@chaos_blue1089 ruby gets plenty of attention in this channel dont you worry about that i will unpack saturday’s shit eventually 🐭
AAAAAMMMMMMAAAAZZZIIIINNNGGG! Just wow.
I love this song because it basically explains my exact feelings in only 3 minutes
Amazing amv song cover for Ruby ❤😊
This is beautiful everything about it
This was fantastic. Great clips and the song is really fitting. It was true back then and even more so now after everything in v9.
tyyy that means a lot. vol 9 has confirmed and validated a lot of feelings and thoughts i had about ruby, most can be explained from this video. this vol is very cathartic for me and im glad other people are starting to feel the same about ruby as i do
Guys I get the feeling she's not doing so fine
I don't know where you get that idea. Genuinely curious. Everything is absolutely fine. Nothing is wrong at all. Everything is fine.
@@TheRockhound119 That doesn’t help at all lol
@@TheRockhound119 did ruby ghost write this comment
@@silvereyed Well, sort of ya.
Love it, GJ ^^
Always good to see other people still taking proper looks at Ruby. Lately I have been watching video's about mental problems... due to some of my own issues lol... but I watched a couple of videos from a youtuber 'Psych2Go' about signs of 'Deep Loneliness' I couldn't help drawing parallels between the signs they mentioned and some of the quirks I've seen about Ruby since the beginning of the series. Idk if it's right but it may be worth looking into for understanding Ruby a bit more?
Oh thats interesting! I definitely see that for ruby but its like… less loneliness and more being seen and included? Cause her team tends to shut her out when they’re having emotional struggles and i think a part of that is because shes younger so they just naturally wanna shield her but all she wants to do is help. I also have a whole ass rant about how taiyang and yang dont know how to properly emotionally console ruby because they’re all about tough love but ruby needs verbal reassurance that validates her actions and judgement.
Dw i have a full on analysis of ruby and its very sad. Ive been thinking about making a compilation of clips that explains the depth of ruby’s character. Let me know if you’re interested in seeing that actually!
@@silvereyed Idk if you watched RWBY: Ice Queendom yet or not, but the translation on crunchy roll had Weiss saying to Ruby 'I've never seen someone lonelier than myself', it could be a mistranslation.
I like your idea, it makes sense, and I am always up to seeing an analysis of Ruby that isn't some critic writing her off as badly written, childish, boring, gaslighter, etc >.>...
@@silvereyed did I say something wrong?
Edit: I re-watched the scene and I did make a mistake in my understanding, she's still saying she's lonelier but the scene does conclude with Ruby realizing they are both lonely.
@@thatguyinamask9789 no you’re fine! I actually think weiss was referring to herself when she was saying that to ruby, personally. I havent seen ice queendom yet, im waiting for vol 9 to release when i have a first membership to watch it. Just in case there is a mistranslation on crunchy roll that the RT site will probably have accurate translations just bc thats the source.
@@silvereyed well, yes, I agree she referred to herself when she said 'I've never seen someone lonelier than myself before', Ruby proceeds to ask 'Weiss is lonely? I see so you too..' followed by her having a flashback to an image of Summer's grave(that part I am sure of because even if my understanding of Japanese is limited they used normal phrases that I did understand).
Either way sorry for spoiling that for ya ^^
Oops, super topical amv 6 months early.
I have been sitting on the “ruby rose is not fine” curb for so long
Now that we have a volume 9 you should update this video with this song it would be great.
She most definitely is Not doing fine.
Im not doing fine anymore 💔
Nice!
You know, Raven said that she sounds just like Summer. Salem stated that she said something the same thing that her mother said. Then I come to think that soon, someone will be saying the she'll end up just like Summer. I hope I'm wrong
Me too. Its scary to think that in the original red riding hood story, red does end up getting swallowed by the wolf whole.
@@silvereyed soo......the hound.... Is the wolf or the darkness.... I hope nothing bad happens
If both alive silver eyed warriors (ruby and maria) are in the red riding hood story (eith maria as the grandmother) its safe to assume that the wolf is the hound
Ruby....
👍
necesitamos un reaccionando de los amigos de ruby a este amv
❤❤❤❤
Uhhm...
Glad she's better now
This is great but they should remake to show the time ruby tried to kill herself
ruby.... ;-;
Guys i think.
i think after volume 9 episode 7 i dont think shes doin fine tbh.
You know, I really disagree with the idea that Ruby was bottling up her emotions. Even an excerpt from the speech you include in the beginning is one of the many examples of Ruby explicitly talking about her feelings with her friends. Not to mention that I feel it devalues every time she's inspired or reassured anyone if we just assume she's been lying to herself. Ruby is open and sincere. She has occasional doubts, but most of the time, she genuinely believes in herself, rather than just lying to herself/others. In V9, the focus more is on her failing to live up to her perfect image rather than putting on a facade (the problem is resolved by Ruby making peace with herself, rather than learning how to talk about her problems - she's already known the latter).
In a broader sense, I just don't like this idea that Ruby is mentally weaker than everyone else on her team. Like, whenever people talk about WBY it's about their growth and virtues, and for Ruby it's only about how much she suffers. It feels like people admire and respect others, but don't really admire or respect Ruby or see her as a hero, only as a depressed little girl, only as a helpless victim who has too much on her shoulders. It's like... I see Ruby as an admirable hero for her kindness, resolve, openness, and level-headedness. These qualities of hers have been a source of inspiration for me numerous times. But it feels like nobody talks about that. Like nobody is interested in Ruby as a leader or a hero, only as a tragic helpless victim who is perpetually burdened... despite the ending of V9.
Well, you probably won't agree with me. Maybe my disagreement will even make you upset in some way. But... I'm leaving that comment to say I can still appreciate your love for Ruby. It's hard for me to understand how one can see Ruby as a helpless little girl who can't even talk about her emotions AND simultaneously admire her as a strong hero, but going by your channel, I see a lot of admiration and dedication for Ruby, so I can agree with that, at least.
this just sounds like a matter of preference in terms of the types of characters we enjoy. I've never seen ruby as a weak, helpless girl. you could've gathered this viewpoint from the two amvs i made with her as the focus, and they are a little depressing XD. one of my first videos i made of her shows every single strength that she has. (title: I think Ruby Rose is Neat and Here's Why). the problem is not that she's weak and helpless, its that she does not feel as though she's allowed to talk about her feelings around her teammates. and that matter WAS demonstrated in volume 9. the fandom was more focused on ruby acting "mentally weaker" because that was her present state of mind for the longest time. you can see that post vol 9 the fandom has been praising ruby for her strength after it all.
I am a bit confused as to why you don't think ruby was bottling up her emotions, but this could just be a case of me looking at ruby through a "she's my favourite character" lens. comfort characters tend to get far more headcanons thrown at them, so I could be exaggerating it a bit. But come vol 9 we see it was less about that and more so about the fact that ruby was never given a chance to process anything, and she'd been dealing with that up until that point, but vol 9 was her being brought to the brink and shoved over the edge of tolerating that. she was done with being unable to process everything.
Also the speech at the beginning was just between her and oscar, not her team at all. and that was one of the many rare chances she got to do it, and the way she presented it was not as a vent but as a way to inspire her teammate who was struggling. kind of an unfortunate situation for her to vent in my opinion. And, just so you know, ruby rose IS a tragic victim. they all are. but they are in no way helpless. I do not subscribe to that idea or assumption
@@silvereyed Yes, I've seen that video, I have it in my favorites. Ruby has always been my favorite character, but I feel like most people don't appreciate the same things about her that I do and it's pretty sad. One of the key parts of Ruby's character I liked was her openness and honesty. WBY all hid their insecurities behind specific attitudes, but Ruby was a "simple soul", she didn't play these social games and was chill and honest about her emotions and desires, that's part of what makes her a good leader. This is why I don't like the idea that she was keeping everything to herself after Beacon and how widespread this idea is, it makes me feel like a lot of people don't care about this aspect of Ruby and never even noticed it. Not to mention that the idea of Ruby hiding everything puts into question hor genuine her bravery and determination was. This may sound harsh, but it's hard for me to admire someone who lacks any self-respect and is completely servile to others, pretty much acting like some sort of masochistic martyr with deep rooted self-worth issues, since that means they aren't really sure of anything in their life, then how can they lead others? This is what I feel people are trying to paint Ruby as, so naturally I don't like it. I want to admire Ruby and see her as someone who possesses genuine confidence and courage. She doesn't have to be perfect, it's natural to have doubts, but she also doesn't have to be completely broken and lacking any self-esteem.
To expand on this, I feel that the idea that Ruby was secretly depresed and struggling with loss of Beacon for the entirety of V4-9 devalues her scenes of confidence and reflection throughout these seasons. The scene with Oscar is meant to show Ruby's genuine reflection and motivation. Character A revealing what motivates them to help motivate character B in turn as a common trope, usually meant to showcase character A's maturity. But if we assume that Ruby was depressed all along, that devalues the scene in a really cynical way, since apparently her dedication to her friends was not a good motivation that actually worked for her, but just some desperate coping mechanism. The same can be said for other scenes, like Ruby writing a letter to Yang in V4 reflecting on her feelings on things post-Beacon. Or the ending of V6 where Ruby uses the memories of her friends to defeat the Leviathan. All these scenes carried the notion that Ruby reflected on Beacon and got over it, as well as she could have. So it upsets me seeing people either ignore scenes like this or interpret them like they seemingly didn't mean anything inspiring, just because they like the idea of secretly depressed Ruby more.
Regarding V9, I don't think it's about Ruby bottling up trauma from previous seasons. That's not really what the focus is on at the end. The focus at the end is on Ruby learning to accept herself rather than compare herself to the ideal of her mother. The way I (prefer to) see it, Ruby was looking up to her mother for the majority of the show and it was fine as long as she could live up to her idea, she was in a pretty good mindset until the fall of Atlas. After this, in V9, she felt guilty and directionless, which made her not want to talk about it and also made her feel like everything she's done in the past was a failure. It almost seems like a textbook portrayal of an INFP person's Fi-Si loop (you can look that up and see the similarities if you're interested in Myers-Briggs). She wanted to be reborn as an idealized version of herself, until she was able to think clearly and accept herself. Basically, I view this as a temporary conflict and not something that had been happening since V4, and I think the narrative supports this since all Ruby needs to do is make peace with not being her ideal, rather than change anything fundamental about herself.
Overall, I just feel like a lot of people in the fandom are far more interested in treating Ruby as a depressed broken little girl than they are in the notion of her being a capable leader with genuine admirable personality traits, so they hyperfocus on anything that could be perceived as a sign of depression and downplay or ignore any signs of a healthy mature mindset in Ruby because the latter is just not as interesting to them. So it was surprising to see a channel of someone who was seemingly into the depression theory and still found Ruby admirable. I at least hope my post got you to see how this idea can be seen as damaging to Ruby's image and got you to think about some things you may have not considered before.
Agree to disagree my friend! I see your points but I’m not sure you’re understanding fully the complexities of a character arc! Ruby can be struggling and also be open! She has been both. It just depends on where you’re looking at her character arc. I appreciate you being chill and reasonable with this though, there are some crazies out there absolutely shitting on her character for no reason!
