We found out quickly that despite all our mulch and massive overhanging pine tree, our acid loving plants went into a tailspin when we poured a new concrete pathway and driveway. We've applied various supplements, including chelated iron, to gradually address the issue over the last six years. Luckily, the new concrete was nowhere near our blueberries! ~ Sandra
Hi Terry, Don't forget to feed with Doff ericaceous feed (pink bottle), that puts the ericaceous goodness back into the compost. You can get of amazon or your local garden centre.
We were just talking about Blue berries and where we wanted to grow them on the second plot we've taken. The idea for this plot is fruit and flowers. You've given me something to think about. Cheers Terry. Great video
Man I'm struggling to grow blueberries I have about 10 plants in pots and troughs all with ericaceous soil, sulphur pellets but no fruit, a few have taken off but others are slow, any tips?
@Chris-rl9kt sometimes we have to make the plant think it's dieing, no food or water so it reproduces Chris. Try something different on a few to see if it helps.
Our soil is acidic at 4.5, essentially ericaceous, and the blueberries love it. The blackcurrant bush also loves it, we got 4kg of blackcurrants from our one bush this year. We've had it for 6 years and it is still going very strong.
I've just moved a blueberry bush under a Christmas 🎄 tree because I've heard the needles cause the soil to be acidic. Chopped some lower pine tree branches to mulch the blueberry too.
Definitely be trying blueberries next year. Have seeds from shop bought berries, giving it a go first, why not 😅 they're so expensive for an established plant, will be interesting to see what happens. 🌻🌻💚💚🌻🌻
I moved 3 blueberries to pots with acid lovers compost and WOW they are so much happier. Now the big test is over wintering them in the pots with our harsh weather here in the NW burbs of Chicago. If all goes well, I will move others to pots next year.
Your plants are laden with fruit, Terry, they look amazing 👏 Ericaceous soil all the way for us, too. It does make a difference, plus feeding and plenty of water 😊💚🌿
Hi Terry. Definitely ericaceous compost works. I bought some blueberries last year and put them in the ground for overwintering. The root stock did not grow, so they were all put in pots in ericaceous compost. Definitely much better growth and fruited better. LIDL has got some in right now. Elaine🌱.
Well, it certainly looks like the Ericaceous soil and bucket containers are a no brainer. You've given me an idea for the club root bed there Terry. 😜😜😜
I am planning to buy some blueberry bushes this autumn. I think the soil here is ericaceous as rhodedendrons grow very happily in the gardens here and I watering don’t yet have a good watering system, so I thought I might plant them in the ground, what do you think?

@thesmirkinggrape I am glad that I took the plunge and put them in pots, don't like buying compost, but this was worth it.

Got 3 in pots of the right soil sulfur to adjust the acidity. They dropped all their leaves, lol. is it best to keep these in full sun or shade
@MrLaking123 not sure of an answer for that, keeping them well watered is difficult.
They are loaded with fruit 🌝👍
@gardentours I will definitely get my money back eventually and they look so healthy and loaded with fruit.
