Just an overview and review of the Mamiya RZ67 Pro II. I'll go over the operation of the camera as well as why I chose this one eventually over the RB series.
FYI the SD back for the RB67 have the slot for carrying the dark slide same as the Rz67. I love the RB67, the mechanical precision is just awesome. Great videos well though out. Keep em coming.
Nice do you develop everything yourself? All digi here, I use a 5dmkII & 40d which has worked for what I mainly do, weddings, concerts / events, portrait work.
Came here for the RZ, might have to poke around for more photography videos, but shooting and reloading is another hobby of mine (including casting as well)
go to keh and buy their bargain stuff. Get a 120 back, a pro s camera body with waistlevel, and a 90mm sekor c lens. The 'best' lens is determined in relation to the shot. If you're shooting people, a 90mm or 180mm will do. You could go shorter for landscapes. 90 is a good starting length, but 50mm is the most expensive I could find. Get a C lens even though the KL lenses are 'better' and newer. Your kit can range from 300 to over 1000. depends on what you want to shoot. Long live film.
13:57 It is NOT digital-ready. Same as with the RB67, you would need a digital back adapter. The RZ67 Pro IID is the one that is ready for a digital back. And how often does the battery run dry? And how do you keep the battery wet so it doesn't? haha
Since there is no self-timer on this camera, I gather that if I wanted to shoot a self-portrait, I could do so with a cable release, right? I enjoyed the video.
I enjoyed watch the vid. I have several of the Pro II and one of the RZ67 and an RB67 pro s...camera collector I think..I think it will tak the a544 batt.. the 28 batt was avail when the cams were new.
I have a Mamiya M645. Just so you know, you can find those 6v camera batteries for really cheap on amazon. The batteries are basically the same type of battery that dog bark collars use. I got a 10 pack of the 6v batteries for like $10.
As I understand the longest shutter speed in this camera is only 30 seconds in B mode, but you can use T mode on the lenses to make it longer (shutter operates mechanically and remains opened until you fix the lens knob back from T mode to N mode). Am I right? Thanks!
Thanks for the very nice review; you've definitely inspired some gear lust. Do you see any important differences between the different rz67 flavors? (pro, pro II, S?)
Hi, I do have a "stupid" question. Is it normal for the lens blade to stay wide open no matter what aperture value I choose? If I press down the preview aperture lever the blades will move and also the light in finder will be different. Othervise the blades are just staying wide open. I don't have a film loaded and I never had. I just bought thr camera and I'm trying to find if it's an issue with the lens or not. Thanks
A lot of film yes. Mostly 6x7 and 4x5. NO digi backs though, too expensive for a pretty diminished return. I had a friend with a Digi Hasselblad, and I never really dug it.
Thanks for the great vid. Are you still using this camera? How has it held? I'm looking into one now but I'm concerned with the lack of repair shops. Many will work on RB67 bodies and lenses but refuse to work on any RZ67 equipment. Probably due to electronics? Cheers!
it's not that heavy.. i shoot with a RB67 PRO S and i carried it with me on really a lot of mountain trips.. i started a mountain photography project 2 years ago and the RB67 with two lenses and two backs + tripod and acessories came along with me on every single trip.. most of them where 8+hours trips of about 20km on mountain terrain.. if i used it for that i think it will suit well the art of street photography ;-)
If I buy this camera, does anyone fix it if it goes wrong? Because I'm debating between the rb and rz! I'm also confused about the the mirror business, is the RX easier concerning that?
I feel the need to reply to you. This camera will lose over 90 percent of its features if there are no batteries in it. Personally, I hate cameras that need batteries. Reminds me of life support. It can shoot at 1/400th without a battery but that's it. The back is motorized too so get used to needing cheap batteries. It will die once or twice a year and its always when youre about to take shots. I brought it up a mountain and the camera locked up. It was a horrible day. Long live modularity.
A beginner photographer? I don't think any of them are... I'd start with a 35mm SLR. A beginner medium format? Holga probably, or maybe a C330 (did a video on one of those).
Excellent intro that confirms my confidence in this camera. Thanks!

Thanks fur this and the RB vid! DEFINITELY helping me decide which choice to make

Nice, I'm not to into cameras, but these videos are starting to get me interested.
LOVE the review! Pending a certain scholarship, this will be my first medium format camera so I can continue to work on my portraits.

Nice job! I have an RZ 67 Pro, and this answered some questions for me.

Amazing looking camera I don't know anything about cameras but I know they can do great things a picture is worth a thousand words correct?
Best review so far. Thanks!
@shuttersandtriggers wow dude those look incredible is the Hermans a abandoned building??
Thanks for that, I have one but never got the time to use it but I will now.
i though i was the only one who "SHOOTS" everything.. nice channel
Nice, I dont have any film cams but it looks sweet, do you shoot mostly film? Plan on adding a digital back?
Since there is no self-timer on this camera, I gather that if I wanted to shoot a self-portrait, I could do so with a cable release, right? I enjoyed the video.
Yup, killer reflections being bounced from across the street. Was gonna use strobes for this, but ended up not needing them.

Love it! Diggin the camera vids lately :)
So this is the best medium format body for beginners would you say?

I do, yes Color, Chrome, and B&W. I have a Jobo CPA2 and a CPP2 that I use.
Thank you so much for this video. It's been very informative. I'm bidding on one at the moment and look forward to getting stuck in to some MF.
great review!

No, I meant for a first medium format camera, I've shot 35mm a lot before.
Nice video! I have the older i guess RZ, not Pro II, only diff i see is i dont have
fine focus
1/2 stop shutter speeds
RBL setting
Excellent, thank you!
why does everyone forget to talk about the electronic shutter release in front of the camera under the lens.

there is also a 645 back and of course a polaroid back for 3x4 fuji instant film..
Can the camera work without any battery?
Very nice! Thanks!
@shuttersandtriggers youre an artist bro this is true
might as well go with the 6x7 as there is very little difff in price in secondary market.
HELP! I just got the RZ67 pro ii, on all shutter speed it sounds the same. Is this normal?
There's also a 6x6 back and a Polaroid back. :)
How do PM you? Thanks for the review.

is it 10 frames 120 with a 67.. does it come with a 645 back??

I honestly have no idea, never had a need to shoot for that long.
For street photography? I better start doing push ups if I want to use it for that :P
haha

Id say a nice way to start with MF is a Mamiya 645.
what is?
I wish they were still $600
Will work without batt but only at 1/400th
Very true, you should check out my website, the two front page images came out of this camera. theaaronshapiro (dot) com
It was bargain, I always buy bargain.
