I am an officer of the Philippine Army, a true blooded Filipino soldier and a proud Scout Ranger with 31 years in the service and still counting. I practically fought in all fronts of conflict that plagued my country. I fought for years against the communists, the radical muslim groups, foreign terrorists groups, etc whom i consider also as my Filipino brothers whom i should say have taken the wrong path. I have seen a lot of my soldiers die as well as our "enemies". This warrior spirit you are referrimg to is the natural blood that flows in our veins. The character and the heart of a warrior is developed among us by our parents since childhood. Our family ties are closely-knitted. We are God-fearing and we pray a lot. Our military training is the toughest in the world. We are taught the skills well by our trainors and they build in us the determination & courage to become the finest soldiers. We are highly dependent to work as a team with the highest regard on discipline. All of this made us such and maybe the reasons i am still alive until tiday

My grandfather was a World War II Veteran. He told me that during the Bataan Death March, a lot of Filipino soldiers died and a lot of locals saved American soldiers during their flight to the concentration camps by snatching them by the roadside and hiding them from JaPananese patrols. We value camaraderie so much that when we involve ourselves in a fight with our allies, we will die protecting them rather than us.. It's a trait that we are very proud of. Too bad, allies doesn't share the same ideology but still, "no hard feeling sod us " .. We're still brothers from another mother, after all..

Thanks for featuring our beloved soldiers. As a former soldier, i fully agree about the "iron sight" thing. We were trained to shoot targets as far as 250 meters and up with bare iron sights. We were not be able to graduate in training without getting satisfactory grades in marksmanship. And that's one thing we really are proud of.

I have been to the Philippines 30+plus times and traveled all over
I have met many soldiers both serving and retired and listened to their stories
I think one thing that sets them apart... is life is hard for most Pinoy at any time and civilian or military but they make the most of it and are generally very happy people who will share with others when they are in need ,
So the Pinoy soldiers are already used to living a hard life without 'luxuries 'while growing up then when they join the military they can do without many things compared to 'pampered' western soldiers because they are already accustomed to living that way and sharing with their brothers out in the field
mahal na mahal Pilipinas ingat/amping to all the pinoy out there :) (its more fun in the Philippines ) :):):)keep on smiling YOLO!

I had a talk with one of the filipino soldier who fought in Yutong. He said that when the chinese started their spring offensive, the UN gave the order for a general retreat the Turkish and Puerto Ricans received the order but initially held their ground but later retreated leaving the Filipinos to fight and did not retreat because they did not received order to retreat otherwise they would have also retreated. Secondly, the Filipino soldiers after the second world war were battle hardened and experienced during their stint as guerillas and their fight against the communist in central and southern Luzon

Now about the winter part, they adapted and improvised. Using canvass meant to be their tent as blankets, they slept side by side. When without a compass and caught in choosing which way to go in an intersection, they would roll out a bottle of beer and follow where it would lead. A trait that a lot of Filipinos share. During the Battle of Yultong it was winter time and the Filipino soldiers didn't have winter clothes as we never experienced winter here yet they persisted and won. There were 6 more times that they won there in Korea. Filipinos are survivalists.
And remember that was it in Syria where that Indian general who was the overall commander told them to surrender and they kept their ground, went out of the area without the enemies knowing.

Way back in 2004 even Gen. Iqbal Singh Singha a UN General who commanded the Filipino soldiers in Syria to lay down their arms and surrender to the ISIS because they're already outnumbered and surrounded yet, can't stop the Filipino soldiers. Yes, Sir, that was in Syria. The soldiers were part of UN peacekeeping Corps. The Indian field commandeer wanted them to surrender to militants as what the other two countries did. No need to mention. They talked and discussed the situation. If they surrender they're not only bringing their name but also the Philippines. They know it would be a very tremendous stress for the country and too much pressure to the government for the possible hostage crisis. So the soldiers directly reported to their Philippines commander and they were advised for possible route of escape to the border bringing along their arms and ammunitions and the tanks assigned to them, I think. After the last communication, they need to put off their phones to avoid detection, and they're on their own escaping in the safety of darkness. They were considered to conduct unbecoming of an officer, but they were received by a hero's welcome from the Philippines government.

  • @vincentferrer3770
    @vincentferrer3770 2 года назад +15

I think another best example of this is our military unit assigned as a peacekeeping force in Golan Heights. They were ordered to leave and abandoned their position (ordered by some indian general i think), but they disobeyed the order. Their willing (and die) to hold on that patch of land that was assigned to them. But in the end, they were allowed safe passage by rebels in the area. And was formally relieved by the Philippine goverment.

I think that attitude is the nature of every Filipino po. and maybe one of the reason why most of us adopt that traits is because we've grow up noticing and experiencing it first hand. before the school teach us lessons, good moral, and how to respect and treat the people around us, we've been thought and learn it already by our parents and also by the people of every neighborhoods.
also po The battle of Yultong is not in the PH po, it is in the south korea po. the reason why some Filipino troops were their is because south korea need a reinforcement because they are badly beaten by the chinese and north korean troops. even though the Filipino troops do not have a proper garments to keep themselves warm they still fight like its their own country. thank you po.

Before I served in the US Army, back in the Philippines during high school in the early 90s we actually must serve or performed Civilian Army Training or CAT in high school. It started during freshman years since it was a catholic school with simple physical training and basic army communication such as hand signals.

Our CAT officers made us do 50 to 100 pushups everytime one if us blundered. Our platoon trained to do more than 100 and able to do 200 plus pushups without a cinch.

Wouldn't be surprised about how other soldiers in PH act. My father's side: his father, and some of his relatives (men/women) serves our country in Military Police. I think it started because of my Great Grandfather during the death March (he's just a child that time), and I think my father's side is being more reflective to it, and that also influenced me to also want to hold a gun, and know how and when to fight for my country.

the filipino soldier can fight whether it is raining or having a storm. he is accustomed to barefoot even in the mud bathing in the rain and soaking in the sun. they know what to do. that's why I'm in favor of Filipino soldiers compared to other countries the Filipino soldiers are brave but they are kind heart and humane to others. because family first loves family.proud to be🇵🇭

Back in 2004, I spent time interviewing Filipino Korean War veterans at the PEFTOK office at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. In the Battle of Yuldong, 10th BCT was down to a little more than 900 officers and men because of frostbites. 15 died, 26 WIA and 14 MIA. The estimate of Chinese Communist dead was 7,500 dead. They made the corpses mounds as cover from enemy fire. Although in 5 years, of the 5 battalion combat teams (BCT"s) which numbered 7,420 officers and men, only 112 were KIA, 299 WIA and, in the final tally, 16 MIA. BUT ALL OF THEM SUFFERED PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) AS THEY MOURNED THE INNUMERABLE DEAD COMMUNISTS AND KOREAN CIVILIANS!!!

After them, its our turn. Using only M16A1/A2 no scope only iron site. When the USMC check our target they were totally amaze. We hit our target in the middle of the board.

Their is one Filipino characteristic that is not mentioned, Filipinos are good strategist, we love solving problems especially in tight situations, we call that diskarte. Filipino engineers and soldiers are good at this.
Philippine Scout Rangers or Musang is one of Philippine Army elite warriors, in order to get your Musang badge and become a true Musang the last test is for you to be assigned or stationed at war zone areas in the country for a period of time, survive that mission and go back and graduate.
