@@EntertainMeTV it more had to do with its life length, the system had insane longevity which is a testament to its quality as a system. dont get me wrong the dvd player helped sales of course but the ps2 was still selling and being developed way past the point of available cheaper dvd players. the system is just unmatched pound for pound all around compared to any other system ever.

Damn, I love PS1/PS2 era games. Developers released finished products, unlockables can be unlock by playing games or using cheat cods, developers didn't afraid to take risks and be creative, no preorder locked content.

The 5th and 6th generation are pretty much the golden standard for how video games should be made...Unlike the 8th generation and beyond.
There are some other must have M-rated games on the PS2 like Darkwatch, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks, The Suffering games, PSi-Ops, Urban Chaos riot response, Cold Winter...

Absolutely LOVE Manhunt, it seems to be making a small comeback in recent years too which makes me happy. Still loads of fun today.

Black is super underrated for no reason. It's on game pass, it's on PC, if you got a PS2 it's very inexpensive. Go play the damn game. It's worth every minute. (Except for the bridge level at the end with 0 checkpoints.
For me, probably Persona 4. Likely among my favorite games of all time

I still can't believe the lack of love Shadow of Rome got; no sequel, no remake...such an incredible game is damn near forgotten to time! I know the devs went on to make Dead Rising

It is actually the basis for the engine of Dead Rising. Dead Rising replaced Shadow of Rome, sort of like Yakuza and Shenmue.

The Warriors is my favorite video game based on a movie.
Surprised this list doesn't have The punisher, The Suffering, The thing , Killer 7 and Tenchu wrath of heaven . Good list nonetheless.
I would have added Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven, Cold Winter and NARC.

It's so weird how the early 2000s had movie tie-in games of movies that were, at that point, over 20 years old.
It's like if someone made a game based on the first National Treasure movie or The Departed for the PS5.
Scarface: The World is Yours was so fantastic. Manhunt blew my mind back in the day as well. In my opinion MGS3: Snake Eater is the best game ever made! I've always wanted to play Cold Fear but have never gotten my hands on a copy. Great video, my friend! There are so many great games on the PS2!

All of us who love underrated video games gave you immediate applause when you opened the video with none other than Shadow of Rome lol God bless that game. Its ambience is some of my absolute favorite in games. I think a video on games with relaxing ambience would be interesting, come to think of it. The Sims 2 is a good contender for that list, for example. Thanks for the enjoyable video!
An interesting thing about "Scarface" is that it doesn't follow the events of the film - that would have been easy, rather it starts where the film ends only Tony survives the attack.
PS2 had so many great games. PS3 and beyond can't hold a candle to it.
Scarface has one the best combat systems in open world games of it's time, and it still holds up very well - to be honest it's combat is better than any gta game (although i love gta series much more)

Funny, I just picked up a copy from my local retro game store a few months back and I’m actually getting ready to play it.
@@thatvideogamesshow , or a sequel. Honestly, I would love it if it got a movie because, in the right hands, it could be every bit as epic as Spartacus, The Robe, or Gladiator.
Honestly by some miracle this get remade, I think there is an option to separate Agrippa and Octavius storyline kinda like Live a live style. Pretty sure people who stopped playing this just hated the Octavius stealth gameplay.
I liked Octavius gameplay but having action packed then thrown to a stealth game just feels weird
2 players on warriors was great

Ive played Manhunt but dont have it anymore, but well worth the play. But i still have Silent Hill 2.

MGS 2 had a stamina bar also, an example being when Snake/Raiden hangs from a rail
Not exclusive, but the TimeSplitters games are amazing, especially the third one: Future Perfect.
God of War 2 was pretty fun. I only played a little bit of it but I love me a good action game. I've only played a demo of MGS3 but I've seen videos on it and I respect the game and series as a whole. Silent Hill 2 I have a copy of, which I somehow got because a friend in university just randomly gave me his copy on the last day of our freshman year lol! A couple years later we started talking more and he asked if I knew what happened to his copy and I told him he gave it to me and he was all "Oh, okay, well I bought another one" lol! I am glad though that he didn't ask it back because I've seen the prices for the game go up pretty high in recent years.
look at those graphics for "Black" it almost looks ps3/xbox 360 quality. the ps2 really was the best system of all time imo and its not even close. best game library ever as well.
I have to say apart from one game, this list also shows how good games could look on ps2
This guy here is using PCSX2 emulator not the PS2 😒, but in PS2 they look way better with original colour palette, video filter and lights effects
@@mandibiedermann2246 i know, i own ps2 and play it often using crt tv. And on the intended hardware, using CRT they look awesome.
As someone who just dusted off my ps2 the other day for some nostalgia, i actually played silent hill 2 the other day and it still holds up. A few other favourites of mine are Freedom Fighters 2003, Spartan Total Warrior 2005 and The Lord of The Rings Trilogy. I liked the video by the way 🙂

I miss the ps2 what happened to us guys ? Look at us we are old , the only thing ps2 is missing is trophies other than that its a fantastic console

have a love/hate with the Scarface game. Tony in the game wasn't like the movie. He was more like a puppet that you pull the string on and he spews out one liners. They didn't capture his complexities at all.
Aside from that, though, it's hella fun and a great soundtrack. Just kinda a bad Tony

Cold fear is better than RE4 to me. And black looks so good.
Not usually a fan of FPS games personally (outside of deathmatches), but Black is pretty damn class honestly.
Really need to play Cold Fear one day, looks like quite the unique experience.

Just a note for MGS3, please play the Subsistence version, it gets rid of the fixed camera, which can be horrible because enemies have a realistic "cone" of vision now, and it would be easier if you used a third person camera

As much as 2 was a step up in a lot of fields, I still vastly prefer manhunt 1 to 2. Yeah 2 is disturbing, but I feel that on some points it ends up going too far into 'playable slasher film' and rebuilds that wall of 'its just ficction' that manhunt 1 broke.
Plus it doesn't have the same "charm" (if you can call that disturbing feel that) of the warriors-esque gangs of manhunt 1 or the settings it goes.
Vice city stories is underrated imo capturing territories was a ton of fun. Kinda like Farcry 3 system but that's more modern.
Love SMT/Persona. So glad I got into that series and got the ps2 versions

Smackdown wrestling games too haven'te ever come close to being as fun as PS2 era.
Nocturne was so good at release, i dont really enjoy games anymore. Smt iv was great, probably better, but Nocturne really scratched that itch for me in a profound way.

Wow! You mentioned Black, which is one of, if not my favorite, FPS. Just for that,you get a like.
Really, though, Black gets no love, and I don't know why. I mean, it's an FPS, and it does what it says it will do: you shoot your enemies, in first person view.
No "find a blue key card" crap, or that jumping around like a moron, BS, (cough, cough!, Doom!, Halo!, cough, cough!). It's just pure wholesome unload your mag into a target, fun, and I love that.

Shadow of Rome is so obviously a prototype for Dead Rising, which was the next game capcom made. The skeleton is there.

Shadow of Rome is one of my most favorite PS2 games of all time along with Onimusha and MGS. Its a shame how underrated that game is. I think it puta people off when they get to Octavius story.
If by miracle this gets remade, they can either separate Agrippa and Octavius storyline or give the option skip it and reward them if they finish the game wothout skipling it. Even as a fan of stealth games, Octavius stealth missions are damn hard.

In this day and age.... the only easiest way to play Scarface is probably using PS2 emulator as the PC version is basically none working in modern PC due to graphic cards issues without tinkering with your PC to play it

Really bruh no Mortal Kombat? I mean even if the 3D era of MK is kinda sucks, we have MK Shaolin Monks, which is one of the best M-Rated action beat-em-up game ever. This one MUST HAVE M-Rated game for PS2
Ok, so Manhunt needs a direct sequel. Not the Fight Club-lite plot point from 2 but a continuation of the first games plot, going into what happened to the production company making the films. I feel like Manhunt could be considered a reverse horror game, where you are a slasher killing people that can fight back so maybe play up that angle🤷
And soon we will have the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection
mind explaining why omitting the 2nd protagonist playstyle for Shadow of Rome? The game did feature 2 protagonist with 2 different playstyle. I understand the topic being M rated, but 2nd protagonist still should be included as well.
