Your analysis is solid, and just reading the line of 2.5 here on Wednesday, Vegas is begging you to take BYU despite the disparity in the records. The line speaks volumes. KU.
@pff 4 things, 1) BYU’s wake up call/trap game was OkState. 2) the Holy War is always like that! If Utah played the other teams the way they played against BYU, they’d be way better than 4-5. 3) Kansas is a revenge game from last year! I expect BYU to play like they did against UCF. 4 BYU = Team of Destiny!
Kansas’ 5 of their 6 losses were by 6 points or less. Their biggest loss was by 11 to TCU. They can EASILY be 8-1 or even 9-0. They DESERVE not to be slept on. Bunch of bad breaks this season, and that happens 🤷♂️
Yeah no one is sleeping on Kansas but if I really doubt the Cougs just up and forgot what Kansas did to them on the road last year. It’s time to return the favor.
Agreed with your analysis, Kansas is fearsome despite a losing record but you may underestimating the fans in a night game at Lavell Edwards Stadium...
I feel like you’re underestimating the BYU defense. They’ve been exceptional this season, especially against teams like Kansas that do a less-than-stellar job of protecting the ball. This defense could be an Achilles heel for Kansas. Additionally, they’ll be at home after a huge victory against a rival, looking to hit a milestone victory after setting a record for the highest CFP rating ever for the school. You can’t discount what the atmosphere is going to do for them.
@kylekey2444 “teams like Kansas that do a less-than-stellar job of protecting the ball.” You might be confusing the team that started the season with lots of interceptions and the team since the midpoint. Very few TOs in the second half of the season.
BYU's coaches are well aware of the danger of this Kansas team. Especially after their last win against Iowa. They are spending hundreds of hours going over every game Kansas has played this season. Kansas is facing some cold, nasty weather and elevation. Not sure if they have played that much in this type of environment. BYU is used to playing and practicing in these conditions. Run the ball, blitz the quarterback, show different defenses to confuse their quarterback to stop the run, and no turnovers. Like the Utah game, there's no doubt this will be another war in the trenches.
Great point boys. Exactly right, “a good team with a bad record”. “Never, I repeat NEVER underestimate your opponent.” Second remember “don’t ever feed the dog.” In this what I am saying is always disarm your opponent with compliments, by not saying anything if you can’t, or by misdirecting interviews. A great way to look at this is by answering with “Well, I am looking to work on…… or we are really trying to focus on staying healthy by……” just take a question and misdirect to another topic that will not allow that opponent to feed off of to build up a revenge or attitude. Look at any great competitor in sports and they will tell you that they would look for anything that an opponent had said to get their teammates fired up.
I’ll be at the game. I have not been to that stadium in over 20 years. I’ll be bringing my A game from the stands and I think BYU puts together a complete game. I think it is a good game but I’ll take BYU 31 Kansas 20.
Watching their big pass plays against ISU they had like 3 or 4 seconds of a clean pocket. I can promise you that BYU is not going to let them have that much time to throw.
Okay so I agree for the most part. I think Kansas is a very dangerous opponent. I think that they are better than 3-6. I very much think that they can beat BYU. If they did I wouldn't be surprised at all. All of that being said I would still pick BYU in this game. I think a little bit too much is being made of Kansas turnovers here. In the Arizona St game Kansas didn't turn it over once and still lost. In the TCU game it was actually TCU who turned over three times and still beat Kansas by 11. The only two teams to hold BYU under 30 all year are Utah and SMU who both have top tier defenses. Both games were on the road as well. Kansas has struggled on D. This game is AT BYU. At night, at elevation, in the cold. And the BYU defense isn't a pushover. I definitely think Kansas scores points. But gimme BYU as my pick. BYU 35 Kansas 31
The three best running quarterback we faced were SMU, KSstate, and Arizona. They scored a combined 1 touchdown. We have absolutely not struggled against running QBs
BYU's run game will decide the game under the frigid conditions this Saturday night. There was some big runs against Utah that were overlooked with all the drama and distractions. I am expecting BYU to control the clock and put pressure on Kansas' offense. BYU's defense has consistently created 2+ turnovers a game and I expect there will be at least 3 especially with a very loud LES at night.
As much as I want the Y to continue winning, they aren't playing the best they can, partly because of the game plan. Last week it looked like they went conservative, granted the U's defense was great, blitzing Jake, and the Oline couldn't handle the pressure. A-Rod needs to be creative in all quarters of play. I'm pretty sure the remaining teams will realize how Utah put pressure on Jake and implement into their defensive schemes. The Y can do it. I am impressed how good the Y is doing this year, especially after last years performance. Take it all the way Cougs, you can do it.
I'm a BYU fan class of '83 We never talk or think caulky. We always approach each game like the under-dog. We have the greatest respect for our opponents especially teams like Kansas. We are grateful that we got 6 wins! To go undeafted after nine games so far is a thrill and a shock to us. Personally, I can appreciate that the media is having a hard time taking us seriously since even advid fans of BYU can barely believe it. So, no begging for more respect from me. If we can repeat this over the coming years then we can earn the respect we used to have during the LaVell Edward years in the Mountain West Conf. Go BYU!
Pretty good analysis! The only thing I’d disagree on is that BYU actually has the better CB core than Kansas. Mello Dotson and Cobee Bryant are bigger names for sure, and while Jakob Robinson has some minor NFL buzz, Marque Collins, Evan Johnson, and Mory Bamba don’t and yet all four have been excellent this year. Teams have stopped even throwing at Jakob Robinson the past few weeks, and Collins allowed 1 catch vs Utah while making 4 PDs and a TFL. Not saying Bryant and Dotson aren’t good, they are, but it’s more likely that Roberts and Lassiter collectively get the better of Dotson and Bryant than Grimm and Skinner get the better of Robinson and Collins.
BYU knows this could be a trap, and they will be ready for it. I think Kansas comes in and really struggles. BYU 40 Kansas 13. At least one BYU touchdown is scored by the defense or special teams.
Even with BYU’s focus increasing week over week, they could still be in for a surprise. They will lose at some point. But the odds of Kansas scoring 37 points on this defense is pretty low in a late, cold one at LES. More likely that BYU grinds it out, controlling the clock with Martin and Ropati. (Though fans are starting to call for the 2 minute drill the whole game!)
As a BYU fan, this is the one we drop. If we win, Arizona State is the one we drop. If we win, Houston is the one we drop. If we win, the BIG XII championship is the one we drop. If we win, the CFP Quarterfinals is the one we drop. If we win, the CFP Semifinals is the one we drop. If we win, the CFP Championship is the one we drop. If we win, then we probably lost to Kansas. The next game is always the one we are going to lose, eventually it will happen.
I think BYU comes into this game with laser focus. The only game we showed up to overconfident was OSU, and that was our wake-up call. In home games this year, the trend I've seen is that the stadium is LOUD, the visiting team offense starts getting a bit jumpy especially in high pressure situations, and when the BYU defense starts to build up a head of steam, thing get crazy, turnovers start happening, and the momentum just gets away from visitors. I hope that's what we see again tomorrow. Gonna be a great game either way. Kansas is looking more dangerous after that win against ISU than they have all season, and it will be a big deal if we manage to beat them.
As a BYU fan this game would worry me a lot more if it was on the road. I think the team realizes they scraped by last week and will come out playing better at home. It'll be interesting to see how Kansas plays in one of the loudest environments. Should be a fun game.
First, consider conditions... LES will be sold out and raucous, despite it being about 32° at kickoff, well after dark, on Saturday night. How well acclimated to the massive stadium, temps, and altitude will KU be? Add the additional hour of time change for a late kickoff. Now consider motivation... BYU plays at home, coming off a hugely emotional win last week (possible let down this week), also playing to get payback for the humiliating defeat at KU last year, also playing to keep the dream season alive; KU is playing for the possibility of knocking off BYU, and for the possibility of making some low-tier bowl game (maybe, if they win out...). Which team benefits more from all of these factors before play even begins? Yeah, BYU. All of them. Rosters show comparative strengths and weaknesses in both teams. I believe this one will come down to turnovers (including botched 4th downs) on a cold, possibly soggy night. The team with fewer of them wins.
Physical factors strongly favored the cougars but everyone seems to rise up to try and knock off the undefeated team. The remaining schedule will be a dogfight every week. I fear it will be a close one
BYU team Pass Efficiency Defense is #3 nationally. Kansas is #85. What was that you said about Roberts and Lassiter vs Kansas corners Dodan and Bryant? 🤔🤦 In total team defense, BYU is #28 and Kansas is #81. BYU is at LES (home) at night, at altitude, in the cold, and Cougars are 30-3 in night games over the past three seasons. Are you sure you want to take Kansas. Don't get me wrong, the Jayhawks can win this game. But it seems as if Kansas probably has a nuch more difficult battle ahead than either of you realize.
I was most worried about the Utah game last week. The uninitiated have no idea the intensity of the Holy War...records do not matter. I am now super worried here. With that said our defense is pretty good this year.
one problem i have with this everyone was talking about k states run game and look what happened also its at les which is known for making life difficult for opposing teams offenses sure we need to take every game seriously, but we take every game one game at a time that's why we're 9-0 plus we are getting starter conner pay back from injury so that's more protection
Still no respect for BYU. They aren't mentioning the LES factor. BYU has already beat two teams that are better than Kansas in KSU and SMU. Good teams don't turn the ball over often. You can't isolate a glaring weakness and say, "Oh, they're a really good team except they turn the ball over, or except the can't score in the red zone." That being said, no one on the Cougar side is taking Kansas for granted.
I think you guys are right to say this could be a trap game, but I disagree with the main points in the analysis. The only reason I'm scared as a BYU fan is their run game with neal and daniels. If we can shut that down it will be a complete blowout.
“Analytics show Kansas turns the ball over a lot and BYU generates lots of turnovers. But a night game in Provo… I’m gonna go with my gut…” People like this are how I have financed some much needed home repairs this year. (Yes, I pay tithing on my winnings.)
@ Looking through Kansas’s stats, it does look like KU has curbed their turnovers significantly. But the stats for BYU are consistent. They have at least two turnovers in every game against P4 opposition. And a night game in Lavell’s house puts extra pressure on Kansas to keep their earlier tendencies from surfacing. If they do, it will be a real scary game for the Cougars. But since BYU has been so consistent with it, I really like the odds.
You all are underselling BYU’s defense, especially at home with the crowd propping up the defense. Also, KU’s defense against the run is BAD. BYU will run all over KU and limiting KU’s offensive possessions.
Kansas won last years game 35'-28, at Kansas. Their playing at Provo, late night game I see a payback game lik÷ the Kansas St. Game. Byu plays its best ball at home!
Home field advantage is going to be huge. The crowd will force multiple penalties and at least 1 turnover. Plus it's going to be cold and at elevation w/ a 10pm kick-off.
@@John-ne4fq I hope they don't, but KU has a good offense and if they take care of the ball, it could get ugly. On the other hand, BYU could boat race them if they pull a Kansas State. I personally have BYU in this one. J Hill has been very good at preparing his team and making adjustments.
@John-ne4fq why would byu get blown out? Because KU has the ability to turnover byu - see multiple D scores last year. KU has the ability to run a control the game (and crowd) while opening things up for 4 WRs. I’m not predicting it happens, but that would be the recipe, and is at least plausible.
@@johnlee7085 it’s much more likely that ku pulls out a close win than byu getting blown out… they have been really good at limiting explosive plays all year. It just makes no sense to predict that
I think BYU has a better chance beating 7-2 ASU on an away game than Kansas at home. What sucks is playing 3-6 Kansas is a lose lose situation because most people just see their record, and think BYU should blow them out by 30.
You’re a clown, BYU has a better chance beating Kansas at night in Provo then ASU in Arizona. This is a revenge match at BYU this time. BYU had a 2nd string center vs Utah and was still able to clutch the win. (BYU always struggles vs Utah) Kansas Offense throws the game vs BYU defense
@@luafanaea Kansas offense has been playing extremely well as of late. They're 3-6 but have outscored their opponents by 52 points this season. Daniels first 5 games he averaged 182 ypg with 7 TDs and 8 Ints. His last 4 games, he's averaging 304 ypg with 12 TDs to only 1 Int. They're playing good ball right now whether you like it or not. There's a reason these guys were ranked #19 early in the season.
@ they said the same thing every week and BYU has beat the odds. BYU was under dogs every game except Utah & now Kansas. By Stats SMU, Kansas St & Oklahoma St should have beat BYU. So save all those stats for the kids at the end of their season not during 🤦🏽♂️
It’s going to be hard to refocus and get up for a Kansas game after that epic Holy War. Having the starting center back for BYU will help. But BYU has struggled with option QBs and strong running backs. I fear BYU will lose this one as well unfortunately.
Hard to get up for Kansas? You're acting like the players are taking any game lighter this season, they're gonna come out playing every game like it's the Super Bowl. They know they have to win out to to guarantee the CFP
PFF has underestimated BYU and Jake Retzlaff throughout the season. I think they are underestimating them again this week. Kansas will be tough, but BYU plays great at night, home at LES, and in revenge games from the previous season.
Do you think BYU will keep up this magical run?

Kansas won last years game 35'-28, at Kansas. Their playing at Provo, late night game I see a payback game lik÷ the Kansas St. Game. Byu plays its best ball at home!
Home field advantage is going to be huge. The crowd will force multiple penalties and at least 1 turnover. Plus it's going to be cold and at elevation w/ a 10pm kick-off.
Gonna be an electric environment
@@PFFCFB Yes, and KU is gonna get shocked.⚡
It’s not a 10 pm kickoff, even on KU time.
-- BYU might win Saturday night but they will win any thing on the payoffs --
Feels like a blow out one way or the other, depending on how many turnovers KU has.
why would byu get blown out
dumb comment
@@John-ne4fq I hope they don't, but KU has a good offense and if they take care of the ball, it could get ugly. On the other hand, BYU could boat race them if they pull a Kansas State. I personally have BYU in this one. J Hill has been very good at preparing his team and making adjustments.
@John-ne4fq
why would byu get blown out?
(BYU always struggles vs Utah)
Kansas Offense throws the game vs BYU defense
@@luafanaea Kansas offense has been playing extremely well as of late. They're 3-6 but have outscored their opponents by 52 points this season. Daniels first 5 games he averaged 182 ypg with 7 TDs and 8 Ints. His last 4 games, he's averaging 304 ypg with 12 TDs to only 1 Int. They're playing good ball right now whether you like it or not. There's a reason these guys were ranked #19 early in the season.
@@jeoffbenzos4959 all those stats mean nothing against BYU.
@@luafanaea And Kansas record also
means nothing
@ they said the same thing every week and BYU has beat the odds. BYU was under dogs every game except Utah & now Kansas.
By Stats SMU, Kansas St & Oklahoma St should have beat BYU.
So save all those stats for the kids at the end of their season not during 🤦🏽♂️
Upset alert
Guy on the left clearly doesn’t like BYU. Some fair takes but he seems biased.
Kansas is not putting that much points up! Defense wins games and BYU has the defense
Cougars will take it to Kansas. Watch out!!
There’s no way BYU is loosing at LES at night
It’s happened before right?
10% way?
That massive disrespect to BYU continues 😂😂😂 Kansas is 3-6 !!! 3-6 for a reason. …BYU wins by 17
Keep disrespecting kansas fruity boy
It’s going to be hard to refocus and get up for a Kansas game after that epic Holy War. Having the starting center back for BYU will help. But BYU has struggled with option QBs and strong running backs. I fear BYU will lose this one as well unfortunately.
Hard to get up for Kansas? You're acting like the players are taking any game lighter this season, they're gonna come out playing every game like it's the Super Bowl. They know they have to win out to to guarantee the CFP
Confidence is key!!! Gotta believe
@ I like the optimism! I hope they win!
Your record is who you are. Kansas is a bad team because they have a bad record. Losers find ways to lose. Winners find ways to win.
PFF has underestimated BYU and Jake Retzlaff throughout the season. I think they are underestimating them again this week. Kansas will be tough, but BYU plays great at night, home at LES, and in revenge games from the previous season.
This might be a trap game for BYU coming one week after the emotional win over Utah
A trap game like every other game this season?
Kansas spoiler
BYU will try to play ball control so that Daniels has less opportunities to score.
I’m a byu fan and I too think KU will upset us this week. Hopefully it’s the only loss until the big 12 matchup
Hey man you gotta believe! This is the dream team
BYU is going to lose this one.
Live MAs Dalton!!
Isn’t every QB have a hard time when blitzed?
Some QBs thrive when blitzed.
Cheaters never win. Go Utes
Ahhh, so sweet, we're still in your head😂
