What are some other rides that ALMOST happened you can remember?
Happened part time but DW almost landed a full time ride at DEI
Richard Petty driving the Hendricks 5 sponsored by STP but the deal fell through and we got the Bodine deal
Ginn racing was trying to get dale earnhardt jr in 2007
"Seeing Dale in a Ford"...Earnhardt was in a Ford for two full seasons(1982-1983) driving number 15 for Bud Moore.
This is what I came in here to say
..lol Earnhardt fans seem to forget this.
Joey Logano was offered a ride by Ganassi and Roush in 2004 when he was 15 but ultimately ended up going with JGR
Kinda crazy that the iconic #24 car was a test car for HMS
Here’s some that I think is interesting
Montoya and Newman were offered the 78 before Truex
Joey Logano to MWR in 2013
Kasey Kahne to SHR in 2019
Kevin Harvick to Red Bull
Bobby Labonte to the 07 in 2009 I believe
Jeff Burton was considered to replace Dale Sr in the 3 after he retired
I think Chip Ganassi gave Gordon an offer but he signed a lifetime contract with HMS
Not to mention Rusty Wallace was almost the driver of the 07 in 2006
Bobby Labonte would've most likely went to the 33 because the rumor was tied to the Cheerios sponsorship that was moving from Petty to RCR.
the issue with Gordon was Jeffs stepdad wanted to be able to trademark the number for merchandise and at the time the movie studio still held the trademark. also the 46 dupont car was to have run at Talidega in 2nd race of 93 with Buddy Baker driving.
Owners can’t even own a number technically and if they don’t use it for a certain amount of years anyone can use it but usually they don’t out of courtesy. So how can paramount own the trademark or copyright of a number? Nobody can own a number just like there is no copyright or trademark to a song title 🤔 I’m not buying into the idea that a movie company can trademark a number so apparently they wanted to use the exact same font as the car that Greg sacks drove in the movie? Because you can trademark a font but not the number
Dale Jr was also originally going to drive the 81 for Hendrick considering it was a car for his former team (chance 2 motorsports).
Hendrick actually did make another attempt with the 46 at Dega in 93' with Buddy Baker in the seat but was a DNQ
I think the reason why Junior wanted to race in the 51 was to pay homage to his father's birth year since he was born in April of 1951. So it might have some Earnhardt connection to it.
Also Neil Bonnett
For the record Sr drove a Ford for Bud Moore in 1983. Here's a second one, HMS was founded as All-Star Racing in 1984. It just so happened that the sports biggest name was coming on the market due to the collapse of his team. Richard Petty was set to take his number and sponsor STP to the team that would turn into HMS. At the last second STP nixed the deal due to lack of faith in Hendrick as it turned out it was almost justifiable as ASR was one race race from shutting down when they won a race at Martinsville and the rest is history.
When Bobby Labonte left Joe Gibbs Racing in '05, he had an offer from Ganassi, but ultimately decided to drive the 43 for Petty.
Dale Sr drove a Ford for 2 of his wins in the 80s for Bud Moore. But he didn’t do very well outside of those two wins.
He would have done way better in the 28 though
Ricky Rudd was Robert Yates first choice for the 28 car after Davey died for the 94 season but Rudd had already setup his own team and couldn’t do it.
Mark Martin and the Yates 28. Marks Contract in 94 was coming to a close, and Irvin was in that Michigan accident. So Yates Reached out to Mark Martin about the ride, and Mark almost took it. He chose to stay loyal to Jack Roush though and the rest is history.
Mark was also offered the #28 ride in the winter of 1981 for the following 1982 season. Mark ran five races in 1981 and won a couple poles and had a couple top 10's and Waddell Wilson called Mark and offered the #28 ride and Mark turned it down driving for Harry Ranier thinking he would be fine after his first 5 races went so well. They put Benny Parsons in the car instead
Richard Petty was supposed to drive for Rick Hendrick but the deal fell apart late and the King went to drive for Mike Curb instead
I remember there was a rendering of Dale Earnhardt going to Junior Johnson before rejoining Childress back in 1984
Yes that happened
The Jamie McMurray/Kurt Busch debacle goes even more full circle because who replaced Kurt at Chip Ganassi Racing?
Greg Biffle had another option to drive for Michael Waltrip Racing
I remember there were rumors of Stewart going to Chip Ganassi for 2004, and that they heated up early in ‘03, just a few months removed from his first title. There may be more on Jayski if you want to include that
What if Alan Kulwicki drove the Junior Johnson Budweiser 11 car series car 🚗 in 1992 instead of Bill Elliott. 😊
You mean No. 22 not the 11. Sterling Marlin drove No. 22 in 1991 and 1992.
Darrell Waltrip signed a deal with Roger Penske but Jim Gardner wouldn't let him out of his contract at Di-Gard
There was a rumored second car for PPI Motorsports getting re-formed for the 2004 season, and Joe Nemechek was the likely candidate. Then Joe got the 01 and PPI never attempted a second team after the humongous failure that was Andy Houstons 96 team
A Gordon fan! I like you. Subscribed!
Earnhardt had deal inplace with Hendrick to go to the 25 starting in 1997. Earnhardt requested to allow RCR to match the offer which he did
Let's not forgot Bruce Jenner was almost offered a ride in 1980 to run for Di-Gard before the Darrell Waltrip situation got figured out.
That comment you made that it would of been ewww if dale Sr drove a Ford.... well hate to break to you but he actually did drive for ford in his early Winston cup career. Drove a torino in the late 70s and a Thunderbird in the early 80s. He also drove a Dodge Charger in one off at the start as well so..... 🤷♂️
yep, before going back to RCR he was driving Bud Moores #15 Ford
And one more, Gordon had the opportunity to go with Evernham with the Dodge deal and turned it down.
Ironhead would not have been Darth Vader in any other car color.
The menace was made for the black 3 and the black 3 for him.
Hell I’d throw Kyle Busch staying in the HMS 5 instead of leaving/getting fired which would later prevent Mark Martin from driving the 5
Rumor I’ve heard what if Bill Elliott went to Junior Johnson in 87? What if Bill Elliott took the ride Terry had HMS. Furthermore what if bill said yes Gibbs
Good report on the what if's and what could have been. How about the deal with Joey Logano at Penski: As good as Joey has become at Gibbs expense. He would have been up the creek if it was not for AJ and his issues of losing the 22 ride.
When Childress brought that number 3 car out that Dale won his final race in, I wish they would've kept it how it came off of the track with the doughnut on the door and the left rear with the Goodyear worn off of it.
the car was prepared for the 2001 Daytona 500 as the backup
What about the NASCAR Memes Facebook page post from 10 years ago where Morgan Shepherd was to replace Jimmie Johnson in the Lowe's 48?
Nice NCSU shirt.
0:50 The same Don Hawk that replaced Ray Evernham in SRX?
You look like absorbed version of Dale Jr. Kurt Busch and MTJ.
earnhardt probably said 1 million because he had no intentions of leaving childress or chevrolet. and knew yates wouldnt agree to that term
Ford was paying was the rumor
2:00 They sponsored the 42 of Montoya at the time
What would I happen if David Allison? Alan kovicki would have never passed at a young age. That learned her might not have ever been a 7 time champ. Jimmy johnson might not have ever been a seven time champ that is nascar history
I remember hearing Mark Martin almost took over 28
Twice
What if Kyle Larson incident in 2020 never happened
He would be in the #1 car for trackhouse
I doubt it
the hendrick deal was a done deal.
Larson was a free agent at the end of that season anyways.
@@zt5547 I'm willing to bet he was destined to drive for Hendrick Motorsports anyway
@@NASCARFAN93100 which makes it bittersweet considering he's probably leaving Nascar in a couple of seasons
If Larson went to SHR that would’ve been a tragedy. That team is ass.
