Hello Omar. I think it would be really interesting if you and Sam/any other perfumer did a ‘How I would make this better’ series. Essentially take some popular fragrances with big flaws and explain how you would fix it if you were a perfumer. For example, how you would make YSL Myself less boring, or how you would make Oud for Greatness more wearable. I respect your content, keep up the good work.
He’s concerned because the man’s taste is weird AF. Omar has way better sense of taste than this so called perfumer. Hope his creations aren’t following the same woefully bad form as on this video and several other videos(can’t find one where i agree with him). Unless of course he is really trying to cater to and tap into that 1 in 10 oddball market. Before anoyone chimes in with the cliche talking point that fragrance taste is subjective, sure, what you like to wear is entirely up to you but not quite as subjective as you think and if you present as a perfumer and or a fragrance influencer then your taste cannot be subjective it MUST tilt on the side of objective otherwise you have chosen the wrong profession. Broadly speaking fragrance taste is NOT subjective otherwise we would not get 9/10 rated fragrances. By definition for a fragrance to be rated that high the vast majority agree that it is very good. On average most people would agree what fragrances go into the good category so so and bad caregory. Now of course you can be forgiven for breaking from the pack every now and then and there is nothing wrong with that. To be clear there is nothing wrong with any choice, your personal taste is entirely your choice, but the fact remains most people’s sense of what smells good or doesn’t converge greatly. Where we might find disagreement is in how good or how bad a fragrance is. For example i might rate a fragrance a 9 and someone else an 8, not a huge difference and one could say we both agree that it is at the very least very good. But if time and time again you rate fragrances a 2 or a 3 when on average people rate it a 9 then there is either something really off with your nose(oddball taste) or you are purposely being a contrarian. Methinks there is a bit of both with this guy. He knows perfectly well that his choices are controversial and appears to gleefully not care about that. If you are a nobody then who cares but if you are a perfumer or fragrance influencer then we have a problem on our hands.
Sam is a really nice guy, I wanted to buy one of his fragrances few months ago, but like with ATH shipping to EU is kinda too complicated and expensive for a smaller house. He responded very fast and explained the situation to me, so in the end I didn't feel dissapointed, but felt like I wish him to succeed in his career and one day to see his fragrances on the shelves of big stores and also in EU. Thank you Omar for making these videos with Sam (and your others as well) and showing alternative point of view on the world of perfumery.
I personally love Imagination, but I'm not so fragile that I'd get upset just because someone disses it online. Anyway It's a clever video format, and I enjoy it every time. Thank you, Sam and Omar!
I absolutely love your meetings with Sam. Your are the biggest perfume goats in the community together with ATH. It is very entertaining video seeing perfumer's subjective thoughts about olfactory profiles of perfumes as finished formulas obviously. I adore this.
Hi Omar! I always enjoy a lot when Sam and you stay together doing a review of several perfumes. Sam sometimes suprises me with his point of view. Great video! See you soon!
I feel like the reason Sam gets hated on for his takes is because he doesn't offer any objective ratings. He rates everything based on his subjective tastes but doesn't give a separate objective review like Omar or other reviewers such as ATH do. I don't mind his opinion because that's half the reason we are here but would appreciate if he gave his objective professional opinion as a perfumer...because otherwise his opinion is no more or less valuable than any other random casual that has smelled a lot of fragrances.
But didn't he objectively say that the ingredients smell high quality and it's well made but it's doesn't fit his taste. It's the same with music or drawing you can ask artists about stuff from different genres maybe they can appreciate parts of it but they would rate things in their preferred genre always higher.
I understand that you only let him smell designer fragrances to avoid controversy and drama, but I'd love to see him smell Aaron's work and see what he thinks about it. Or just more niche fragrances in general. Something with quality raw materials, something more complex.

I'm sorry but you can smell them all but you will never smell anything like the original very sexy for him by Victorias secret. I still can't believe they discontinued such a wonderful scent that would literally attract all, it was a true secret weapon.
Imagination only starts getting good about 45 min in and it continues to get better as time progressed such that to my nose goes from a solid 8 in the opening to a 9.5 in the deep dry down. It all comes down to the ambroxan which behaves the same in almosy all fragrances it is in and even on it’s own, opens a little harsh and synthetic and dries down to this beautiful sweet lightly marine soapy creamy goodness that is magical in the air. This guy is all over the place. Seen him before, just don’t think he has any real taste or high calibre sensibility about perfumery. Imagination is objectively a very good fragrance, you just have to wait a little for that goodness to kick in. I can understand if he isn’t crazy about it but the fact that he marks it a 3 means he trained his nose in upside down world and probably belongs to that 1 in 10 individuals with a glitchy nose. If 9 out of 10 do like it and you don’t then you may want to seriously consider if you chose the right profession. Lets hope he doesn’t create fragrances that only appeal to 1 in 10 people.
I think imagination is pleasant, but it’s kind of feminine to me and something about it particularly reminds me of the way a pretty woman’s hair might smell. Like it basically smells like a luxury feminine hair product mixed with the smell of a woman’s freshly washed hair.

Giving something 3/10 just because you don't personally like the scent is pretty weird. From a perfumer, I'd expect the ratings to be objective, I'd expect he would be rating quality, etc… For this type of interview, I can stop a 15 year old girl on the street to get a "3/10 I don't like it" kind of rating.
