Nice to hear you mention Scout Niblett. I sought her out after I heard her vocals on Magnolia Electric Co.’s “Peoria Lunch Box Blues”. Similar in its’ sparseness to her solo work, but has a definite Neil Young and Crazy Horse grunge sound to it. I love much of her work, but this song has always been my favorite.

I love that Liz Phair record, I just discussed it in my last video where I showed my Rolling Stones Exile on Mainstreet! I just saw her live a couple months ago where she played the WHOLE album, great stuff - her opener was a GREAT Female indie artist called "Blondshell" - highly recommended!!
I love Gilmore Girls, thanks for that tidbit about Sam Phillips and the music from the show! And the DIE HARD tidbit, damn, dropping the awesome trivia!
Scout Niblett reminds me a bit of Catpower, I'm digging it. You're right about 'just what I needed', very interesting take on that song.

I discovered Liz Phair's music a week ago. And I like it...I saw interviews on here, and it sounds like Liz has her act together. I have a decillion times more respect for her than that loser Kurt Cobain married...in fact, I think if CL didn’t exist, female rock’s reputation would had flourished sooner.

Hi Mazzy, great choices of great female artists. I love it when you get passionate about your favourite artists. Out of the five you showcased, I have got almost all records (CD or vinyl) of four of them. And there are so many more great women out there. The only artists I wasn't aware of is Scout Niblett. But thanks to streaming services, this can be changed quickly. A word about Sam Phillips: I love all of her albums. But particularly World On Sticks, which I purchased directly from her website, impressed me the most.

You should listen to a friend of mine from Aberdeen Scotland. Her name is Kathryn Joseph. Her vocals are very unique and maybe not for everyone. She plays the piano and her first album was Scottish album in 2015. Bones You Have Thrown Me and Blood I’ve Spilled. She has another two albums out after that one.

Great (short) list but if you were listing all the great female indie rockers it would be a three hour video…
Just recently bought Exile . It’s one of my wife and my Favorites. We’ve been streaming it forever and so when I heard they were re-releasing it on vinyl I had to pick up a copy and I gotta
Say, it holds ip really Well and is one that I’ll play straight through start to finish. It’s a shame that she went through such a critical Drubbing as a result Of having such a brilliant and influential 1st album. The expectations for a Follow Up were probably astronomical. She was literally the poster child for female indie-rock at one Point. I actually like her First three albums though.
And Sam Phillips! Love so many of her albums but you mentioned 3 of my favorites.
I have a copy of Joanna Newsom Ys and bought it because of VanDyke Parks’ involvement as an arranger but I never quite “got it”. Gonna give it another go because it’s probably one Of those records that you gotta live with for a bit. Speaking of Van Dyke, I believe he’s on Fan Dance too…
Another female artist I also really love is Aimee Mann, her albums “whatever” and “I’m with Stupid” are both incredible but She’s pretty Prolific and even though she mines the same relationship-gone-bad material, she writes beautiful melodies and wonderful, playful lyrics.
Gonna Have to check out Scout Niblett because she sounds like someone who makes The kind Of
    Noise I’d like…
