One of the best videos I ever saw on RUclips. It is almost shocking to get such a detailed inside view of the world of F1. And of course, by two of the nicest world champions. Nico and Jenson, thank you.
For a bit of context, Hamilton and Alonso faced JB in totally different circumstances. The teammate pairings are not comparable at all. Hamilton/JB were in a competitive McLaren. They won loads of races(18) fighting at the front of the field against RB and Ferrari over 3 years from 2010-2012. It was a high pressure, high stakes period where they had so much to fight for and this is what gives their teammate pairing a higher status than the norm. They had a legit memorable rivalry. So many great battles and wins between them and their relationship was tested because because they were actually fighting for something. Alonso/JB were in a joke of a McLaren car. A complete crapbox fighting for absolutely nothing at the back of the field. They never even scored a single podium in the 2 years they were teammates from 2015-2016. Thy basically just did test sessions every race because the car was so bad and the reliability was awful. It was a horrendous period in both JB's and Alonso's careers and they simply did not build any kind of real rivalry at all. It was an embarrassing joke of a time for both of the former world champions who were used to winning and fighting at the front of the field. That's why they are not comparable. JB did not fight Alonso for anything. His relationship with Alonso was never tested in the same way it was against Hamilton with race wins on the line. Do people really think Button and Alonso would have been so friendly if they fought each other for race wins? Not a chance.
I love how when Jensen told the story about the drum I could hear the reaction of DC “oh dear Jensen” in his voice. Quiet Scottish disappointment accompanied by a shake of the head 🤣
As mentioned in other comments, watching a YT video with 2 world champions talking about the sport is absolutely thrilling as a fan. these guys really have a lot in common! Debuted in williams, first win 6 years after debut, winning wdc with brackley-based team, JB got wdc after 9 years, nico after 10 years of debut. Class!
They also esentially won the wdc with the same team if you think about it. Merc bought Brawn gp and that also means they won their wdc's with a merc engine
Wow, this is one of the greatest F1 videos ever! Two of the nicest guys ever to do it, two of the hardest won and greatest F1 championship winners of all time, hanging out, chatting, nothing held back just the real truth. I was there at Melbourne to see Jenson put the Brawn on pole and then take the win. Such a roller coaster and such a special time. One of the greatest stories in F1 history for sure. Then Nico's WC win, one of the hardest fought, and won agasinst one of the toughest competitors ever in the history of the sport, and then won it... and just walked away. Wow. What a podcast! 2 legends. 2 of my favorite drivers. Went through 15 years of racing in an hour. The Alonso comments from Jenson and the final laps before Nico's world championship took it to the next level. Wow.
Jenson is the King of interchangeable conditions. If he still raced today. He most likely going to score fantastic result in whatever car he is at in Sochi or Turkey this year. He always seems to have the right tyres
What a unique era that we have the privilege to watch two world champions sit down for a friendly conversation and speak candidly with each other. Amazing.
What an absolute legend Jeson is. So open and honest about everything. I always remember that drive he had in Canada where he chased down Vettel and eventually won the race.

This was brilliant. Excellent discussion between two racers that clearly like each other. Enjoyed this and appreciated the insights you guys felt comfortable sharing. Reminded me a lot of the feelings I felt during my amatuer sports car days during the good and bad weekends. Big fan of both of you!

Man, I just wanted to congratulate you for this amazing interview! Everything flowed perfectly, and JB is such a great character, and insanely fast in the rain. Big fan here, cheers from Colombia!! (a bit of feedback, the volume levels on the music at the end took me by surprise, so it could be better to check that in future releases, but no big deal anyways)
I like how sensible Jenson was when answering the Lewis and Fernando question, saying that he only could speak for when he was their teammate at the time.
@@govindbhachu4077 you seem to be slightly delusional, Sir Lewis Hamilton is a better driver than Alonso by far. His record speaks for itself. Alonso had his chances with one of the greatest teams in Ferrari, he blew it with his attitude within the garage. The same with McLaren, by calling the engine a GP2 engine, again his attitude. There’s no use showing your skill and driving qualities every now and then, you have to do it almost all the times, like Lewis does, because he’s constant with his driving. Remember Lewis out drove him when he was with McLaren.
I have to admit, this interview may be the all time BEST race driver interview I have ever heard or seen. Not to take anything away from Nico, but whoever it is who assisted him in preparing the questions deserves a reward. Nico, you were great. Jenson's memory for detail is also fantastic. I am going to watch this one over and over. Thanks for a fantastic hour of entertainment.
I think this is from Nico. Have you seen his podcasts with Ricciardo and Toto? He generally holds nothing back and asks really good questions. He is doing us a great service 😬
When Jenson was asked about his teamates he spoke 95 % of the time about Alonso and 5 % about Hamilton... Alonso probably dont got much tittles but he is a legend.
Couldn't bring himself to accept Lewis made right decision AND was a better driver than him. Button took over team from Hamilton, played the politics and had Whitmarsh favouring him as No1...which helped Lewis go to Mercedes. Button secretly thinks he's as good but can't say it now the titles and figures blow him away....JB was great after he was gifted a championship, too much partying by that. He'd never have won his first championship in a dog fight
@@hamonryechinaski180 same for Crymilton...or he never "plays the politics"? With the superiority of that Mercedes half of the grip can win a championship....his Mercedes is even more dominant than the Brawn...
Nonsense. JB used to talk about Hamilton all the time. I can distinctly remember how often the media would ask him about his partnership with Hamilton after they were teammates when Hamilton left for Mercedes and then when JB retired he started his new career as a TV pundit and was always talking about Hamilton on Sky TV. His initial post F1 career was built on talking about Hamilton. Alonso was JB's last teammate. That's why Alonso became part of the discussion after JB had already talked about Hamilton a million times. Also, JB and Hamilton used to actually win races and battle at the front of the field. They won 18 races for McLaren over 3 years. It was a legendary McLaren teammate pairing. Alonso vs JB was a pathetic teammate "battle" in a crap car fighting for absolutely nothing at the back of the field. They never even scored a podium. It was an awful time in both of their careers Do not compare the two because they are not in the same league at all.
Thanks for leaving me in tears talking about Jensons dad. I got the impression it got to you a bit too. These conversations are so informative. Love them. Thanks.

Wonderful interview! I really enjoyed all the technical aspects of the discussions and was really emotional seeing both of you talking (and getting emotional) about Jenson's father. Also, as a Brazilian, I can relate to the person who put the stair over the restaurant Jenson was in. At that point, Rubens still had a chance to become a WDC! You guys are incredible and it's great to see two drivers I've rooted for become WDC and overall very accomplished but still humble as well!
The conversation was technical as well, especially on the driving style , Jenson mentioned about drivers braking-accelerating hard and managing the oversteer with very quick/small steering corrections (though all F1 drivers are in different league ) and other style which is more smoother but being slightly less aggressive on brakes/ throttle. The smoother driving style making the difference in qualifying though helping in wet and uncertain grip levels . Usually interviews miss this depth in Vehicle Dynamics. Enjoyed the question & answer.
Montoya at his rookie indy 500 was just incredible . What a driver , what an amazing race driver's name " Juan Pablo Montoya !!!" Sounds fast , is fast ....

Been watching since i was like 6-7 with my dad, so that would be from 2005-2006 and i can say that anyone who is fighting for the wdc and wins it deserves it 100%, good luck or bad luck is part of life and sometimes it helps you win, sometimes it is the reason why you dont win, but that's just life really.
Jenson is such a great ambassador for f1. Used to always love seeing his dad get interviewed as well, what a nice guy he was, sad he’s gone but it’s great he was around to see Jenson win the championship. You can see he did a great job with Jenson.
It would be nice to have a podcast with Vettel or Fernando
Vettel was unstoppable those four years. Winning the 2012 championship especially was a huge accomplishment. With 6 world champions on the grid.
Fernando be like:why didn’t you leave da space?

I hope the people watching this realize how fortunate we are as fans of motorsport to get the chance to listen to two world champions speak so honestly about their experiences. Thank you for this Nico! Would LOVE to see some sort of World Champion series where you have a sit down with every world champ and talk to them. To have you be such a great interviewer now after your racing days is so cool.
It’s nice to see Alonso get his recognition , been a lifelong Hamilton fan but I think Alonso is the goat alongside Lewis
And max
@@leeillman4983 bruh Max literally cannot be considered a goat at this point. Let him get some more seasons under his belt before you elevate him to that level.

28:45 Nico casually flexing how good he was at qualifying against Lewis 😂 I love it
He is the only one in the history of teammate battle against Lewis that could ever match and trade blows in qualifying pace. Mad he could do that repeatedly! Over the many races they had, Hamilton is above by like 6 times. That's very marginal for like the ~80races they had together.
@@MelonAMango oh yeah Nico has every right to brag about his achievements. Incredible driver. I just love how he pretends to not remember it when we all know that he studied all of his statistics against Lewis. Confidence without cockiness haha
@@cody95 Rosberg gonna drop that flex whenever Schumacher or Hamilton name comes to play when the question is asked about him being their teammates 😂I hope they fix their brotherhood that went sour, one day. They were literally jumping for joy whenever they both made it to the podium back then.
The guys talking about the stress of dealing with a world championship really brought it home. Out of this world respect. And even more so to the multi time winners who do it time and time again.
not the same. Jenson was a midfield driver who lucked into possibly the most dominant car in history for a certain duration. He won 6/7 races at the start of 2009 and then didnt win any.
@daarom He always had a talent and in some races he could manage some nice things in less than optimal cars.

I love the fact that Nico knows how to reveal the hidden parts of F1 drivers. So insightful and interesting. We all know that media rarely gives us a true look at these guys. Nico is truly a "Brother" in the fraternity of drivers.
This was pure gold! Hearing you talk about memories from the past, the bar in Tokyo, and your feelings & emotions from your racing career was just... I realized that I was sitting with a smile during the whole video. Great stuff to both of you 👏🏻
How wonderful to listen to two fabulous people and racing drivers just chat like they were sat having a pint in a pub 😀
This was SO enjoyable to watch! The hour passed like 10 minutes and I could have sat here and easily listened to you both for another hour. The genuine respect and friendship really comes across and the joy with which you discuss all these great memories was a privilege and pleasure to listen to.
One of the best videos I ever saw on RUclips. It is almost shocking to get such a detailed inside view of the world of F1. And of course, by two of the nicest world champions. Nico and Jenson, thank you.
The only thing I learned from this is that Nico Hulkenberg had the strongest handshake in the paddock
Alonso owned button in mclaren
@@sunritroykarmakar4406 Hence why they are saying it's not comparable
Yes they would be this friendly. They’re mature and elite professionals not little school boys, grow up.

Watching you two share stories and experiences, which only fellow drivers could know and share, must make feel bonded together in a way. Like brothers but in a sport. Big thumbs up!
Honestly, the best F1 interview I’ve ever seen. Fascinating insights and stories 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Can't believe I watched this video full till the end without skipping any second, hahahhaa.... Thanks Nico. And it's really good to see two world champions talking about their passion.
A priceless window into the sport provided by two of the worlds nicest drivers. Thank you guys.
To be honest, probably the two most underated World Champions of all time
I don’t think they’re underrated or overrated. I think people rate them just right. Two exceptional drives but not in the all time top 10
Crazy that these two world champions shared the F1 grid together for a decade and never took an hour to speak. Amazing that we could watch it happen, thanks for this NR & JB!
Nico, I cannot thank you enough for this wonderful conversation with Jenson. It's so enjoyable to hear some funny stories and find out more about the life of the F1 driver. I really like how you talk to your guests, always respectfully and heartily. Thank you! I enjoyed every second of your podcast.

Magnificent!

Love you guys!!
Amazing stories!
these guys really have a lot in common!
So the only difference is pre-Toto and post-Toto
Wow, this is one of the greatest F1 videos ever! Two of the nicest guys ever to do it, two of the hardest won and greatest F1 championship winners of all time, hanging out, chatting, nothing held back just the real truth. I was there at Melbourne to see Jenson put the Brawn on pole and then take the win. Such a roller coaster and such a special time. One of the greatest stories in F1 history for sure. Then Nico's WC win, one of the hardest fought, and won agasinst one of the toughest competitors ever in the history of the sport, and then won it... and just walked away. The greatest mic drop of all time! Legendary. Thank you Nico for putting this together and Jenson for being so candid and open. This was so special! Can't wait to see how Extreme E goes!
Could listen all day to this guys! Btw whenever I think of Nico Rosberg I always remember that iconic moment in 2006 I think, when he retired and when the crane took the car he was still in it! For me seen that as a kid I thought it was the most badass thing ever in F1 hahah underrated moment by Nico!
Wow. What a podcast! 2 legends. 2 of my favorite drivers. Went through 15 years of racing in an hour. The Alonso comments from Jenson and the final laps before Nico's world championship took it to the next level. Wow.
Just finished watching this video , I am all the way from South Africa, love what you guys are doing for the sport and going into detail.
Awehhh👌👌
Jenson is the King of interchangeable conditions. If he still raced today. He most likely going to score fantastic result in whatever car he is at in Sochi or Turkey this year. He always seems to have the right tyres
Sadly this doesn't happen very often.
Alonso is an all rounder
What a unique era that we have the privilege to watch two world champions sit down for a friendly conversation and speak candidly with each other. Amazing.
What an absolute legend Jeson is. So open and honest about everything. I always remember that drive he had in Canada where he chased down Vettel and eventually won the race.
Amazing interview, Nico! It's so nice to see two World Champions honestly talking about their fears, failures and successes. That is the kind of content we rarely watch on tv. Congrats for the good job!

Nico, we need more podcasts with people from the f1 paddock, always such amazing insights from the old days, love it
Really great podcast with my favourite driver Jenson. It was like 2 mates casually chatting about F1 and life.
I like how sensible Jenson was when answering the Lewis and Fernando question, saying that he only could speak for when he was their teammate at the time.
Yeah but it’s general knowledge that Fernando is overall a greater driver than Lewis amongst F1 drivers.
@@govindbhachu4077 i disagree. I believe Lewis is better now. I like both of them though
@@govindbhachu4077
Believe it if it makes you fill better 🤣🤣🤣
@@govindbhachu4077 you seem to be slightly delusional, Sir Lewis Hamilton is a better driver than Alonso by far. His record speaks for itself. Alonso had his chances with one of the greatest teams in Ferrari, he blew it with his attitude within the garage. The same with McLaren, by calling the engine a GP2 engine, again his attitude. There’s no use showing your skill and driving qualities every now and then, you have to do it almost all the times, like Lewis does, because he’s constant with his driving. Remember Lewis out drove him when he was with McLaren.
I never thought Jenson is such a funny guy! I enjoyed watching this podcast.
Alonso probably dont got much tittles but he is a legend.
yes, well described. Respect.
Alonso 💪🏼💪🏼
I don’t like Alonso at all but he’s the closest driver that remind me of Senna pure talent
Love them. Thanks.
Man I wish I watched F1 more when Nico and Jenson were around.

What a great conversation. Great to see two world champions talking about the struggles to reach and stay at the highest level
24:40 Nico's face: just realizing he never found that out about Lewis
The conversation was technical as well, especially on the driving style , Jenson mentioned about drivers braking-accelerating hard and managing the oversteer with very quick/small steering corrections (though all F1 drivers are in different league ) and other style which is more smoother but being slightly less aggressive on brakes/ throttle. The smoother driving style making the difference in qualifying though helping in wet and uncertain grip levels . Usually interviews miss this depth in Vehicle Dynamics. Enjoyed the question & answer.
