The fan noise increase is due to the uv leds needing much more cooling than the laser system did. I have 2 Form 2s, 2 Form3 and a Form 3L and I may have hit the end of the road with formlabs with the Form 4. There is just way too much competition in the lcd based printer market for FormLabs to charge this much for the printer. The Form 4 is an 8k lcd which is far and away a great unit but there are now alot of other printers that have 14k lcd screens and cost in the 500 dollar range. The open source resin markets have improved so much with companies like loctite making engineering grade materials for these lcd based printers. Also the film on the trays will need to be replace with a fair bit of regularity just like the older trays. From the appearance it looks to be an nfep material with will still over time break down and have ghosting similar to how the laser based printer films degrade.

You make an excellent point. In terms of qulaity and functionality overall tech you cant really compare Formlabs to these 500 printers but you definitely can to the Heygears Reflex and thats half the price for the complete kit and an amazing printer. I cant understand how people are paying these prices I would rather buy a few of the different brand 500 printers!
@@julieta203 you make fair points, but as a U.S. based medical device company user, there are reasons why I would not/could not use some of these other companies…….
The LCD resolution in the Form 4 is 8k? I thought it was 4k since one video said 50um pixel size is quite a sweet spot for the resolution vs. light intensity.
@@starride4530 You are correct the Form 4 is a 4k screen. I talked with Formlabs at Rapid this year and they also confirmed it was only 4k. They swear that they are doing some magic to somehow sub divide that pixel down to achieve a lower pixel size, but to me it sounded like image blur and AA like how Chitubox has it. Even at 4k resolution the details should be great and crispy, but I would still choose some of the cheaper 8-12 options out there. If I was to still stay in that level the new Heygears machine had amazing print results from what I saw at Rapid and it comes in at under half the price of the Form 4 and it comes with wash and cure stations for that price. Heygears had some very nice resins on display and the feeling of the resins were extremely hard with an almost ceramic feeling. Not sure if they are achieving that hardness by over exposing the layers though.
I actually wrote some of the firmware for the Form 4 wash station (see if you can find the easter egg😉). Glad you like the system!
