    Thanks for doing that. My husband and I rescue horses, fostering and adopting them, mostly retired racehorses. Currently we have a retired racehorse that ran over 60 races. I ride him on trails. Retired thoroughbreds make wonderful trail horses because they're well trained, spook proof, and thinking. Eager to go forward. Never stubborn or lazy/slow. Also we have retired competition roper, who basically just gets to live a simple life because he has DSLD.
    We've brought back many of them from starvation and neglect.

    I'm an older horse owner with a 24 yr old metabolic Connemara gelding with dental issues. Matt - this was an excellent and informative video that was very fun plus provided clear health management for this young horse owner. I was glad to hear your helpful comments to be aware for sugar and rich grass diet concerns. Well done and very impressive results!

    I don't have horses and never had one. An exfriend of mine abandoned her horses at our house. I told her that she can bring her horses to our house since our property use to horses. We told her that she had to take care of the needs of the horses. We can feed them as long as she provides everything. After she brought the horses to our property, I never saw her again. We ended up doing everything for the horses. Thankfully we had connections to get hay cubes and feed for them. We also have friends that have horses and my husband and I rescue dogs. Anyhow, long story short, I've been watching your channel and a few other horse channels in case someone tries to do that again. This video was very helpful just in case I ever find myself in that kind of situation. We did end up sending the horses to Best Friends Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah in the US. Is there this line of products in the United States? We do donate to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary here in Utah. They have all kinds of animals, horses included.

I love gathering the horse knowledge even though I doubt I’ll ever be around horses again. I find it all so interesting (but am not interested in certain disciplines or areas of the horse world.)

    Hello Matt from our farm in Central ⛵ Lakes Region New Hampshire. I agree with the comments regarding shavings vs straw. I always used shavings. Then I knew what my horses were eating, plus shavings were super easy to pick out. I am glad you are diversifying onto other horse related enterprises. Representing reputable feed companies is a great idea. It helps all involved. I hope that you and Jesse are making progress with moving. May the weather be in your favor. We were 15 degrees below zero F yesterday. Waiting patiently for 🌱 spring! ~ Diane

    My opinion, but I would put down shavings as bedding vs. hay because he will always eat it thinking that he will be deprived of food from one day to the next (even though it will always provide it) | He will overcome this in time, but a proper diet (as this video states) is key and it looks like the current owner has just what the doctor ordered! | I'm sure that everything with him will work out as he is clearly in good hands! 👍🐎

    Haylage is never good. If it is wrapped in plastic (the big marshmellows), it does not get air and the microbes that develop in that proces make the intestine too sour (ph level too low). So never give haylage (voordroog), even if it is dry. That does not matter, it is the fact it doesn't get air that matters.

    • @LaizyDaisy
      @LaizyDaisy 6 дней назад

      What are you talking about? How else do you preserve semi wilted grass? It absolutely does NOT want air in it.

  • @elouan5092
    @elouan5092 5 дней назад

    I don't know nothing about horse's diet but an another subject concerns me.
    An agressive behavior around the food can be caused by deprivation, yes... but it's also and more often a problem with the relation between the horse and the owner... Merlin seems very pushy with this young lady. He doesn't respect at all her space.... In less than a minute, he moved her a lot... because she's not a leader for him. So it's very logic, in his head, that he has to protect his food from her... like he could do with a more submissive horse. It's very vdangerous if a horse acts with a human like he does with a horse.... This young girl seems to love Merlin, but she needs to learn to be the leader (with some ground work and maybe some help if shes doesn't know nothing about horseman ship). Leadership doesn't mean violence... it means respect and safety for both of them, Merlin and his owner.
