Chrissy, please keep doing these videos. They are incredible and give us insights into the mind of a champion and what made them the best. And also many times reveals what makes them human and a different side to their on court persona.

Lindsay Davenport is an incredible player. What an amazing career she has had... beautiful and clean ball striker and so graceful both on court and off court. The 2005 GS losses to Serena at the AO and Venus at Wimbledon in particular are tough ones but I always feel like she won 7 slams or more and its surprising to think she won only 3. She was so consistent and wish she played longer.
Lindsay is both an incredible tennis player and an amazing Mensch!
The best hitter of a tennis ball, all things considered, I've seen in women's tennis. Power, feel, clean striking, timing, soft hands...everything.
Sorry, don't agree with that at all - she had power, but limited feel, was very average at the net and her movement was awful! A great power hitter and a good serve, but was outclassed by the Williams sisters as they had as much power, but could also move.
@@joemurphy1072 she was one of the best at the net, just didn't need to volley too often as her strokes were so often winners. She was known for having great hands and it's obvious to watch so I am not sure where you get that from. The only area the sisters out flanked her on was obviously movement, possibly a slight advantage with the serve for Serena but they were both great in that department. But the gulf in movement was huge.
@@tomgraham3206 ...although she has been improving her movement a lot over the years. That's why she could reach the number 1 spot and win a few grand slam titles. But from 93 to 97 or so her mobility was really bad and for that reason she was not able to deal with Conchitas game very well.
@@horstwackekurst7145 no doubt her movement was always her weakness, although if she could reach the ball in time she usually dealt with it well, even on the defence. But her ball strike was the best I've seen.
@@tomgraham3206 I like her too. By the way Serena talked to the press about Lindsay after she defeated Sabalenka at the Australian Open and mentioned, that Lindsay was the most aggressive player she had to face in her career.
Lindsay always gives great interviews - I've always admired how openly she talks about her insecurities as a tennis player
Loving these interviews, Lindsay had one of the most formidable forehands in my opinion and when she struck that powerful forehand it made the most beautiful sound.
No player men or women hit the ball like lindsay could. She hit some of the cleanest winners down the line cross court you name it and not to mention one of the most classiest sportswoman ever she was fantastic to watch

Chris is excellent interviewer. I love how she asks thoughtful, intelligent questions and then LETS Lindsay or whoever give detailed , comprehensive answers.
Chris looks great for her age....I know she's had work done but it looks good....enjoyable interview apart from the uber annoying background music.
Outside of the Williams sisters, she is my fav. An amazing player. Some of the cleanest ground strokes ever.

A very enjoyable interview. Lindsay is a really interesting and engaging interviewee.
I like the way Chris Evert is, as is often the case, very snarky about Steffi Graf. First, she mentions the string of great champions that Lindsay faced during her long career (omitting Graf - possibly deliberately), then stating when some champions left (presumably, Graf), even greater ones came along. To be honest, apart from Serena, who does Chris think is a greater champion than Graf in that post-Graf era? Serena - possibly a ‘yes’. Who else?

When it comes to ground stroke speed, there are different types of ball strikers. Aryna Sabalenka and Kutznetsova's balls have more spin and kinda jump off the court. Kvitova and Davenport hit the ball so flat and early so their shots really get on u so quickly. Nobody could take your time away like Davenport in her prime

Lindsay was/is a beautiful ball striker. Just exceptional timing and easy power.
Also along with Martina Navratilova these two are undoubtedly the most articulate and insightful former players.

Her blouse is similar to the one Monica Seles wore in her interview (random, I know)! Lindsay was probably the best ball-striker of the ball (Pierce is right there, too).

There has never been a better, cleaner ball-striker in tennis. Man or woman. Period.
She lack confidence, I remember fans screaming at her to not give up! She had all the weapons and I bet she would be a best friend on my team!
This was a very interesting interview. Lindsay is such an articulate person in addition to being a fantastic tennis player. I think it's great she stuck around the sport after retiring from playing the way that she has. She has alot to offer the fans!
This was great. Serena Williams was quoting as saying: "Nobody hit harder than Lindsay."
I specifically remember Serena saying Monica Seles was the hardest hitter she ever faced. Do you have the quote?

I keep coming back to this interview. Lindsay didn't choose tennis... Tennis chose Lindsay 🎾 There's just something about Lindsay... the calmness, humility and positive energy. What a champion & it's an honor & privilege that she's still associated with tennis as a brilliant commentator 🏆

Very talented and respected player.
I have seen a pattern here in the smattering of these interviews. Evert does the gracious humble self depreciating thing that she has down pat, and in each, the interviewee finds a way to remind her and us, that she's not going to get away with it. She can do the interview and ask the questions, but she is a member of 'the club' in good standing, and nobody is going to pretend differently.
Class act from beginning to end....... I remember screaming when she won her match point for the US Open in 1998.

I only spotted one dig (the one about greater champions coming along after Graf had left the game). Was there another one?
Evert has often made digs at Graf - as has Navratilova. It’s nothing new, unfortunately.
@@scswp6945 Chris didn't mention Steffi when she was saying Lindsay played in the golden era of women's tennis but I think it was unintentional.
I've watched most of these and the few times Steffi gets mentioned, Chris changes the subject. I don't understand it at all. I know she was resentful when she was playing. All of us who play resent our nemeses, but it's been 30 years! Some of it is, of course, that she wants to promote the Americans, but tennis is really an international sport.

I agree with your points. I don’t understand the seeming resentment either, especially after all this time. I’ve said many times that Graf was only interested in playing tennis and in winning matches. She didn’t care about the American Evert, Navratilova and Shriver clique in her earlier days on the tour and she never strove to be a part of their group. She was just happy doing her own thing. Evert and Navratilova sure seem to suffer from ‘sour grapes syndrome’ - it’s quite sad really. Graf, on the other hand, seems very happy with her life now.
@@antinotis they always seem to downgrade her. She out achieved them on the big stages. And she isn't american, which doesn't fit their narrative.

Lindsay had a very powerful groundstroke play. I wished she could have won the 2004 us open, 2004 Wimbledon, 2005 Australian open and 2005 Wimbledon. Was in superb hitting form at that time. Still a great career though
According to the ol' Googlee machine, Evert reached 34 GS Finals and won 18. So she won more than she lost.
None will never hit the ball like she does.

She is elegance best still she has that confidence easy way of walking. Hate retirement but its part of unavoidable rule of life.
It's rather sad what the women's game has become today. It's a revolving door of women that come and go and can't maintain success or don't care to. They seem to come to get a couple of good wins and then take the money and run. Just not seeing the commitment to be a consistent champion.
Lindsay was a marvelous force on the tour. She would have 7 or 8 slams if the Williams sisters had not been on the other side of the net.

Yes it means you were best player from the beginning of the season until the end of the year. The same reason there is a difference between winning a calendar year slam versus winning 4 straight

There is nobody as humble, to think the No. 1 ranking happened to you vs to think you earned it.
Lindsey was one of the biggest and cleanest ball strikers on the tour, if not the biggest ball striker. She played a beautiful, powerful game. And with her served, she was able to rush players aside. Her one true fault with her movement, and her volley wasn’t the greatest although she was agreat doubles player

It was the biggest win of her career tbh. Graf was the best player on grass of the 90s and was the one to beat at Wimbledon. Only Lindsay and Martina Navratilova beat Steffi on that court in a final.
