Taro, many thanks to you for this movement of hip bursitis, to train me noticing the way i walk. I find this movement very helpful, i will continue to do this exercise daily to improve my body balance. Thanks again, Taro, enjoy the weekend!
I’ve been having a pain in the exact place on your video and you made me realize that’s how I am walking: tilting my hip up and down slightly as I walk and that causes the pain! I will pay amore attention when I walk and hopefully in time, this will make the pain go away. Thank you so much! ❤
Love your teaching, has helped me, thank you. I really appreciate the details you give when demonstrating your moves, you answer questions we have that way, without us even having to ask. Excellent.
I found your video after I notice my knee swinging out and popping. I have bursitis, and I felt like I needed to straighten up my walk. Thanks for your help!
I tried what I think was right, it almost felt like immediate relief. I wish you could have shown from the side view but I will take the relief where I can get it. Thank you for this video.
Thank you Taro for all of your help. I subbed your channel quite a few months ago and somehow missed this important video. Going to begin implementing today! Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you! This looks greatly helpful and I’m going to incorporate it to retrain my hips. I’ve never heard of bursitis before, but after carrying babies on hips for over a decade, I’m pretty sure that is the sensitive pressure I feel.
@@adoxartist1258 thank you! I just saw your comment, and I agree - PT would have been so, so helpful postpartum! I’m 2 years out since my last was born and still feeling it. It’s also tricky getting back into exercise with diastasis recti. There is so much modifying typical workouts that needs to be done, it leaves me wondering what to do! If anything, I’ll go jump on the mini trampoline. 🙃 I love my babies but miss dancing and weight lifting, etc. 💛
@@heartsandmindsathome Hey, whatever works! Mini trampoline is fun! I do hope you are able to get back to the activities you love. My kids are grown now. I wish we'd had more information and better options 20-odd years ago. But I'll improve what I can now and go from there. Best of luck, Mom! It's a draining job you're doing, even in the best of health. 💛 Take care of you. 🌼
My right hip has been bothering me both in the front and on the side, and I had no clue as to what it could be. But after seeing this video and a little more research, I'm fairly certain that it must be two kinds of bursitis, and I'm definitely going to try this exercise to see if it helps. Thanks so much!
I had similar pain and although my physio guessed it to be under use of mid gluteus muscles, none of the exercises she gave me were particularly helpful. However I discovered one exercise online which did: Stand with feet together and facing forward Turn right foot in so toes on that foot are angled towards other foot. Lift right leg back diagonally, gently. Repeat several times then switch to other leg. Also helpful to turn toes out when doing body squats or deadlifts. One reason why I think I developed the hip pain originally was because during the pandemic I wasn't at the gym where I used the elliptical (which takes pressure and force off the joints) and was walking outdoors for miles instead. I was also exercising at home without toes turned out in the way I did when at gym. Also very important to have correct support in footwear 😊
Thank you once again for your good advice 🙏🏻 I did this practice and was surprised that I was a little sore, I must be using different muscles that I wasn’t 😮 I appreciate your hard work making these helpful videos 😊
I started walking long distances a lot last year and this came on suddenly. I stopped walking altogether as it was the worst trigger for me. I tried all the exercises but quit. Things slowly started to go away. I started walking yesterday and it came back immediately. I just found this video and now realize I swing my hip waaaaaay out! Lots of homework
Oh yes! I can't wait to try this! After months of healing from a couple of falls, I feel I've forgotten how to walk properly. Very helpful! Thank you so much! 👍💕
Beautifully explained and demonstrated. I have been suffering with back pain and recently had surgery. I have an unusual gait when I walk and I believe this is what is contributing to my constant hip pain. I will incorporate this exercise in my routine to see if it helps. Thank you for making this helpful video. Keep up the good work. Thanks 😊
This is 100% my problem ... I swing out to the left when I run (without realizing ) and really hurt my hip ; haven't been able to run in months ... gotta try this
I was first diagnosed with this in April and the pain was incredible, especially the band down outer thigh. The hip pain kept me awake at night. I lived on painkillers for weeks and did the exercises as advised by the physiotherapist. By June, it was much better, no pain and I started up my hour walks again and bang it flared up in July only much worse this time. I was almost crying with the pain. Today is the first day I have gone without prescribed painkillers. The problem with me is that I have a slight curvature and the leg that was affected is around a quarter or so shorter. I also have fallen arches which are so painful too.
I had pain in my hip that was mostly due to one leg being shorter and it was causing me to throw the opposite hip out. It’s been much better since I started using a lift in that shoe. But I think this will help me even more.
Just thought, based on your description of the swinging hips: I imagine holding babies on our hips while doing daily tasks throughout the day contributes to future bursitis. I have always said women (especially, but men too) need to have physical therapy as part of the standard postpartum care. We (standard American medical community) wait way too long to attend to ourselves, and then we mostly just treat symptoms. 😔
I totally agree. Post natal Pilates is a great option. There's also several exercises and movements that should be avoided during that season too. An experienced Pilates Instructor can guide you through all those do's and don'ts.
Wow--I had no idea my walking and dancing could be contributing to my Trochanteric bursitis--I thought it was from pressure against the floor, but this makes sense. The hard part will be integrating it into my dance. Was trying to see how far off your back foot peels off the ground. Ten reps on each side is quite a lot, but I imagine there's a lot of re-training involved...
I didn't feel that I moved to the side when walking, and checked it out with a bean pole. If I did it would have been knocked out of me 60 years ago when I did my military training. Which reminded me that only 2 out of 36 young soldiers swayed at all when walking. However it led me to think about gait and the realisation that walking on uneven ground is probably good for me as then differing muscles come into play on each step.
I'm 68 years 'young' and was a reasonably fit and healthy person until 2.5 years ago during our crazy lockdowns here.I started walking more than usual and went a bit too fast too soon and felt this 'ripping pain' go up my left leg. Eventually had an ultrasound which showed trojanteric bursitis, but my physio said it was clear to her id damaged my gluteus medius muscle. It cleared up for a while after i was advised to have a steroid injection which did nothing. Over 2 years later my pain has come back with vengeance. Being unable to go on my walks has greatly affected my quality of life and mental health. Physio exercises were aggravating it and i cant take anti inflammatories forever, they MUST be something that can fix this. So in desperation today i found this site and did a couple of these exercises. Now i will report back in a week then two weeks on here and let others know how i go.. What i need to know from others that have done this exercise is, has your pain level improved and are you walking and getting around more? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you. Very helpful. Could you combine it as a balance practise, lifting the back leg so you are balancing on the front leg. Using the same criteria you mention of organising your body over the standing leg.
New subscriber here! So glad I found you! Love your sweet and helpful spirit .. my pain in on the inside of my hip not the outer side .. and it doesn’t hurt when I walk just when I do certain movements and it almost feels like something catches .. was thinking it has something to do with the psoas muscle .. not sure .. any thoughts? And thank you again for all that you do and how well you explain things I truly appreciate it God bless
arthritis refers to inflammation of joint. A bursa is a fluid filled sac around joints which reduce friction and act as shock absorber like an airbag for car. A bursitis refers to inflammation of bursa
Would you advise practicing this correct gait in a warm water pool if pain is too intense full weight bearing currently? With the aim to practice on land wheb able of course.
thank you for sharing. I have calcification on my right glute tendon, which has been an issue for almost 3 years now. I do weight training to build up my glute strength and size. But I still have the issue. Any tips?
do you also have trochanteric bursitis? calcification usually develops in response to repeated stress (friction, compression). The first thing you want to know is how you're repeated stressing the area during your daily movements including walking, then you want to retrain movement patterns in order to reduce stress to the area. The video addresses gait pattern that leads to bursitis.
this video is relevant to that. Becoming aware of your gait patterns by slowing down your walking is a first step, then retraining your gait patterns so you can reduce friction of IT band.
I think I have both bursitis and sciatica. I first started walking wrong after toe injury and resulting knee damage. Then I stopped moving at all and developed sciatica as well. Coming back slowly. Starting to walk normally again. Only massage or diazepam reduces sciatica pain. Starting to workout again to correct muscular imbalance. Abs are much weaker than back muscles in my case.
I don't know if I have bursitis or not. I have lower back pain and pain in my right hip. The strange thing is that the hip pain sometimes is in my groin and sometimes on the outside of the hip. Any thoughts on diagnosis?
I tried it after a decade of hip bursitis. This week it hasn't been hurting!!!
So much for feeling that 18 months is far too long!
Eu também estou tentando, e está funcionando.
My Dr said the way I walk could be the cause, but w/no specifics.this is so helpful

Are you bending the forward leg during the 10 seconds?
My chiropractor gave me a lift for my right shoe as my right hip was a centimeter lower than my left. Could this have started my left hip bursitis?
Can Bursitis also be related to sciatica pain?
Compensated movement patterns that contribute to bursa irritation can possibly contribute to sciatic nerve irritation.
