- My summer holidays have well and truly begun - welcome to the Caribbean island of Barbados! It’s my first time here and I’m staying at the Southern Palms Beach Club on Dover Beach, St Lawrence Gap. Tour this resort and beach front with me; I’ll give you lots of tips about getting the most from this resort and the area, including where to eat out if you want to save some cash. Should you travel here in the summer months? Well, find out how the weather treated me at the end of July! And then there’s the marine life - yes, swimming with turtles! And then there’s sargassum: oh my goodness, this was a whole new world I learned about.

I really enjoyed that Jamie. So pleased you had a great stay. We’ve stayed at Southern Palms a couple of times and we love it. It’s clean, comfortable and the staff are wonderful. We love the food there too. Very homely and cooked to perfection. I would thoroughly recommend staying at Southern Palms if you want to stay in the St Lawrence Gap area of Barbados in the South of the Island xx

Glad to see you enjoyed Barbados and especially Southern Palms. As a frequent visitor to the hotel I was going to blast you for your early comments on the food prices at the hotel however nice apology. We have eaten many times at Happy Days but find the hotel better for quality, ambiance (the view alone) and service. Nothing against Happy Days. We are actually headed out February 25 for our 70th visit to the island with the majority at Southern Palms.

I’ve been to Southern Palms over 25 times and yes the food can get a bit costly but overall it’s great. Tip for breakfast get two eggs, sausage and toast and it’s about $11.00USD. Did you get to Daddy’s across from the Dover Sports Field, if not you missed out on authentic Bajan street food.

Hi Jamie:-) It looks gorgeous out there. I've been to Barbados 6 times in my life. I went there again last month from 29 Nov - 11 Dec '22. I stayed at The Sands Hotel for my Mum's 80th birthday and brother-in-law's 51st birthday. I went with my Mum, Sis, Bruv-In-Law, and my youngest nephew. A grand time was had by all 5 of us.

By far the best video I've seen on this hotel. If only I'd seen it before booking my trip. This hotel, Infinity on the Beach, Bougainvillea Barbados & South Gap were on my shortlist. Hopefully I won't regret the choice I made (South Gap).

@@TravelBlogJamie I returned from Barbados this morning & as you asked, I'll share how it went. Sorry for the length ... I mentioned wishing I'd seen this video before choosing South Gap Hotel, but I made the right choice ... All the rooms face either the ocean only or (in my case) the pool & the ocean, so I imagine the view is beautiful no matter the room ... I was worried about my sleep being affected by the St Lawrence Gap nightlife. I could hear noise at times, but it wasn't blaring, so I slept fine. I stayed in room 120, which was on level one (when looking at the hotel from the sea-facing side), directly above the Tropical Mist Restaurant/Bar. (From the hotel's front entrance, my room was on the ground level, the same level as reception) ... The room was modern & had a kitchenette, which came in handy since dining out was costly. (The drop in the British pound didn't help.) ... Speaking of food, there were plenty of options-Reggae Jerk, Chefette, and the abundance of choices at Oistins Fish Fry & along St Lawrence Gap ... Getting around was straightforward. I got from A to B on foot or via ZR vans (which ran regularly). This was one of my best trips. Barbados is one of my favourite places (along with various other countries in the Caribbean).

Goodness me... that looks so gorgeous Jamie. 4 days is not long enough!! I retired on Tuesday and came down with the big C on Wednesday and I would love to be there right now instead of dealing with this.(its just like having a weird cold though.) Thank you for taking me with you. Loved this video. Going to watch it again right now.

Amanda and I luv Barbados. We were there last October. We flew BA club World very good .We have also flown Virgin premium. We stayed at Island Inn a luvly small all inclusive hotel. Would recommend Jamie

Hi Jamie. on an overnight flight what time do you arrive at your destination? How many hours do you loose? How Long does it take your body clock to adjust on such a short holiday? Many thanks.
The overnight flight is from barbado to England - arrived about 9am from memory. My body click didn’t need long
@@TravelBlogJamie Thanks Jamie, just trying to decide if long haul is an option. I have an electric chair that won't fold and use a CPAP machine due to respiratory failure. Mot sure if sleep deprivation is taking a risk too far. Thanks for your patience answering my questions🙂
