- In our ongoing effort to review more Irish whiskeys, we take a look at this uncommon example of an Irish single malt. Also some discussion on the many divergent forms of Irish whiskey compared to the simplicity of Scotch.
"Ooh dear, Dave's gone off". Possibly the greatest line in RUclips whiskey review history.
Here's the explanation about the Cooley/Teeling thing. It was actually the Teeling family (John Teeling, that is) who founded the Cooley Distillery. (In fact, they converted a previously existing industrial alcohol plant to a whisk(e)y distillery between 1987-1989.) Then, in December 2011, the Teeling family sold Cooley to Beam Suntory; an important part of the deal was that the Teelings got to retain ownership of a lion share of the stock. With this ex-Cooley stock (distilled and matured by John Teeling & co.) in possesion, John's sons, Jack and Stephen Teeling launched the "Teeling" brand in 2012, and with the money from the sale of Cooley they went on to construct and open the Teeling Distillery in Dublin in 2015. So, this juice you're tasting in this video is from that stock, whisk(e)y distilled by the Teelings while they owned Cooley. At some point, methinks, this will be replaced by the new, Dublin juice.
It's good to hear that there's a tangible connection between the brands. We should be seeing whiskey from the Dublin distillery within the next few years and it will make an interesting comparison.
Thank you for sharing always in a professional way to go through! And additional love it to be sure, that you love the cat too😁
Greetings from old 🇩🇪
I struggle to get into Irish Whiskey. I had a sampler pack of three Teeling expressions, and all were good, but none justified the cost. Whenever I see a bottle of Irish Whiskey, I pass it over for Scotch or Bourbon as I see better value there. All the best to Teeling though!
Sybil was just giving her two bits! I think she prefers bourbon.
I haven't had time to listen to you guys much lately but had to peek in for Teeling SM. What year of bottling was this ? I tried a 2015 bottling so far which still had older contents of casks in it. I was divided about it because even though this Irish style isn't really mine, I still found it brilliant - if overly sweet for - the first few weeks, but after a month or 6 weeks after opening the content seemed to take a serious nose dive and I ended up using the rest as eggnog, where it excelled ! I wonder how that can be.
@Jason Voorheese What do you mean ?
@Jason Voorheese I had the strong sense of light powder sugar. Take a listen on the video I did on it as long as it's still up: ruclips.net/video/zqLAOBWNeZI/видео.html
That bottle has long gone into the recycling so I can't check to be absolutely sure, but it was very likely a 2017 bottling.
Great review guys. I really enjoyed this till I got half way through the bottle then I really struggled to finish it. Not sure why really. Good but not great for me.
I've had writers tears years ago (choose it cause I was reading james joyce) and remember liking it, but at the moment I'm drinking the one in question...and it's the best Irish whisky I've ever had
Missed you guys
Love this whiskey. Cheers
Stop the snobbery
Its a very popular and good Whiskey
Every ones taste is different
Sounds like Coolie is the MGP of the Irish whisky world.
Lads learn the history of Ireland before commenting on British or protestant as you did. Kinda insulting tbh
You could have just not mentioned anything to do with politics or religion
That cat cannot be trusted. Watch your back.
Begone, cat.
Are you two having a laugh its not a sweet shop
