    This raid setup sounds great for windows sever installation ie two disks mirrored for OS and remaining three for raid 5 for data.
    What is recommended raid setup for esxi installation. Obviously we can use internal USB flash to boot esxi server and 3 drives for raid 5.

    • @MyPlayHouse

      ESXi does not do much software raid,, so any safety and performances comes from the raid controller.

    "Box 3" states for Internal cage number free :) Becasue this 24 Small Form Factor cage server version can have 4 sections. 3 available from face (3 sections containing 8-disk bays) and 1 rear section (for 2x SFF). So in your case - right section is called "box 3" :)
    and ADG - states for Advanced Data Guard
    And I would suggest to boot from SSDs (as a target for OS) ;) And make them as RAID-6 ADG than RAID-5 + spare. Almost identicall performance but twice as much security. In the same time 2 disks can fail. But in fact SSDs are not good for RAID-5 or RAID-6. Should be mirrored RAID-0. So => RAID-10.

I want to ask you about a problem I encountered on the HPE dl380 Gen9 server I was trying to repair a 960gb SAS SSD I succeeded in resetting the server machine, the server hung, I restarted the server and rebooted it The server light changed from green to the red color under the power button What is the problem and what is the solution Likewise, when the hard disks are installed in the server, the indicator light is in a bag and does not appear in the server’s storage to create a message that I imagined and will send to you. When I remove the hard disk and reinstall it, it turns green A message appears that it will expire after 56 days His machine is 95.5%, meaning he only uses 3.5% of the total What is the solution that pleases me?

    Hi Morten, do you or anyone who watch your videos know what the max hard drive size is for an HP MSA60?
    I'm trying to reduce my power usage. I have 4 MSA60s full of 4, 5, & 6TB hard drives. As anyone can image my electricity bill is as much as my house payment during the Summer. That's not sustainable for a home tinkerer!
    Today the 3rd 18TB drive arrived and works perfectly connected to the on board SATA controller of HP Z420 & Z440. What's the best way to connect 9 of them externally? An external case for single drive works for sneaker netting but I will never use USB external cases ever again! The most unreliable and irretating method for over 120TB of 4TB drive storage.

    • @MyPlayHouse
      @MyPlayHouse  2 года назад +1

      I do not know what the max disk size is on the HP MSA60,, I am surprised that you can use 6TB,, as I found some that claimed that 1,8TB was max. There could be a differences between SAS and SATA,, maybe..

    • @TerryMundy
      @TerryMundy 2 года назад +1

      @@MyPlayHouse I have 8TB drives running in it also. I wish there were a way to send you screen shots. Maybe controller and firmware all make a difference. When I inserted the 18TB the MSA60 froze. Ended up pulling the 18TB drive then plug the 6TB back in.
      I'm not a fan of USB external. That will probably be the way I have to go short term until I find an external hard drive case that can handle x8 Seagate 18TB hard drives.
      Perhaps a cost analysis comparison between keeping what I have and investing in solar will reveal a better result.
      Anyone have ideas?

    @My PlayHouse More than desperate. After moving 8,000 miles while bringing our server in a container and the back-up in our luggage, we arrived to have NOTHING. The server CMOS battery appeared to be "deceased," but after replacing it the system cannot find the operating system. (RAID V 4 drives) We have no idea where to go for help, people here are not exactly "technologically savvy," so we are concerned about someone making it impossible to recover when, perhaps, right now it is possible. Not your "PlayHouse," but again, we really are DESPERATE...

      All information about the array is on the drives,, all data is there,, CMOS battery only feeds the bios,, My best guess will be that you need to check the boot order, make sure the server is trying to boot on the right array.

      @@MyPlayHouse Thank you very much. There was a setting to change to RAID, and we have set the boot order, but no joy so far.
