We deal with trauma our own way. Joe came back to confront it after not getting a real fight from underground matches. He wanders some more and finally comes back to Danpei Nishi and all of Namidabashi. Joe faces his trauma some more after a streak of losses after refusing to throw hits to the face. The depression hasn’t entirely left Joe but right here he decides to climb that hill.
Going from the first series to the second was such an insane experience. That first episode sticks with me, art direction, soundtrack. It keeps the spirit of the original but it elevates it to a new heights i didn't think were possible from an already 10/10 series. What a masterpiece.
Pretty much what everyone experienced. This is the only show I have watched that is directed by Osamu Dezaki but I could tell I was watching the height of his career and art expression.
This scene is so simple yet beatiful, the way joe start shadow boxing and his bag interrupt him, and then with a smile put it back on. It may be a little analogy of the baggage we all must carry, but that cant stop us, to do what we lov, you put on your baggage and keep moving foward..

He talks that "it's time to go back" right? This is the beginning of the second season. Between the first and the second seasons there was a 8 year gap, so it was time for the story to go back. People were waiting to see it animated.
Ngl, coming back to this after having finished watching s2, it hits hard man. The music, animation, the story, and simply the pure passion were so powerful that the entire time, i simply just cried. This anime was able to make me laugh, cry, jump from my seat, i mean, this was a rollercoaster. All the openings and especially the first ending were beautiful. Imma spoil a bit so for those who haven’t watched it, read at your own risk. SPOILER: I was watching this with my brother and there was this one scene when Carlos Rivera comes back after he disappeared and had suffered brain damage after his fight with Jose Mendoza. Joe realizes who he is and brings him to his locker room. That scene when Carlos starts hitting Joe, and Joe realizes how weak his punches have become compared to his past life and seeing how he had just become an empty shell of who he was as he starts to cry and break down. THAT scene broke me, and my brother at the same time and the tears just fell off man. Seeing such a strong man getting reduced to that state in a single fight was too much. All this to say that this anime has by far earned a spot in my top tier of anime list and is very underrated and deserves more recognition. More people need to watch this show.
