Steve Carrell is a gift to humanity. My favorite scene from him was in Bruce Almighty when Jim Carrey had him reading the teleprompter and making crazy sounds. I was in the movie theater and laughed so hard I spit my drink out on the person sitting in front of me.
That's what I'm saying. His scene in Bruce Almighty is hands down the most funniest Steve Carrell moment. I cracked up for hours after watching that scene.

I love what the cast did for him. Doing that song was so good. It looked so real, I’m glad it wasn’t scripted.

Some people can really sell written lines. But I'm always more impressed to learn when someone just rolls with a character and creates comedy gold right then and there.

Me: you can tell it was ad-libbed cuz he sounded so unsure as to why it was called times square
You can even see him kind of shrug and shake his head at the cameraman after he says it, like he knew it sounded stupid.
I felt so bad for Steve Carrell when he actually got that chest wax in “The 40 Year Old Virgin.”😣I also laughed pretty hard too.🤣

No, the only way to do a quality ad-lib is to understand the script completely.
thats not true. Like with the office, they would first shoot the scripted scene and then Steve was the first one who could start with improv. those takes were often funnier so they stayed in. But he did care about the script!

The "Kelly Clarkson" line was not an adlib. Seth Rogan had to write a dirty version and a clean version of things that Carrell had to tell out.

Also, there was a brilliant Daily Show piece he did with John McCain on his campaign bus where he finally asks a legitimate and complex political question of McCain who just stares at him blankly and then Carrel laughs and says “it’s okay I don’t know what any of that means…” but that could have been scripted
