  • Building a new frame for my bicycle trailer to replace the very thin-walled futon frame tubing I originally used. If anybody still needed inspiration to buy a welder after the last video, here it is.

Yes I am a welder and your right, so much easier with an arc welder. But then since I'm Mister big shot welder. There's a lot of that too, so for a small camp trailer. Still a lot of welding.

Nice hack; very resourceful. For all us without the cool machine tools you possess (envy, envy) spacers can be store bought on the cheap at a hardware store. In fact one can get a length of tubing the right diameter and cut 'em down to the right length. And would nylon spacers work as well?

Excellent! that server rack stuff is pretty decent! you could've put the cross bars on the top of the bottom web of the server rack and the diagonals directly under that bottom web. that way the server rack would act as sides and ever so slightly lower your centre of gravity. But hey, as it is a no weld, it is basically just a big meccano set and you can reconfigure it as you like. As for fenders , the bottom few inches off a big plastic tub, or barrel cut in half would act as full on wheel defenders. But hey, I am not criticising! I need to put my money where my mouth is. I made a single wheel bicycle trailer out of an ironing board. Haven't used it in years since I started using a large box cargo bike. I should post some more videos on those items. As for welding alu to steel, maybe there is a brazing option?

Thanks Boots, yeah I could've done that, but after the old frame, I wanted to make this one as rigid as possible.

@@greensnmachines Indeed, and I meant no criticism!

Welding aluminum to steel is next to impossible for the average joe like us. Mild steel melts at about 2,100 deg. F while aluminum gets there at about 660 degrees. By the time the steel is hot enough to join anything the aluminum will have vaporized long before. I guess the solution would be nuts and bolts.

@@fotoagogo I think welding steel to al is impossible. It might be possible to braze or silver solder, maybe.

Buying welder is a hell of lot cheaper than buying a mill and lathe 😂👍

I think you should have bolted the cross sections on the UNDERNEATH side lip of the 2 large side pieces so they would be flush with the upper surface of the side pieces.

    Maybe use j&b weld

Bro your fenders dont cover the tires

So I have to buy a milling machine, a lathe machine and god knows what else just to make a weldless trailer. Would be cheaper to buy a small welder.

Should have put you slats on the inside of the server rack channel.
