    Chill out people the ferret wasn't hurt. This bath time was completely supervised the entire time, like every bath time should be. Even if the water was deeper than he could touch the ferret was just fine. I'm sure it wasn't a long swim and ferrets and weasels swim in deeper water than this in the water when they cross streams and the such. This little guy was fine.

    this is a great video, very educational I think. Seems that many of my fellow viewers don't understand that if the water had been shallower your ferret wouldn't be able to swim. Just like with teaching babies how to float, you don't put them in water that they could sit up in, there needs to be enough space to submerge to encourage them to swim on their own. Thanks for this! he's a cutie.

      A ferret doesn't need to swim. What you saw was, unfortunately, panic swimming. If you were planted into the big sea randomly by a giant, you would win for your life, wouldn't you?

      @@andrewritchie5840 not every ferret is gonna like swimming. Some love it while some would rather splash in a shallow amount. But it’s a useful thing for them to know and experience. They naturally learn from their parents. But this is all this one has.

I do this with my ferrets all the time. Yes at first they freaked put but eventually they calm down and get used to it....just like a dog would do when they first get a bath. And I'm pretty sure he wouldn't let his ferret die. Wow people calm your tits.

      Earthling1984 I love your videos and your ferret is very cute! I read your conversation with Sarah Raposo and you have been a vet. Gosh, she needs to calm down! Like when a baby first has a bath it might cry a bit but then it gets used to it. Like when you first go into the sea at the beach it's a bit cold but then you get used to it. The only reason it was trying to get out was because he was used to the water yet. Just ignore what the people are saying about the water being to deep, they're talking rubbish :)

    I think while ferrets are natural swimmers and it's ok for them to be in shallow waters. A stand maybe should have been put in? Let's say if they are just too tired to swim or do not want to? So at least they could have stood on the stand and chose when they felt like swimming and when they don't? It really felt like the ferret(while not stressed or panicked) did not want to swim and just had to swim so that it can keep its head above water. It didn't look enjoyable at all. Instead of constantly forcing them to swim when they might not want to. I think just like humans, animals will have times when they want to swim and when they don't.

Ferretts are naturaly good swimmers all ferretts try to swim to the edge to get out because they want to jump back in its their nature not torture... if you are going to make statements about doing research before buying a ferret possibly do a little of your own before hand ferrets love to stick their head under water and blow bubbles so him going under water is not bad

    Earthling1984 If you make videos about animals (obviously because you love it and you wanna educate people on how to... etc), don't ever answser to people who comment about abuse.
    You'll start meeting people who think their pet is a human beeing and treat them as such (they do not understand it doesnt work like this, it can do more wrong than good in fact), but it's in their heads!
    Simple example : in your video about "what you should know about ferrets", when you grab your ferret by the neck (even though it works like that in the wild to educate etc), some people will cry out you're hurting your animal.
    So please don't mind these people and keep making educational videos, I'm about to be a rat owner in 4 to 5 weeks and I would be totally lost without these type of tutorials. Thanks again, cheers and I luv you channel (even though you have a ferret and i'll have a rat :p). Peace!

    This is probably not be the best way to introduce a baby ferret to water. He looked kind of frightened and might connect water with fear in the future. It wasn't all bad because you did supervise him and pick him up pretty regularly but I suggest that next time you should be in the water with the ferret so he has something to climb on if needed. It's just a personal thought but I could imagen that being in a big white tank filled with something wet and new might be a bit scary. Btw the little fella is adorable

      So, if I throw a child who is a weak swimmer in the 10ft end of a swimming pool, and they manage to swim even though they are clearly struggling, that's ok right? That ferret was clearly panicking, and I know a baby ferret is not a human child, but that's still just as fucked up.

    • @xxmakedamnsure8
      @xxmakedamnsure8 10 лет назад +1

      earthling1984 Also, instead of just throwing a ferret in water that's way over it's head, aren't you supposed to fill the bath tub so that there is a deep and shallow end, like a swimming pool? That way the poor thing won't panic. If the ferret feels uncomfortable it can go towards the shallow end of the tub. That's what I've been told by vets and have read in books about caring for ferrets. I'm not sure what your credentials are, but I would hope you didn't just make a video based on what you think is ok without doing research first. I'm not saying you're wrong wanting to get your ferret accustomed to swimming, but I think you're going about it the wrong way.

    I have a few questions about ferrets, I want to buy a ferret. I've always loved the animal, I love their playfulness and how they have their own little personality. But my questions are, should I get two of them? I know they get bored and I want her to have a play mate. If so, should I get a boy and a girl or just two girls? Or does it really not matter what gender? Also I see different color patterns of ferrets. I particularly like the color your ferret is. What color is your ferret referred to as?

    • @crystalcradlenursery
      @crystalcradlenursery 10 лет назад

      I have 3 girls, the bummer thing is is if they aren't de-sexed which I don't think it's possible for girl one the girls need jabs every half a year I think , sometimes they can be in season more than once a half year, and depending on which vet you go too they can be quiet pricey. But overall they make great pets 😀

    • @sannedieseltje
      @sannedieseltje 10 лет назад

      Unless you have enough time to play with your ferret, you will want two of them. They still need human attention, but at least they can release their energy on each other. Gender doesn't really matter, but they really should be neutered/spayed if you're not going to breed with them. Females can get very sick and males tend to smell really badly when they aren't neutered.
      I have a female ferret right now, spayed. And next week, I'm getting her a male pup as a buddy :)
      The color pattern Shawn has is called Sable.

    I disagree with this video. I've gone through the comments and it's pretty bad reading through these comments from so called 'experienced' ferret owners suggesting this is perfectly fine. You are putting an animal in deep water for the first time without any means of it climbing on something when it wants to take a break. How many people tried this after watching your video? Someone with a small amount of common sense wouldn't do this.

    • @Cam-es1or

      Not sure if you noticed him picking the ferret up? Also, how the hell else do you expect anything to learn to swim if you're constantly giving them support, they need to splash about first before they really learn, like a child would, and for a first timer it didn't seem completely out of its element.

    • @yuhyuhyuhyuhyuhyuyhuyhuy8122
      @yuhyuhyuhyuhyuhyuyhuyhuy8122 4 года назад +1

      Thank you! People are just such brainless followers, they literally cannot use two brain cells to see the ferret trying multiple times to leave the water. If they don’t want to be in it, they shouldn’t have to. They don’t **need** to swim if they’re domestic.

    • @JessyPooh313
      @JessyPooh313 2 года назад

      Why would a domesticated ferret need to swim, genius???? The only reason he kept picking it up was to put it back on the other end of the tub and force it to swim back to him. I hope you don’t have animals.

    That was supposed to be quotation marks not random numbers sorry not sure why it did that.. i owned two at one point it is perfectly fine to get only one though having two is better for them they like to play a lot and without a companion you have to make sure to give them lots of attention they really are not that hard to maintain if you take the time and put in the effort to learn what is and is not needed for them
