re-808 by dinsync is a tr808 with the same circuit and you just have to source & buy components and solder them :-) also case available, same dimension ! i assembled one and i'm very happy

Is the tuning knob for kick drum a "course tune" so that it jumps in chromatic steps?

I love this plugin but to be honest the functionality really needs to be extended, with tighter more access to pitch curves and modulation capabilities, like some kind of modulation matrix, or modulation sequencer or motion recording. Its a struggle to get the kick for example to cut through the mix, so I think you need to have something to solve this problem, perhaps amp decay curve control, pitch sweep control of the kick and so on.

Exactly this.....samplers/other drum machines definitely broadened the 808s possibilities with simple things like pitch etc.
