I've always wondered why Arle is on the cover for this game. She was in the MSX original but not the FDS version and this Famicom port didn't add her to the game. Maybe they just wanted to attract interest since the Sega version was out already. Oh well at least the art is pretty unique for her. Never seen that style of her in any Madou or Puyo game artwork to my memory.
Puyo Puyo is one of my personal favourite when it comes to the puzzle genre. I believed the first time I heard about the series was the Kirby's Avalanche reskin of the Super Famicom release and it was really fun. This Famicom version... not so much, it's a bit outdated for the time, but it is still historically important.
This was just a cheap way to get people who were excited about Puyo Puyo to nab this bare-bones 1991 FDS version. I think most people would rather play Kirby's Avalanche or Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
Apparently, Madou Monogatari 4 (Puyo Puyo is a spin-off of Madou Monogatari) is in the works. Guess they're going to go back to their roots, as opposed to that one game that came out in the West. As for Puyo Puyo - well, good to see they found success with this franchise, at least. It can be fun every now and then.
@@thomasffrench3639 Yeah, they're all dungeon crawlers pretty much, besides the Saturn game that's a more typical JRPG and the new one (Sorcery Saga) that's a roguelite. All the major characters in Puyo Puyo come from that series. Of course, none of the early games came out in the West, even though each of them had at least a few ports. They're probably fan-translated though, since the fans seem to like them quite a lot. The PC ports have some violence from what I've seen (typical for old Japanese PC games).
Considering I detest the cheap AI of this franchise, this is one of my favorite versions of the game since you're not forced to battle the CPU. If there is a SFC, GB, N64 version that works as an endless mode game let me know. This game is just as solid as other era releases.
I play this version of puyo puyo often (yes I own an actual copy). I like its music and I think it has a better practice mode than the Mega Drive Puyo Puyo since you can disable the powerups + more visible puyos.
PCE-mania. Don’t worry dude, you don’t have to do that to yourself, making 1+ videos daily for 1000 days straight is enough (plus however long disk daily takes)
I've always wanted to be good at puyo but I just can't get the hang of the chain combos. always been more of a tetris fanatic. and I'd absolutely believe there were 150 versions of the game! and I thought tetris really got out there.
This game is kinda poopy. Playing it after having played the arcade version is a huge downgrade. Seriously, why are there light and dark green blobs? Couldn't they use ANOTHER COLOR?

Something is wrong when someone else did Puyo Puyo better than Puyo Puyo did Puyo Puyo.
This is so scaled back that it belonged on FDS. There was no excuse not to expand the cartridge version.

I like the Gundam Puyo game on GBA where the puyo are Haro.

This game franchise is huge in Asia. Tetris is small change in comparison to this old baby.
