For now. They first need need to do NSMB Switch or something, because players would don't buy game like that because they can recreate this in maker 3.

Looking back, the Mario Maker 1 shaking mechanic is really clunky. And why would a Thwomp become a skewer?

to smash from above, and the skewer does more or less that (tries to hit Mario in a specific direction), but you can turn him sideways

This is a great update! Nintendo really hit a homerun with Mario Maker. My experiences with Mario Maker are shaping up to make this one of my all time favorite video games. Excellent job Nintendo!

I love all the updates they're adding to Mario Maker! Slopes & Water/Lava tiles are next on my wishlist.

So excited for this coming update. In my opinion, a great update for the future would be the addition of mystery switches that could spawn/destroy blocks and coins when activated.

+Pac2King I imagine levels having like 50 enemies on screen, and only 1 (or 8) of them have keys. It'll be a nightmare trying to kill all of them... Or better yet, hundreds of blocks, but only 1(or 8) of them have keys... Oh what a joy it'll be...

There's still quite a lot I'm really hoping to see added, though. Things like:
*SMB3, SMW and NSMB style slopes.
*More power-ups, baddies, bosses and mini-bosses.
*Super Mario Bros. 2 content.
*Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels content.
*The option to switch to Super Mario All-Stars style 16-bit graphics for SMB 1-3 & TLL.

What I really want to see in the next update is Ice Flowers, and the ability to turn Hammer Bros into Fire Bros by giving them a Fire Flower.
It'd be cool if all the power ups had alts you could shake them to, for example turning the Tanooki Suit/Propeller Shroom into the Frog Suit/Penguin Suit
also the acorns!

This update gives me a great idea! I can make an expansive level that is similar in mechanics to Super Mario 64! Just imagine it... going to the same level 8 times, but with a different mission every time! One mission, you're fighting a boss, in the next, you're getting all the red coins, in the next, you have to find the key, and in the next, you're solving a puzzle! This update opens of a lot of new possibilities for level design! :D

Nintendo its almost been 6 months. Please make a new update for SMM.
Sadly, they won't. They'll just port the game for 3DS, and it won't allow you to upload levels online, only locally. =(
It really sucks that they didn't add at least ONE more update to give it a proper farewell like they did with Splatoon and that epic final Splatfest.
They're really desperate to move onto the NX, which won't even be available until next year.

Nice one Nintendo! Keep making this game more awesome! This update added mandatory boss battles! I really wanted that feature and now it's here!The keys and Key Doors will be great for Puzzle levels. The Pink Coins are cool too. They could work like Star Coins! The Spike Pillars will be great for only more difficulty but more atmosphere to the castle and ghost house themes.

Oh god someone is gonna make a level where there are hundreds of enemies and a single one of them has the key so you have to kill every single enemie to find it, that's gonna be painful....

Well, since so many others are doing it, I'll do it too.
Next Update Predictions:
-Shake a Block, it becomes an Unbreakable Variation; these can be placed with wings and tracks, but there's NOTHING to do in order to break them.
Shake a Hammer Bro, it becomes a Boomerang Bro, shake it once more, it becomes a Fire Bro.
-Shake an Ice Block, it becomes a weaker, more transparent variation. You can place enemies and collectibles inside of them, if they're empty, they're grabbable, and can easily melt when having contact with any sort of fire.
-The ability to make a vertical level and adding lava and/or water anywhere.
Please Nintendo.

Loving this, give me the ability to select the background & music separately and add slopes and I'm set. :D Hate you cant choose the song so if you have like an airship level and need the ground the music switches automatically. Would also like multiple kinds of backgrounds so we could have things like airships in a thunderstorm instead of always in the daylight.

Please nintendo add these in Super Mario Maker.
New themes: Desert, beach, jungle, mountains, volcano, snowy place, clouds, vertical castles that are in most of Mario games. (In the beach theme there should be water at the bottom)
New enemies: Koopalings: Iggy, Lemmy, Morton, Wendy, Larry, Roy, Ludwig and Boom Boom, Pokeys that are in the desert, fire bros, boomerang bros and mechakoopas. (the koopaling act same as bowser jr, but instead of spitting fire they shoot fire with their magic wands.
New powerups: mega mushroom, mini mushroom, acorn, iceflower and a penguin suit.
And some other stuff: trees, bushes, slopes, More horizontal building space in levels, shaking a yoshi egg would change the color of the egg and yoshi, shake a pipe so it changes color, also if you give a hammerbro fireflower it turns into a firebro.
Make these as DLC's or updates. DLC ideas: Enemy dlc, theme dlc, powerup dlc, more stuff dlc.
We would love to see some of thes in the future.

+NeedMoreMushrooms Slopes are never going to happen, it would open the game up to too many glitches and break the "Easy to Build" design that it presently has. Only game design experts could actually build glitch-free levels with slopes.

Bring Super Mario bros 2/Doki doki panic content as well, like Shyguy, Snifit, Birdo, Tweeter, Flurry, Phanto etc. Always when I see a key in Mario game I always think about Phanto.
I think they've already got Birdo and Shyguy, but the rest would be pretty cool!

Personally, I prefer placeable water and lava over slopes. Water can make stages even more beautiful, and lava can give us potential volcano levels.
I gotta agree with KoolredfoxPlays. I've been wanting placeable lava for a while now. But the slopes could work like they did in Mario VS Donkey Kong. It worked just fine there.

I wish we could request updates we want directly to them and they'd implement the reasonable items. Such as the sloped terrain so many are asking for. You have think about, though. It wouldn't take much work but they'd have to change the costume sprites in SMB again for sliding, like for swimming.
I'm just waiting for shaking Warp Pipes to change colors to add variety/signify which ones are Exit Pipes. More importantly to me, more blocks and enemies in a main/sub area than it currently allows. Fire Bars, Oneway Panels and the like take up the enemy count.
