Although the turret doesn't work, you can always scatter invisible item frames in front of it and fill them with arrows, or birch buttons labeled as cartridge cases!

For some of the outdoor stuff here, it matters what biome you're in! The fifth project should never be built in snow, nor should it be built in the desert (if you live in Australia, or in the US states of Arizona, New Mexico or Nevada, you'll know why it would make no sense, even though it's not functional). By contrast, the seventh project MUST be built in the desert, particularly if there's already a cactus or two around. If you do the twelfth project, the biome you are in should determine the type of wood you should use.
