Don't screw people over when they can much much worse to you. I've told this story many times before and it's very true. My parents owned a home and property, it was theirs. We had neighbors and our dad would always burn rubbish, mostly wood, in the backyard. So, one day our nosy neighbors who had nothing better to do, called the fire department on my dad. The thing, our city leaders had passed an ordinance against such burning without a permit. Well, what our neighbors didn't know, that ordinance did not apply to private property, it applied to commercial properties, or something to that effect. When the fire department showed up at our home, my dad told them he wasn't doing anything illegal, he was doing a controlled burn and that he was doing this on his property, private property. The FD called the local police department in and he refused THEM entry as well. He showed them the setup and they decided our dad was in the right. But, that wasn't the end of the story. Our dad wasn't doing this every day but he made it a point to stick it to the neighbors and started 'burning" every single day, during the summer and it drove our nosy neighbors insane. No matter what they dad, they couldn't get him to stop, despite our mom trying to get him to stop as well, since they would do an end run around our dad and try to get through to our mom. Our dad was obstinate, an asshole, a redneck and once you piss him off, you might as well give up the fight. IN the end, our dad had the last laugh. He outlasted them all. Eventually, he eased up, after he decided they learned their lesson but THAT was a very interesting summer because everyone in the neighbor found it hilarious and that was back before anyone ever heard of "malicious compliance". There was just a lot of revenge, pro-revenge and nuclear revenge going on.
