Interesting how Winthorpe evolved from such prejudices of a rich socialite to hugging Billy Ray in the end. This after finding out how he's been living with self-centred piranhas his whole life.
Love how the African American cop is cracking up. You can tell he’s legit laughing at Eddie lol guarantee they had to film this scene several times due to Eddie Murphy’s jokes and improvisation 🤣😂
I was with the Green Beret Special Unit Battalion Commando Airborne Tactics Specialists Tactics Unit Battalion, it was real hush-hush. I was Agent Orange, that was my name Agent Orange, Specialist Agent Orange, that was me!
Man do I miss the good old school comedy movies like these. Stuff like "The Great Outdoors", "Christmas Vacation", "Planes Trains and Automobiles". Movies now just don't have that kind of classic funny feel to them. Now you watch them once and really have no desire to see it again.
You know Winthorpe brought all this karma upon himself by assuming that the poor guy who bumped into him wanted to rob him, though he tried giving him back the briefcase and apologizing.
True he had his prejudices for the lower class, similar to the Dukes. But his time with Ophelia, and making peace with Valentine, helped straighten him out.
Pre-9/11 when someone made such claims they were usually laughed at and considered losers. Post-9/11 in the paranoid fear based society people get hung up primarily because of fear. The system which only works because of the people fears for its future. So a sort of gung ho hostility towards anyone or anything perceived rightly or wrongly to threaten it has become the norm. The people of the 80s were not less patriotic but they could take a joke ironically while living with the fear of nuclear war. These days fear and paranoia are actually worse and people cling to their base values because they don't know what to believe anymore.
This film came out 40 years ago, and I’m sure I must have laughed just as hard then, as I did today.. 40 years from now, people will still be laughing..
Hilarious move but in it were a lot of social issues. Funny how after billy ray collided w winthorpe, the butler, who saw the entire thing, attacks valentine even though he was trying to give back the briefcase. Also, the cops on the corner saw it as well, yet they arrested him anyway. A perfect example of how innocent people end up in prison.
Stfu. It's a comedy!!! Just enjoy it as shown, and stop trying to read a bunch of politically correct BS into it. Is everyone so programmed to see everything through a WOKE lens that you can't just laugh at something silly and leave it at that ?.
Another thing that doorman was a sellout he knew damn well it was an accident that Billy bumped into Louis, but at the same time it was the best thing to happen to him cause he got rich and didn’t have to be a con man anymore
To add further comedy to this scene, Eddie Murphy was born in April, 1961 and the Vietnam War ended exactly 14 years later in April, 1975, hence, Murphy would have too young to be in the military at any point of the Vietnam War as it was happening. LOL!!!!

Masterpiece of scriptwriters. Accolades to Eddie!
This scene was probably the most re-enacted one by my gang. We used to laugh so much at the "I have legs" line.
When you say "gang", you mean you and your mum, right?
Interesting how Winthorpe evolved from such prejudices of a rich socialite to hugging Billy Ray in the end. This after finding out how he's been living with self-centred piranhas his whole life.
Good comment,worth a lot more likes.👊
All these rich mfers goin to find out in the end that they can't take all their ill-gotten riches with them....
Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd work so well together in this movie best comedy film
SNL 1st and 2nd generation 😃

Dan Aykroyd is also excellent in this movie!
Especially in The Blues Brothers as well.👍
Fun fact, the doorman is actually Robert earl jones, father of james earl jones
I wonder if his conversational voice is anything like his son's?
Oh wow! Great catch. Thanks.
Woah that’s pretty cool I never knew that
So…technically he’s Luke Skywalker’s grandfather!

Hell yes!! It’s got Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years all rolled up into one fantastic Holiday movie.

Until he stepped on that mine in Viet Cong.
LOL😂😂😂
"Is there a problem officers?" became the catch phrase for a zillion people on film and off.
My personal favourite, "These aren't the droids you're looking for".
Did you get my post deleted?
Yea, but it was a phrase before.
One of the best films ever, love it
So much character to these movies. Love the 80s comedies!

"FIRST MOSES NOW THIS!"
I love this film. It is much more of a comedy for thinking people and not just stupid slap stick for dumb arses.
You know Winthorpe brought all this karma upon himself by assuming that the poor guy who bumped into him wanted to rob him, though he tried giving him back the briefcase and apologizing.
Yeah, hell of an overreaction. You'd think a simple 'Hey! Watch where you're going!!' should have done.
True he had his prejudices for the lower class, similar to the Dukes. But his time with Ophelia, and making peace with Valentine, helped straighten him out.
Now if this happen in Philadelphia today, Winthorpe would have been robbed, beaten and possibly killed for that brief case, by a black at that.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Eddie funny as hell boy
I feel cold watching this scene
Notice how his so call best friends didn't even help 😅

The police were there for him anyways they boxed him in. Not like he was getting away
Also commentary on the Rich and the Wall Street, trading etc.
