For drinks, I add the propel mix to water. Great source of electrolytes and plenty of flavor choices. I have a problem with artificial sweeteners but that works great for me. Love what you're doing here and wife and I are in the process of building our own MRE's.
100% agree on the propel packets. I use those for when I do my long distance runs. Great way to get electrolytes and they taste great without that artificial taste.
I just came back from a little bike adventure where I used my first home made MRE. Found some things to improve (salt, trashbag) but overall it worked out great. Much better than eating clif bars all day.
You made great choices for your MRE. Last year, my brother got me a 12 volt "lunchbox." It works FANTASTIC! Road Pro also has 12-volt ovens and so on. Lighter socket or a rechargeable power station (12 volt, solar). No more expensive fast food/restaurants, we eat hot meals! I got my neighbor one for Christmas- she LOVES it! I also have 12-volt coffee cups for soup packets, coffee, etc. Folgers has instant coffee and hot chocolate and dried soup packets too. I buy them from the clearance racks every time I see them. When I was homeless, a woman gave me nearly 2 dozen of the dinty moore meals. Jerky, bacon jerky, 6 oz cans of meet, small cans veggies, dried fruits, pudding cups, single serving cracker/chips bags, canned soups/stews/chili. There's a wide variety of methods to make grab-and-go MRE bags tailored to everyone's taste.
Dinty Moore is our go to for multiple people camping. we cut up bacon, cook it in the dutch oven over the fire, drain the grease and then add the beef stew. Bacon makes everything taste better! lol! great video as always!
Regarding the freeze dried coffee packets, just a tip: if you can get yourself to a larger Asian Supermarket (here in Southern California we have them just about everywhere). Anyway, they sell large bags (like 100-120 packets and smaller sizes, too) of coffee-dried milk-sugar sachets. I love to get these in my pantry and go bags. I’ve also seen them at Costco Business centers although only one brand rather than a choice of many.
A wholesale foodservice store that is open to the public, like GFS (Gordon Food Service) has lots of fun individually packaged item intended for restaurant, cafeteria, vending, confessions type consumption. Including salt, pepper, salt&pepper, sugar/sweetener, creamer packets, snack like chips & crackers, etc.
@@dadbudgetadventures You can get a small kettle plugged into your lighter socket. Then you will have a dual purpose device - you can boil water for coffee, tea or any instant meal. Or if you open the lid, you can just pour water and stick MRE bag inside and heat it. Yes, it will take some time, there is not much "juice" in lighter socket, but it works 😊
I like how practical you are. Since you mentioned it. I would like to see a video on finding low sodium, low sugar foods from local places like WalMart , Safeway, etc, something accessible , real world. im 70 w/ health issues so healthier items would be nice to know. Thanks
I am diabetic and have a vid on my site that addresses your question. I am going to do a video in a few weeks where I live on the 1-day meal pack I made to see how weak it suits my needs. However, I will heat stuff using hot water and a mini stove.
I had a week once when all I had to eat was a bag of granola and some frozen burritos from Taco Johns. I was living in the back of a pickup truck in the month of November in the mountains and didn't have much money and was waiting for a ride to Denver to start over again. I showed up in Denver with a bike I sold at a pawnshop and a backpack full of clothes.
This is the first time I have tuned in the channel to watched. I didn't you can get know thay had mylar MRE bags. I gave the channel a super like!!! Keep up the awesome work 👌
I just noticed your channel and have enjoyed your content if not I wouldn’t have felt comfortable enough to make the comment of saying Grace before every meal. 🙏
Two videos into this channel and I am hooked. You have an awesome personality and voice, and I love this take on MRE content. Hope to see more from you!
I really like your concept.. it makes soo much sense to make own mre.. Walmart sells bags of ready to eat beans and 60 second pasta too and riced veggies..
A common item I enjoy is tuna or smoked salmon in a pouch envelope. Just add a spoon and any choice of condiments if desired. No refrigeration required. Great for lunches and your"Get Home" bag. 😎👍🏻
When youre in a spot eating an MRE... Almost no food is too bad to put down. A beef stew is something to look forward to at that point. Like the video and subscribed. Thanks for making it.
If you need 3 in 1 coffee packs, the Asian grocery stores always have them. Can you please do a video of you exchanging your homemade MRE to an active soldier to eat while you eat their MRE? That would be fun to watch their reaction! 😁
Instant coffee on a cool to cold am or with chili over the open fire after cutting wood all day is the bomb out in the woods. Great memories from the 80s. On my pre saw days of wood cutting. Still got to have chili and instant joe in my canteen cup. No better meal.
I am one of those people who have to think about lower sodium options. I will look and see if you made a lower sodium MRE, but if you haven't I know there are lots of people who would appreciate that. AWESOME video! Great ideas and great tips!
Subscribed. Good content, you are not just rehashing the same old, same old. You made an excellent point that those little packets of powdered cheese from the pizza place are important. Everything - taco sauce, salt, pepper, all those little packets you have floating around would be an excellent addition to these homemade MREs.
Definitely. The only reason I don’t use them in this series is that I’m trying to stick strictly to the items from the same location. For MREs I would build for storage or an outing would definitely use that.
Just found your channel, after watching this video I have subscribed! Your content is fantastic and definetely doable for people who don't have a clue where to start. I have many of these foods on hand but never thought of an MRE 24 hr pkg. Keep Calm and Carry On! God Bless
Great video! Thought provoking for sure! 1)I love the idea of oiling that awesome bag with instructional video. 2)All the POUCH meals! Never thought of it! Veg ones could become soup! 👍🏻 3) Wisps would be GOOD on chili! 😋
Thank you! All great suggestions. I think I’ll be doing the bag soon but it may take time to produce the video for it but I will certainly document the process.
I’m so glad I came across your channel!!! You are exactly what I’ve been waiting for, straight to the point and straight forward. You do exactly what I do and I get all the same things and that cooking pot container is awesome!!
Enjoyed your channel for awhile now. Thanks for sticking with it. Would love to see you try the entree's without heating them up. Perhaps try half unheated and half heated too see if you would choose that entree again if you didn't have a way to heat it up. Also would like to see a homemade MRE were it wasn't edible straight out of the package. Something using shelf stable items that acutally had to be prepared for the meal. Keep up the great work.
Those are great suggestions! I’ve had a couple viewers ask about eating them unseated but you’re the first to put that particular perspective on it. With that approach it makes more sense rather than just punishing myself 😂. Thanks for being a long time subscriber. Your support means so much!
Doing videos like this is great because lots of people that go through bad storms and they lose power and they need meals this is a great way to show people that there's ways that they can stock up on different things that if anything can eat it cold.. but at least they have food to eat....
That’s exactly why I do this. People hear “MRE” and think I’m talking about the apocalypse. I do this for those short term disasters and times you want to venture into the wild for a couple days. Thanks for the support!
Another winner. You hit on something I have been thinking about with the longer time frame. Also, I found a mock spaghetti at $🌲 made from hearts of palm. Shelf stable for 2 years and ready out of the pack. You can see your progress and growth over the years, and I really dig where you're headed. Did you get the wish list item make it ok?
2/13/2024 This is my first video, from your channel. OUTSTANDING, it deserves more than one thumbs up, REALLY. I like the way you approach your subject matter, straight to the point. You're clear and don't spend a lot of time on unimportant stuff. What is that container that you cooked in? I've never seen anything like it before. Where can I get one? Suggestion; If you saved the Beef Stew container, you could have cooked your dinner, in it, the same way as lunch. Much less clean up. Looking at a days food for less than $10.00 per day, this is livable cost for ONE for a week, just be close to a "Wally World". Once again, great job, I've subscribed, A good bit of binge watching is ahead of me. ;-)
So the cooker is a Barocook Flameless Cooker and they are available on Amazon (link in the description box). Good call on the beef stew container. That’s a great idea. I appreciate your supportive feedback and hope you find lots of content to love.
This was my first video of yours as well and I’m very impressed with your vid, Dad! I got a few excellent ideas for things to choose from. I normally home make everything for my outdoor kits but this gave me plenty of ideas for ready made things. I like the handy yogurt in a pouch, I have seen fruit purées in a pouch in the store as well. Single packs of mixed raw veggies are in most every store. Of course little packages of cheese and crackers or peanut butter and crackers are great to have on hand as a snack. M&M’s don’t melt so I like those. If I make my own trail mix I usually use M&M’s along with dried fruit and sometimes Cheerios or other cereals. Thank you for an awesome video!! You’ve got yourself a new subscription!!👍
Just found your channel, and it is SO timely for me. I've been a fan and consumer of military MREs for decades, but my last three-day trip with them burned me out completely. They're virtually all sugar and salt snack bags. I'll be going back for many of your videos. And you just got a sub due to your very honest disclaimer at the end here. Bravo.
Someone may have mentioned this guideline in one of your previous MRE videos, but I recall a rule-of-thumb from my years in the service about eating MREs in the field or on deployment. If you can’t eat all of the MRE, you should, at a minimum, eat/drink a portion of each of the main MRE components (not counting the accessories packet). The way military MREs are formulated, this rule-of-thumb provides the best well-rounded nutritional intake at any one go. This is especially important if all you’re eating are MREs. As you continue refining the nutritional aspects of your homemade MREs perhaps this could assist as you plan your menus.
I kinda mentioned that concept in passing but haven’t gotten too deep into trying to balance the meals for perfect nutrition. Right now it’s a thought exercise about looking past the basics and getting creative. Once I start building these with more thought and purpose beyond just a one stop shopping thing that will become more important.
I remember when (as a kid) Tasters Choice" came on the market - ~1970, The 1st freeze-dried coffee. Before, everything else was just dried coffee powder. Thanks for the great MRE inspiration Ideas.
Dirty Moore was my family's go-to for weekend camping trips cooked on the Coleman stove we had, or over the fire itself, often with just some buttered bread on the side.
- I have Dinty Moore meals in my desk at work right this second. They were a staple when I worked pipeline. - Low- sodium options would be a great episode, says the guy with high blood pressure. - For drink packets, have you looked at Liquid IV packs? (You may have done that in a different video.) They are what I use daily. Outstanding content and you've got my new subscription.
I’m working with some friends to help me with the low sodium options. It’s not easy to find but I’m working on it. Haven’t tried Liquid IV but I keep hearing about it. Might have to give it a shot.

Bridgford Sweet and Spicy Jerky is my favorite. Fantastic flavor and so soft. I've only been able to find it at Walmart check outs. This MRE is great! You've given me so many good ideas for MREs for my family. Thank you!😊
I really like the Sunkist Orange and Grape Crush drink sticks, really good flavor and no artificial sweetener aftertaste. I also like True Lemon and True Lime which are unsweetened granulated lemon and lime packets, they are super cheap (about $7/100) and one of each in a bottle of water makes a nice, tart drink...or you can add stevia to sweeten it which is really nice also.
I do my own. But I vac pack everything, I have a vacuum pack machine, And I vacuum packed those Dintymore meals and it off shoots. All this looks great. I really like the Crystal lite peach tea. The pickles in the bread and butter pickles chips are outstanding. I’d have to add a little hot sauce😊. Great video my brother.
Thank you so much for posting & sharing this!!! Pop tarts & baby food type squeeze pouches are some of my go to's already when I'm feeling lazy but they really are packed with some vitamins & minerals. My other is usually dry cereal in a sandwich bag bc sometimes I even mix honey nut Cheerios with Golden Grahams or something like that in a pinch. It's nice to have different options & choices, kinda like a buffet. Convenient doesn't have to mean boring & I feel like your video proves that. I am a cheese lover & usually will munch on Goldfish, occasionally using them crumbled up over salad when I don't have shredded cheese so I will have to check out those Whisps. Also the pickles seemed curious & I'm glad you found them too! I also like that you were talking about more evenly heating things using a water bath bc it seems like something everyone might not know too. I really liked how at the end of this video you said you were fat & happy & to prepare for the world as it is kinda thing, great advice!!!

I wish we got the same stuff in our walmart's (and other stores) that you guys get down in the US. The amount of ready to eat single serve items is awesome, i love making little kits like this when i go on fishing trips
This is a great video! A few years ago we built some family size meal packs designed to feed 4 for a week. Not really MREs but based on a similar principle to use stuff that we would actually eat.
I don’t guess it matters if you give it a name the concept is pretty much the same. The idea is to prepare with stuff you know will be eaten. Honestly you don’t even have to apply all my parameters to it, all that is just part of the exercise. Sounds like you had a solid plan!
great video, love the quality of the editing as well! this is definitely something ill have to do myself if im ever out in the field or going on a hike.
I would love some lower sodium options. Also, I'm not sure what kind of changes I would need to make to accomodate diabetes. So, choices are truly important. I am getting so many great ideas from you! I'll eat like this at home as a single 70 yo female on a limited budget. Thank you so very much!! 😁👍
Yes a low sodium MRE would be awesome and another run of MRE s you can do like watching these videos. The MRE ideas are awesome for the person fishing or hunting keep up the great videos
Just subbed, not sure why thia video popped up but I like it. I do homemade MREs often for hiking. Buying a dehydrator was one of my best purchases for this, i would love a freeze dryer but they're so expensive and loud. Do alot of shopping at the dollar store for hiking food stuff. Its cheap and usually a decent serving size, they also have Dinty Moore beef stew.
Something else ive found at Walmart is the Hereford fully cooked Beef taco filing, shredded beef, meatballs with spaghetti sauce. And one other. Something else to look at for a main course.
These are lots of fun to do. I have tolerance issues around sodium and additives so it can get a bit tricky for me but there's a lot more options these days then there used to be . I've found shelf stable milk , precooked rice and Indian food and certain can foods (like the beef stew) that really aren't THAT bad in the ingredients department . I like to toss in a few purification tabs just in case I need to drink found water .
New subscriber here! Thanks for sharing. I never thought of making my own MRE before. Love Dinty Moore beef stew but would definitely be interested in a lower salt MRE.
I just had an idea. If you wanted something like the flavored oatmeal packet for breakfast and needed water that won’t fit in the mre bag. You could use the little emergency water bags that are super small. I’d guess like 4oz and fir coffee as well
Consider adding a cup of Minute Rice in a ziplock with a bouillon packet, a couple of parmesan cheese packets, or any other flavor packs you get from fast food restaurants. The rice reconstitutes to double volume. If you have liquidy food, adding it before heating will make the meal more hardy & sop up the extra liquid. Also can make another meal, like cooked with jerky and a couple of Wisps.
Very well done. I liked that you continue to explore your options. I'd have never thought of the pickles, but I like pickles! They give you some more vitamins and another flavor. Good for morale. I like having more drink pouches and what you don't use you save for another time. I was wondering why I had not seen Pop Tarts yet. Might be a good idea to write on them what flavor they are. This looked like a good model to follow. thanks.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it. This was so fun exploring all the different options and trying new things. Will definitely look into labeling things that aren’t obvious next time.
I'm new to your channel and I really enjoyed this. I can't wait to see more MRE videos from you. I have made them for years myself but today I learned a few things that I'm going to be adding to mine now. Thank you very much 🙂
New sub here. I really enjoyed this video! I do suffer from hypertension, so I would love to see a lower sodium MRE video in the future, but I'm looking forward to catching up on your previous vids, none the less!
My preference is "diet" ginger ale. If you like the flavor of ginger ale in the bubbly soda, it's really not much different in the powdered stick form and is still great if you have some tummy issues. Ginger ale is known for helping soothe the tummy! Also, I love Wyler's diet peach tea powdered sticks. In the morning, because I am not a coffee drinker, I can throw a couple of ice cubes in a 16 oz paper cup, empty the peach tea packet in the cup, then pour water to the brim, stir to make sure it's fully dissolved and I have a great fast cup of iced tea!
You mentioned it and others have commented...Sodium. My take is that if you're digging into an mre it's likely you're also being pretty active which will offset some of the negatives. Alternatively, another way to view offsetting the sodium is to look for foods with high potassium. But I think this might be just a challenging as finding low sodium. It's something I'm going to look at as I explore the idea of making some mres.
True. Hopefully people are ready with more than just a bunch of high sodium processed food. These are intended as a very short term food solution and not a daily strategy for long term survival.
A trip to Walmart is a survival exercise in itself. Glad you made it out alive
It can certainly be that. Every trip is an adventure.

For drinks, I add the propel mix to water. Great source of electrolytes and plenty of flavor choices. I have a problem with artificial sweeteners but that works great for me. Love what you're doing here and wife and I are in the process of building our own MRE's.
That’s a good idea. Any time you can get added benefits out of small packages it’s a good thing! Thank you for the comment and support!
Same with me, either propel or gatorade depending if I can find them on sale or not.
100% agree on the propel packets. I use those for when I do my long distance runs. Great way to get electrolytes and they taste great without that artificial taste.
If needing calories why use anything with artificial sweeteners?
@@wwoodard2440 because most of the small drink sachets use the, so they can make smaller packaging. Therefore that’s what the market is flooded with.
I just came back from a little bike adventure where I used my first home made MRE. Found some things to improve (salt, trashbag) but overall it worked out great. Much better than eating clif bars all day.
Precisely. I can only do so much tuna and protein bars before I get grumpy.
What works really well as an MRE style product is Hormel chili in the can as it is a pop top! It's a good iron and protein boost that you can eat cold
Absolutely. I think I’m going to do a homemade C Ration video soon with all canned goods.
@@dadbudgetadventures oh, that would be awesome, as well!
Snack on the run makes some great canned tuna and chicken with excellent seasonings
Great ideas! I’ve been looking at the 12v lunch boxes as a possibility for a future video. We shall see.
What kind of meet?
Hot sauce !! Hot Sauce !! Adds spice to lots of stuff.
It certainly kicks it up a notch.
Not when you have acid reflux.
Dinty Moore is our go to for multiple people camping. we cut up bacon, cook it in the dutch oven over the fire, drain the grease and then add the beef stew. Bacon makes everything taste better! lol! great video as always!
That sounds amazing 🤤
I add a half pound of hamburger to a can of Dinty Moore Stew plus a little soy sauce
Yes, my Grandmother cooked meat and vegetable in bacon grease. We loved Okra as kids. 😂 What kids like Okra?
"are you a fan of Dinty Moore beef stew, and if not, why are you a monster?"
Chuckled out loud at that. Subscribed.
Thanks! Glad you got a laugh out of that
Regarding the freeze dried coffee packets, just a tip: if you can get yourself to a larger Asian Supermarket (here in Southern California we have them just about everywhere). Anyway, they sell large bags (like 100-120 packets and smaller sizes, too) of coffee-dried milk-sugar sachets. I love to get these in my pantry and go bags. I’ve also seen them at Costco Business centers although only one brand rather than a choice of many.
..oh, and as an example, I’ve purchased bags of 120 sachets for around $13.
I definitely need to find those.
That's where I get them
A wholesale foodservice store that is open to the public, like GFS (Gordon Food Service) has lots of fun individually packaged item intended for restaurant, cafeteria, vending, confessions type consumption. Including salt, pepper, salt&pepper, sugar/sweetener, creamer packets, snack like chips & crackers, etc.
Poptarts are good for morale too
Right? It’s happy and nostalgic food. I’m for it!
Weird timing. I just bought a 16 count box of mixed berry Pop tarts today.
Poptarts are NASTY imo.
They cause hypoglycemia, nothing nutritional in a Pop tart. Just empty calories.
In the military, the trucks had MRE heaters. The civilian version is a truckers version you plug in to lighter socket . A hot water bath .
Been thinking of getting one of those to try out some other methods of preparation.
When I was in the Army the trucks were the MRE heaters lol
@@dadbudgetadventures You can get a small kettle plugged into your lighter socket. Then you will have a dual purpose device - you can boil water for coffee, tea or any instant meal. Or if you open the lid, you can just pour water and stick MRE bag inside and heat it. Yes, it will take some time, there is not much "juice" in lighter socket, but it works 😊
Our MREs came with heaters. You just add water.
I like how practical you are. Since you mentioned it. I would like to see a video on finding low sodium, low sugar foods from local places like WalMart , Safeway, etc, something accessible , real world. im 70 w/ health issues so healthier items would be nice to know. Thanks
Thank you. I’m going to get to work on that.
I am diabetic and have a vid on my site that addresses your question. I am going to do a video in a few weeks where I live on the 1-day meal pack I made to see how weak it suits my needs. However, I will heat stuff using hot water and a mini stove.
I wouldn't probably have thought of the Tasters Choice. Great idea; I love black coffee!
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Definitely recommend
That what you call a real self starter story! Not everyone can say they’ve really had to head out into the world with nothing.
First time I ate Taco Johns was in 1969 at Riverton, WY. Loved the soft tacos.
I'm so glad your video came up on my feed. I really like the 24 hr MRE. Sets you up for an entire day. Thanks so much.
You’re quite welcome. I’m glad you found the video!
I eat a lot of those beef stews while living out my car. Lots of great ideas in this vid!! Thanks for the great content!!!!
Thank you for the support! I’m so glad you’re enjoying it.
Congratulations on your 5000 subscribers. A low sodium MRE would be great. Also a high protein MRE!
Both will be a challenge and won’t likely be a single source meal but I’m going to work on making it happen.

Love the Crystal Light Peach Mango Green Tea. Dinty Moore Beef Stew is really good too.
I had a bad experience with peach flavored stuff when I was a kid and now I can’t stand it. I wish I liked it but I just can’t do it.
Great ideas for military care packages to send to our troops serving in the field. Those crystal light packs for canteen water.
That’s a great idea!
Thanks for all you do, just recently found your channel. I'm a big fan of home-brewed gear and homemade MRE's.

I also agree! Keep up the good work 😊
This is the first time I have tuned in the channel to watched. I didn't you can get know thay had mylar MRE bags. I gave the channel a super like!!! Keep up the awesome work 👌
I’m so glad you found the channel. Welcome!
It’s always a Great habit to get into by saying Grace before every meal.
For sure. Always a good plan.
I just noticed your channel and have enjoyed your content if not I wouldn’t have felt comfortable enough to make the comment of saying Grace before every meal. 🙏
@@TracieHunter-v5p I’m glad I come across approachable enough for you to say that.

Two videos into this channel and I am hooked. You have an awesome personality and voice, and I love this take on MRE content. Hope to see more from you!
Thank you. Your kind words and high praise are greatly appreciated.
I really like your concept.. it makes soo much sense to make own mre.. Walmart sells bags of ready to eat beans and 60 second pasta too and riced veggies..
Absolutely. And building it with stuff you like is key. Make something you actually look forward to eating.
I can't eat beef, so the Jack Links Turkey Jerky is also very tasty. An extra coffee for at night before bed is a nice add-in.
I definitely need to look for some alternative meat jerkys as I’m searching for contents.
Exactly the point. Thank you!
If you need 3 in 1 coffee packs, the Asian grocery stores always have them. Can you please do a video of you exchanging your homemade MRE to an active soldier to eat while you eat their MRE? That would be fun to watch their reaction! 😁
I would totally be down for that if I know someone who could play along.
Good Idea
yes! maybe steve1989mre would!
Instant coffee on a cool to cold am or with chili over the open fire after cutting wood all day is the bomb out in the woods. Great memories from the 80s. On my pre saw days of wood cutting. Still got to have chili and instant joe in my canteen cup. No better meal.
That sounds like a great way to end the day.
I am one of those people who have to think about lower sodium options. I will look and see if you made a lower sodium MRE, but if you haven't I know there are lots of people who would appreciate that. AWESOME video! Great ideas and great tips!
I have looked into it but have not done it yet. Still working on making it happen.
You could add a peanut butter cup for protein with breakfast. 😊
Definitely
This sounds weird but wasn't bad. Put peanut butter & salami on a tortilla, turns into a meal of mostly fat + protein & carbs.
I was thinking that but does it meet the one year life. The oil in peanuts, well all nuts can get rancid.
@@StevenSchutz-p1j yes. My peanut butter has a sell by date of Oct2024, and I bought it a month ago…

I’m so glad I came across your channel!!! You are exactly what I’ve been waiting for, straight to the point and straight forward. You do exactly what I do and I get all the same things and that cooking pot container is awesome!!
Thank you. That’s some high praise.
precooked rice in a pouch would be good.
I’ve done a couple with those. Always a good staple.
Good memories of my Dad and I having Dinty Moore beef stew heated over a fire in our backyard. Not into camping but that was great fun for young me.
Those are the best kinds of memories
It did and thank you so much! I plan to use it in an upcoming vide and give you a proper shout out! Your support is truly appreciated.

This is my first video, from your channel.
Bravo.
Thank you so much. I’m glad you’re here!
The philosophy I'm familiar with is to eat everything but the entree, as the entree is the least dense calorie/nutrient packed
I remember when (as a kid) Tasters Choice" came on the market - ~1970, The 1st freeze-dried coffee. Before, everything else was just dried coffee powder. Thanks for the great MRE inspiration Ideas.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

And so you should 😎
Dirty Moore was my family's go-to for weekend camping trips cooked on the Coleman stove we had, or over the fire itself, often with just some buttered bread on the side.

@@udrinkit from the box - "hydration multiplier electrolyte drink mix." They are typically shelved alongside the Crystal Light and other powdered drink mixes. They are supposed to help you rehydrate faster. No preservatives or artificial flavors/ colors/ sweeteners in the main flavors plus they have a line of sugar-free flavors.
The LIV is great for those who require it daily.
I was thinking I would just drink the water. I am so glad you mentioned the off taste treated water can have. I see now why I would include a drink mix or two.
That’s one very good reason. If you can add a mix with extra vitamins or electrolytes you get some additional benefits
Bridgford Sweet and Spicy Jerky is my favorite. Fantastic flavor and so soft. I've only been able to find it at Walmart check outs.

I have some of the True Lemon for an upcoming video. I’ve had so many recommendations for it I’m gonna have to try it.
I do my own. But I vac pack everything, I have a vacuum pack machine, And I vacuum packed those Dintymore meals and it off shoots. I also added oxygen / moiture eaters...They are good for at least 3 years, I"am sure longer....But once I got my 3 years supply stocked, I begin rotating it, through work, camping, Hiking or during hunting season. By I replace what I used, it is also dated inside a sealed box in a dark space that is cool year round.

Thank you so much for posting & sharing this!!! Pop tarts & baby food type squeeze pouches are some of my go to's already when I'm feeling lazy but they really are packed with some vitamins & minerals. Also the pickles seemed curious & I'm glad you found them too! I wish we got the same stuff in our walmart's (and other stores) that you guys get down in the US. The amount of ready to eat single serve items is awesome, i love making little kits like this when i go on fishing trips
We do have a pretty good selection. It’s always odd to hear that the same company in another country doesn’t carry a lot of the same stuff.
In a pinch you could add a precooked rice or pasta .
I have that coming up Sunday
This is a great video!
A few years ago we built some family size meal packs designed to feed 4 for a week. Not really MREs but based on a similar principle to use stuff that we would actually eat.
I don’t guess it matters if you give it a name the concept is pretty much the same. The idea is to prepare with stuff you know will be eaten. Honestly you don’t even have to apply all my parameters to it, all that is just part of the exercise. Sounds like you had a solid plan!
great video, love the quality of the editing as well! this is definitely something ill have to do myself if im ever out in the field or going on a hike.

I love my dehydrator and the freeze dryers are definitely not for your average citizen. I’m glad you found the channel!
I have a lot of fun with my dehydrator and I agree, I’d love a freeze dryer but they are stupid expensive.
Something else ive found at Walmart is the Hereford fully cooked Beef taco filing, shredded beef, meatballs with spaghetti sauce. And one other. Something else to look at for a main course.
I saw that online but not in the store. The meatballs might or might not be showing up in a video tomorrow.
@@dadbudgetadventures they are a good portion size and high in protein. Fully cooked. I stocked up. Lol
As long as you know your limits and how to address them you can definitely make it work. Sounds like you’ve got it figured out pretty well!
Those Indian food pouches are great! I have also found some South American sofrito ones with beans and lentils.

Glad to have you! Working on the low sodium menu but it is a challenge. Hope to have something soon.
I just had an idea. If you wanted something like the flavored oatmeal packet for breakfast and needed water that won’t fit in the mre bag. You could use the little emergency water bags that are super small. I’d guess like 4oz and fir coffee as well
For sure. The only reason I don’t do that with these is that it’s technically not “ready to eat” but in the real world I’d go that route.
What an awesome video. I never thought of MRE meals but in today’s world it is important.
Thank you. I’m glad it inspired some thought and maybe even some action!
Absolutely LOVE the Crystal Light powder mixes! My favorite is the Lemonade, but I do like the Iced Tea as well.
They make some pretty decent stuff. Lots to choose from and find one that works for you individually.
Slim Jims are a good option to jerky. And they come in single serving packages.
Definitely. I love me some Slim Jims
Great suggestions!

It’s pretty good. The wife likes to add it in with brewed coffee as an extra shot.

This looked like a good model to follow. thanks.

Great suggestions!
New subscriber here, i enjoyed your older videos on taste testing the real MRE's, perhaps you could make more of those.
I will definitely need to do some of those soon.
