    And yes the whole cover reprint thing is a minefield.. for me the prices for those should be based on a disc only price or slightly higher..
    If you come to resell them yourself then no collector is going to pay market value for a reprinted cover.. or I certainly wouldn't...

    Great game pickups there Paul 👍
    I also hate how the CEX game stores in Newcastle have the cover reprinted on the front of the disc game cases particularly if I am looking for a specific game I want to play don't really bother getting it when it has a cover reprinted copy
    Stay safe mate

    • @pixelpaul_pxp
      @pixelpaul_pxp  3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, I mean I don't completely disagree with the doing it, I'd hate some of these games ending up in the bin and landfill, but I do think they just need to be priced fairly, like unboxed cartridge games. I'm sure they'd shift more that way. Thanks for watching mate, appreciate it!

  • @donaldmackerel

    Fair play for leaving a duplicate game at the charity store matey - there's loads of hawkers that would just snaffle the lot then try to resell them.
    Also, I pulled up a member of staff at my local CeX about reprinted covers after he stated that he couldn't accept a French PAL version of a game.
    I then went back to the shelf, found an Italian one, 2 German ones and a Polish one, so I took them to the counter and said they needed to remove them from sale 😂
    The guy looked like I'd pissed on his mum.

      This is where they let themselves down, it's the same with scratched discs, you trade one in and it can have the slightest mark and it's rejected, yet I've bought loads that look like they've been used as coasters.. thanks for watching mate!

    Great pickups! The cover reprints are an issue, I do think they need to up the cctv for this issue and ban customer found stealing the high value cases, but also think as a business in this situation they need to take responsibility and take the hit and sell at a disc/cart only price. It’s not fair on the people buying

    Crackin Video As always Fella,
    Favourite Bit of the video has to be,
    "All... (Checks notes) Mostly all Good games"
    So! Cover Reprints. The bottom Line is that I'm not a fan. Cover Reprints was one of the 1st Negative things I learnt about CEX, back in the days when they just reprinted the covers & didn't put anything on the outside to identify that it was a reprint. You are probably right when you say, the the reasons for more cover reprints is down to thieves half inching the boxes, probably with the hopes of picking up the Disks at a lower price. & then ether flogging them back to CEX for the best Price or selling it privately or Maybe adding it to their own Collection. But I like thing that the latter isn't the case & that the Retro Community are an honest lot.
    ANYWAY!!!!
    Truth is I do think that CEX should drop the price. If they can't sell a 100% original & complete product they shouldn't be expecting to get the top price for it.
    Will they change? probably not until they realise they aren't going to sell them.

      Thanks mate as always, yes, mostly good, Wall.E was an impulse grab lol.
      I'd be interested to know just how many reprints they actually end up selling, especially those high value ones. If you just want the game to play then I guess in some cases it's the only option. I think for us as collectors and preservers of gaming physical media, it's a slap in the face to be charging full price!

    • @KohighMathy
      @KohighMathy 3 месяца назад +1

      @@pixelpaul_pxp yes its probably important to remember that younger Collectors, or Collectors who are just starting out, may well pick up reprinted Covers, but I doubt even Newbies to the Community would pay that much for a Reprint. Maybe some RUclipsrs who can write it off an a business expense ?

    I’m glad they’re labelled but definitely seeing an increase. So feel like I have to double check everything I pick up.
    A cex Locally to me had an incident where I was after 2 games,they had the discs but no case. So I asked will that result in them being sold discounted and they explained no they order in the cover reprints which can take a couple weeks and no budge on price.
    Seems mad. They have a grade system so I feel it would be easy for them to implement reprint prices

    Agree totally about the cover reprint issues but then you got to think about it from their side if they sell it cheaper say 60% less what’s stopping you then going back in another time seeing they have a proper case on the shelf taking that one then hey presto you have a complete copy for 60% less, legitimate collectors/ decent humans wouldn’t do this but unfortunately in this society we have too many people who do and will take advantage

    • @pixelpaul_pxp
      @pixelpaul_pxp  3 месяца назад

      And I think that's the issue they need to sort out, stopping these high value/rare game boxes going out of the door. It's a shame as it's part of the fun of collecting, browsing the shelves but they need to start getting more of these disc games with value, behind the glass cabs. I do see their pov though, and definately rather they do reprints than just binning them, but it's not ideal and the pricing is just not right... thanks for watching mate!

    3:42 Ha ha I'm always shocked by how cheap UK games are compared to their US comparative. Klonoa is way more than the 110 squiggle they sell it over there. Are there any games in Europe that go for more than 380 squiggles? That's around $500 US.

    • @pixelpaul_pxp
      @pixelpaul_pxp  3 месяца назад

      Yeah I think so, some of the obscure ps2 horror games spring to mind, Rule of Rose is nearly 600 over here. Prices on boxed Nintendo stuff is also pretty crazy! Thanks for watching mate!

    • @WhatsOnMyShelf
      @WhatsOnMyShelf 3 месяца назад +1

      @@pixelpaul_pxp I didn't look up prices. I thought of some NES titles that might draw a higher price due to them being released in European but not the US like Banana Prince and Ghostbuters 2 (the one made by HAL). Buyers outside of European countries contribute to the demand for those.
      Rule of Rose is also an expensive game here. I think that and Kuon are the most expensive PS2 games. It's interesting that horror games on PS2 are the most desired. It makes me wonder what those titles will be on the PS3 / 360. With the recent 360 bump, I think we know some of those titles which will climb higher, though probably not before falling in the short term.

    To me it a simple case of CEX prioritising profits over customer service. They are not prepared to take a loss on a game they trade in as complete and pass the loss to the customer. I don't think they can do this without trading in disc only, but can have discounted prices like consoles for a lower price. I think CEX should invest in security tabs for games over a certain amount if they are not behind the glass cases or staff by the door. I have purchased a couple with cover reprinted. Tomb Raider Anniversary for Wii for just two pounds because it was so low a price and DVD Meatloaf Live (my original disc was cracked so I had the case so happy to pay for disc only instead of paying for new at HMV)

    • @pixelpaul_pxp
      @pixelpaul_pxp  3 месяца назад

      Totally get that they are looking to get the max they can fir these games, but I do wonder just how many they do actually sell, which maybe a lot more than I realise, I'm coming from this purely from a collectors pov and I think k most collectors wouldn't consider a reprint at some of the prices. But you are right, it really comes down to them stopping it becoming an issue by putting these games safely out of reach! Thanks for watching!

    Imo, cover reprints should never be more than half the value of a complete version. Even more so if it does or doesn't come with manual. They don't accept trades on disc based games without the case as minimum and most likely don't accept reprinted covers. So why are they cool selling them? I may be wrong but this doesn't seem right

      @pixelpaul_pxp so by that info, that means cex print new covers and sell at full value, yet won't take back those very same games they reprint covers for? That sounds very very wrong to me. I knew they don't take loose discs but if making there own covers means loose discs now have cases and they can seem to sell them for full value, is this not ripping people off?

  • @monkeycrow84

    I would guess from the types of people i see in my locals its mostly crackheads stealing them. Either to sell on, cos its always games worth £20+ they steal or out of spite cos they didnt get the money they wanted for their items. Once saw a woman beg for an extra tenner on a phone who was clearly "not well" and the guy behind the counter just tell her i cant change the price we offer as its set by head office.

    • @pixelpaul_pxp
      @pixelpaul_pxp  3 месяца назад

      Yeah, like I said too, it's mainly high value games which are reprinted too. They either need to move these games into cabs like the retro stuff, and/or they have to match the boxed /unboxed policy, it just makes no sense! Thanks for watching, mate!

  • @dirtyshubb
    @dirtyshubb 3 месяца назад +1

    I assume the issue with stolen cases is that collectors or resellers are stealing them to complete their disc only version so they then have a CIB version they can either keep or sell for more money.
    I personally want them to at the very minimum, list them differently on the system (disc only, disc and case, disc and case and manual).
    The fact they don't do that means I simply won't order online. I'm currently collecting for PS3 (318 currently) and I'm not wasting my time and money ordering a game online for it only to be missing the case and/or manual.

    • @pixelpaul_pxp
      @pixelpaul_pxp  3 месяца назад +1

      Same, I very rarely order online from cex, the very fact the term 'cex lottery' is used to often by gamers shows how poor it is, and they should at least be looking to improve that, it shouldn't be a lottery! Thanks for watching mate!
