This was the panel I hosted on 08/09/2020 at UPLINK, an all digital expo by the Long Island Retro Gaming community. This year I've decided to show off some cool 3D games from the first decade of IBM PC. Lots and lots of technically impressive stuff there. Join me on this journey into the third dimension!

I loved Stunts. I remember watching replays of my car flying 100 meters in the air! Now that game is real nostalgia for me.
I don't think there was a DOS game that stayed with me for as long as Stunts. From my days with EGA+PC speaker all the way to VGA+Soundblaster in DOS and well into the Windows era, I'd been building tracks, racing them and watching replays of the opponents tripping up in jumps, loops and corkscrews. By the time I found out there was an online replay racing community for Stunts, I'd already moved on, but it's still a shame that none of the remakes and successors were ever able to get even close to what the original Stunts / 4D Sports Driving game was.
Hi, I m the 2019 Stunts World Champion, you can join a nice Stunts community on zakstunts.hu
Nice breakdown. Another pretty cool one for its time is Corporation.
This is a great presentation, I was born in 1990 but my first PCs were old 80's machines with dos games on floppy discs, good times
A lot people think that 3D on PC started with Wolfenstein or Doom, but there was so much more before them. Thanks for sharing this video!
where is BLOCKOUT (1989), top down 3d tetris game for DOS .
here link to game info and cover and screenshot can be found there too:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blockout
Крутой канал мужик,интересно глянуть,тот период мимо прошел и даже досбокс не спасает
27:58 I remember when my Primary School got an Acorn Archimedes, we all wanted to try Lander(basically a demo version of Virus/Zarch) I remember if you even moved the mouse to tilt the craft while it was on the landing pad it would immediately explode. As I recall the 3 button mouse used 1 button to fire, another button for thrust, and the third for a faster/more intense thrust.
I helped Firebird get Elite into the U.S. market! Good times! Games were a lot more sophisticated back then because you had to have a decent IQ to be able to use the early PC's.
I played Stunts a lot when I was a kind. I was very skilled in the game, I tried it a few years ago. Total noob, all skills gone...
I'm working on a RUclips tutorial for The Assembly Line's "Cybercon III" 1991. Interphase looks wild! Great collection here very informative!
Wibarm is another interesting 2d/3d game from the 80s that was ported from the pc-88
Очень круто, всё приобрело стиль, особый dos style review, а настроение увлечённого искусством видео игр ПК гика - 💯+1% bullseye!
Stunts, LHX, F117A nighthawk, Indy 500, 4D boxing ones I remember the most
This is such an awesome topic to cover. Thanks!
Thought I recognized your face. I watched your let's play of "Mindwalker." Great stuff!
Oh man, those 3D Construction Kit games. I never played them much, because they ran so slow on my Amiga. Now I would like to try out the actual editor and recreate Doom's E1M1 or something.
No mention of Carrier Command? How dare you!
Great video. My first games were DOS games on a 486 but I was unfamiliar with a lot of these. I feel like the history of DOS games is somehow underrepresented on RUclips. I enjoy your matter-of-fact/laid back presentation style as well. Please continue making these.
Total Eclipse.
Чуть позже уже на XTшке с EGA очень нравилась Death Track, гонки с оружием и апгрейдом автомобилей.
Check out space rogue!
Thanx, Anatoly, I've already discovered hundreds of DOS games, and all this thanks to you. Best retrogame channel on RUclips
I did own Alternate Reality for the Atari 800XL in the day. Had no PC as our family couldn't afford one, so we had the Atari as mentioned, and a TI-99/4A. The Atari 8-bit version took its graphics to the limits, using GTIA. Unfortunately the game was supposed to have new disks available (like the Dungeon, Wilderness, Palace, Arena, etc.) but only The Dungeon became available and that one was never on PC. It could be played as a standalone though. Datasoft simply bit off more than they could chew as they went under shortly. So the game, as it is, is unwinnable.
4D games, my favs.. and I doubt anyone here played STUNTS and did 100 loops on the same loop to achieve the hyperspeed glitch!
Well, we have Stunts world record holder Marco on here, so 🤷♂️😉
(41:45) This isn't *LGR Foods* ? Who wants some... Duke's Mayonnaise?
Great channel and great video! Thank you for your research! Some games of that era were also available on the Atari ST and Amiga as you already said. I am especially interested in finding all 3d games on the Atari ST.
I got the Stunts theme in my head - forever. Also 4D Boxing had a very nice cracktro and music, think it was TRSI/TDT or INC. Edit: 4D Boxing was TRSI/TDT and had no music - the one with the nice music was for 4D Tennis - this time by INC :) The memories are ..blending I guess ;) -> inc4dten.zip on defacto2.net
stunts was my favorite game in the early 90's. it was nice to build my own tracks and test them with different vehicles.
I really wanted to like Alpha Waves, but the timer is just too stringent for me to find enjoyment in it. Which is doubly odd considering it seems to want to present itself as a "zen" style game, from it's New Age jargony box art, to its pastel colors, and to its lovely meditative music.
Stunts, Mechwarrior, LHX...
Stunts was the single most used piece of software on my pc when I was in primary school. I think I might have literally hundreds of hours in the game.
I lloved stunts. It had a map editor!
great videos with many great memories! As a kid, i never understood how to play Midwinter. I now have it in box with a manual and can go try again ;)
lol in F29 you can vaporize whole buildings :)
Stunts, what a great game, I played it for years!
Nice to see you again Anatoly!!
The best Electronic Arts logo..
oh no why am I thinking "do a barrel roll" while watching Starglider lol
I see you used the built in wordart to make the 3d titles.
Diehard blew me away as a kid...and as others hhave said - stunts is a bonfide classic
Trying to find a game we played on my friends ibm, Was early 3d polygon but the only thing i recall is you had to skydive.parachute onto moving truck. We were playing ski or die, Californian games and 3d chess at the time.
Sounds like it could be David Wolf: Secret Agent by Dynamix
You forgot DragonStrike [1990]
Quite enjoyable to this day!
I also "forgot" a million and a half of other flight sims. I only had an hour.
A day when an Anatoly video pops up on my feed is a good day indeed!
I remember Stunts SO well.
Action / Simulator: You forgot about _Arcticfox,_ published by Electronic Arts in 1986.
Huzzah! (39:18) _Alternate Reality: The City_ and (40:51) _Ultima Underworld,_ two of my favorites.
Fitting right in: Wibarm.
my favs:

My Friendddd !!!
Great video#!!!
don't forget "Corncob 3d" tovarish!
1992 was beyond the range of the first decade ;)

i think i had total eclipse on my 386
I had it of my heart
I had that game on my Amstrad CPC 128k and Castle Master

I probably should have featured it, but I didn't. 🤷
do you think space shooters are 3d enough, vector wireframe graphics, like wing commander and elite and such@@dosnostalgic
right that starglider fine@@dosnostalgic
ie a star field mode-7-ish shooter would play well, almost likesuper stardust tunnel sections@@dosnostalgic
r-type in mode-7 linear forward star field shooter@@dosnostalgic
