To be a root , you have to use that username , I guess. '~' means that you are in the same directory as your recent account which can be either a 'root' or 'xyz_account' . you're trying to copy a directory u have to put the -r flag e.g. cp -r Test Directory

Run kernel and init manually through grub .
use exit() to exit and then open os
Easy way to change file permissions
