    I agree that you should not start with season 3 of Heartstopper
    for some of the reasons you discuss in the second half of your post.
    *** *** ***
    But I cracked up when I read your "hunches" based on the "last time on" provided by Netflix:
    "I watched the like the thing that Netflix gave me that was like previously on or
    whatever, it was like 8 minutes or 11 minutes or something, so I basically know
    what was happening.
    It doesn't seem super complicated" 😀
    "okay here's here's season one and two of Heartstopper ... " I haven't even started them."
    "so um you got a kid . . . Charlie and you got a kid named Nick ... "
    *** [In episode 1 YES, those 2 are introduced]
    [---- BUT also 3 other key characters (ages 15-16), as well as 1 antagonist/miscreant(age 16); also, 2 important secondary characters (adults who act as advisors). ]
    "Nick is a super popular jock boy,
    *** [Sort of. (Is generally liked; is generally quiet}; (Star player on the school's rugby team)]
    "and
    um Charlie is not that --- he's our familiar dweeb little ...skinny guy"
    *** [Not exactly. ]
    [He is the only out gay boy in the school (having been outed the year before)]
    [More often referred to as a Nerd, instead of 'dweeb'. (Good at all school subjects, especially math)];
    [can run way faster than anyone else in his PE class)]
    *** [Nick is 16 and in Year 11
    (it's a fictional, all boys school (near Kent));
    Charlie is 14 and in Year 10. ]
    "it's based on a comic book"
    *** [Yes, a web comic and graphic novel in book format;
    the author/illustrator wrote the scripts based on her original texts]
    "so every now and again it has a little bit of a handdrawn animation over the top of it"
    *** [Yes (or some digitized versions)]
    " which is like a window dressing but doesn't really do anything"
    *** [Nope]
    "okay just on a hunch it seems and um it's it's ...."
    "it's a slowburn will they won't they"
    *** [NOPE]
    "initially Nick gets asked out by a girl "
    *** [Initially? If you mean that is how the story of season 1 starts -- NOPE.]
    "and he says yes "
    *** [yes]
    "and then they start to go out"
    *** [NOPE]
    " and then he's like no I didn't want to do this I felt peer pressured into this"
    *** [Yes. right away]
    "then he starts to have feelings for Charlie
    *** [That late in the story? NOPE]
    "and then maybe they have a kiss at the end of season one"
    *** [[" *** A *** KISS"? [NOPE]]
    *** [ " END of season one" (as the season finale?) [NOPE]]
    🤣
    *** *** ***
    >>>>>> I agree with you that without learning about the characters as 'people'
    (in season 1 (and learning more backstory in season 2)) ---
    Season 3 loses meaning and impact.
    So ... Yeah,

      PS:
      There are approximately:
      5 gay characters;
      2 bisexuals;
      2 transexual people;
      2 non-binary people;
      possibly 3 asexual people;
      1 questioning (possibly lesbian);
      and 15 or more straight people,
      (who are named -- some key characters, some secondary.)

      This is amazing. Never have I received such a thorough roast delivered with such joyful eye rolls. The moral of the story is don’t watch a show from the third season for sure.
