I do love that nish has lucid ideas around politics and yet still stays optimistic. I honestly wish I shared this same belief. Last few years have made me quite cynical..
What has happened in the UK in the last 13 years... I am a Canadian who moved to the UK from the US in 2008 and my roommates in London thought it was hilarious that Boris Johnson was elected as mayor and possibly even voted for him. I was horrified and it made me feel quite weary of British sensibilities in general, if taking the piss was the primary objective of local politics. Perhaps that sensibility comes of out generations of disenfranchisement.
And yeah, I do think that electing Boris Johnson as mayor was a certain beginning to an end, but you can also look at it in layers, and it wasn't great when Margaret Thatcher claimed that there was no such thing as society and got rid of public funding, or decades of Queen Victoria in black clothes mourning her husband and giving the middle finger to families not only in her own country but across the whole empire.
I've been trying to figure it out for thirteen long years, I'm actually convinced that the body snatchers invaded and I was one of a very tiny small minority that wasn't effected!! The most shocking part is the fact that very few people know that Rishi aka Roland Rat, is the man who pulled funding from the banks in 2008 and put us into bankruptcy, and people still don't get it that we're being bullied and refused democrasy!!!
As a Brit, this notion that we were a progressive outward looking nation that was sensible is quite unrecognisable. This is the Britain I have always known as someone from the North. What changed was snake oil salesmen like Farage managed to mobilise enough bigots to vote who never took part.
Once or twice at PMQs. And he got a decent grilling at that Conservative business forum. But yes, he mostly bangs on about his five priorities - which several polls have shown to be not very aligned with people's priorities at all. I'm yet to figure out why spending a fortune on housing asylum seekers makes sense, why don't the Gov just invest that cash in speeding up the claims processing? Just a thought...
Lovely Nish Kumar, an intelligent, funny and political oriented comedian, you are a delight to listen to, and you are knowledgeable on the topic, thank you for making things clearer in what happened in the last 13 years and thanks for explaining the financial inequality the government are creating so that people can turn on each others.
I had the misfortune to see Nish live once - he really wasn't funny at all, but I guess that just makes me a racist in his book... (that was pretty much his act at the time) 🙄 That said, as someone else said, Braverman has succeeded in making Pritti Patel look like a liberal!
You can ask Rishi Sunak anything you like and you'll get nothing in return. Except his bullet pointed 5 party priorities being regurgitated at every opportunity as if it's gonna hold anymore water than before, the more often he spews it.
Do not underestimate those who have power over your life in regards to competency. They are very competent, and they are wilfully pursuing a very dark agenda. Do not for a second think that they are incompetent, as far too many liberal pundits do (the likes of Obrien springs to mind).
Absolutely! They play off incompetence & my god is it frustrating!! If any "normal" person was to essentially commit crimes or incite hatred, violence, division etc & their reasoning is essentially "Oh me no understood bad people do bad things because I say a silly, whoops!" We'd be out on our arse bare minimum, if not in court facing prison time! It's also terrifying when you look at asshats like Bojo? He played the clown, he is a total twat & whilst I don't see that man as particularly intelligent BUT! He's a grifter, he's all about him & what HE wants & is willing to do whatever it takes to get it. There are plenty of politicians who act in a very similar way, covering their evil intentions with shiny trinkets to distract. Then they jump in, all guns blazing & push through whatever policies it may be before anyone really realises what they're really doing.
This all stems from the mistaken belief that those with power are working for the general population. That has rarely been the case but for some reason people still begin their thinking from this starting point.
Respect to both Nish and the excellent interviewer. The BBC has historically been seen as impartial news coverage.(for the most part) Pressure from govt removes that neutrality. Let's not forget that English traditional racism included " no blacks, no Irish" signs on the doors of many buildings. Racism isn't about who you are it's about who you hate.

Suella Braverman's father fled Kenya during the Mau Mau uprising, because of all the deaths at the British concentration camp he was running. Now, his daughter is going back to Africa, to set up a British concentration camp. We have been neglecting creating jobs and funding the coast guard, or the civil service for processing migrants, and instead paying money to hoteliers to house migrants in limbo. All so they can eventually be fed as stock to Suella's camps.
FACT CHECK: Christie Fernandes left Kenya in the late sixties (a number of years after Independence, and almost a decade after Mau Mau). I'm certainly no fan or defender of Braverman (or, by extension, her family) nor of the British atrocities in Kenya, but unless you can substantiate your remarks about "the British concentration camp he was running," you must retract that statement.
Mau Mau uprising started in 1952 when her Father would have been about 5 years old yet your saying he was running a concentration camp. Your talking complete bollocks lol
Austerity made the already rich even richer. Cuts to child health and mental health services caused cracks. My child fell through one of those chasms, never to return. Thanks Tories.
Profligate spending on social services will inevitably result in no social services at all as the tax revenues required to fund it all will eventually exceed the capacity of free market capitalism to deliver. No human system is perfect and likely no human system will ever be perfect. I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Unfortunately all human systems result in a degree of failure and the human cost on the personal level must always be borne by individuals. Even totalitarian systems of total state control fail to control all aspects of life and result in outcomes the system is designed to eliminate. No comfort for individual loss, but there is no amount of money that can control all outcomes.
@@TPQ1980 a lot of truth in what you said. Thank you for your kind words. Yes, the mental health workers had far too many people on their books for the number of staff. Mistakes were made, opportunities missed. Also linked in services with wider young people's services and educational settings... protocols that were preached to me and supposedly rolled out were not adhered to by certain individuals in those parts of the process. I did my part, others didn't do theirs. So cuts equals holes. I have no idea how much it cost for the emergency services, inquest, etc. I know how much the funeral costs were. All the charities and help I had after that awful event (bedroom tax after "one year's grace") and I had to move house. My loss of income due to not being fit to work following that. My burden upon the state. My other child's mental health and the cost to the state for the help I've needed with that. Honestly, I think, in my ideal world, budgets should be increased, and robust systems adhered to, as the cost of tragedy is also a lot.

I wouldn't describe Braverman as incompetent. That is far too kind and unfair to truly incompetent people who work hard and put effort into the art of being incompetent. In fact, you could say she is incompetent at being incompetent because she never really rises to the height of being incompetent but wallows around way below that level of achievement. You could argue she needs help to become at least 'weakly' incompetent. She really should ask her old mate Boris Johnson for some tips on how to become a true incompetent. He had it down to a fine art.

I get your point but I disagree A lot of them feel comfortable talking about south Asian immigration as they make up the bulk of people in this country black people only make up 3% many of whom came under wind rush and many Africans who immigrate don’t make up the percentage that south Asian do Importantly a lot of south Asian make up huge communities in London, South Yorkshire, Manchester everywhere. As someone who goes to Uni up north there’s hardly any black people here but. A lot of international students are either East Asian or international south Asian student or the ones born here make up a huge cohort of students. Suella clearly attacked British Pakistani men in her rage about them sexually assaulting young white working class girls And many of the immigrants housed in hotels are from Syria, Afghanistan, India. There was even a scandal of Vietnamese immigrants scamming the system with them buying a baby daddy to use to stay in the country as they said there children father was a British citizen So no, whilst south Asian are racist especially yes to black people, black peoples are not the centre of these conversations. At this point there irrelevant to these conversations, the only time they bring up black people is when they talk about race and culture wars and woke politics mate And yes there are African immigrants don’t get me wrong, but like I said black African people are being turned away But the others like Lebanese, Indian, Pakistani, Syrian and Afghanistan people are coming on boats and stuff claiming asylum Black people aren’t doing that mate, most come Under a visa to work for the NHS even then there not much But on the news recently is was said that many people from India were coming to the Uk to study under commonwealth visa’s And there the group most loyal to Britain cause there BENEFITTING yet in black commonwealth countries they don’t benefit and are trying to get rid of the monarchy with Jamaica 🇯🇲 being next to get rid of them So no, I think this is another ‘black people are being discriminated by them’ no it doesn’t make sense

It's sadly a very slow process and a reason why I can't support Keir Starmer Keir Starmer rightfully backs Ukraine. Putin wants Ukraine due to it being a former member of the soviet union, and because Ukraine is a bread basket Putin wants pretty much ANY former soviet territory that they're willing to use force to get When it comes to Kashmir however (ie: where my family is from) Keir Starmer says "It's a bilateral issue" all whilst he curries support with Modi Modi believes in an Akhand Bharat and has links to the extremist group, RSS. He too wants the exact same goals as Putin except for South Asia, starting with Kashmir. You can't have an Akhand Bharat without violent imperialism, or super progressive ideas. An Akhand Bharat would put south Asia essentially under Hindu supremacy I too would back a unification of south Asia but not with any Muslim, Sikh or Hindu supremacy. Ie: like the EU, but that's a slight tangent Given that Keir has basically given the green light to Modi, Modi knows the west no longer cares, so he's become ever more aggressive towards Kashmir. Kashmir also has one of the most important resources on the planet which can't readily be used by any county except it's neighboring nations (water) I see his words as a way of saying "Screw the families of 3 million British Kashmiris. You don't actually matter because we want a trade deal with India" FWIW, I'm not anti India either. I'm anti Modi. Pre Modi, India and Pakistan both used diplomacy where possible and blaming the other country where possible Pre Modi, Kashmir had a fairly strong Kashmiri Independence movement. After Modi comes along, almost all Kashmiris sided with Pakistan because they've got a military and Modi is the one attacking, so you don't really have a choice. That and so far, Pakistan has kept it's promise of keeping Kashmir Azad (free) Apparently freedom is only for white people and those countries that have oil can be invades for the false idea of freedom.
As a brown Brit - I can only agree with what Nish says about not celebrating Sunak, Braverman (or Patel or Cleverly, etc) achieving political status in the UK as some measure of tolerance and progress. I think the problem about what to deal with first, between the climate and inequality, is that climate change is kinda of like being on a sinking ship in the middle of the ocean but inequality is like having your hands tied as well. Yes the sinking boat is the bigger problem but there's not much you can do with your hands tied.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the U.K. is a class based system, yes some people are racist but upbringing, school and accent mean more to the British than just colour. These new ruling politicians in the U.K. come from ancestors in Indian, Pakistan and general Asian communities and have a much stronger and hatred class system based on creed and religion. I grew up in a diverse community. I think the term racism is devisive. There is only one race, the human race. A few years ago I was bullied off the road by a car driver and remonstrated in self defence. When questioned about the incident by police they kept accusing me of making a racist attack. At no time was it accepted by them my claim of self defence by stopping the driver exiting his vehicle in which damage to his vehicle resulted. I hate racism and racist agendas.
He's a comedian ?
You can ask Rishi Sunak anything you like and you'll get nothing in return.
Except his bullet pointed 5 party priorities being regurgitated at every opportunity as if it's gonna hold anymore water than before, the more often he spews it.
But what do you expect from someone who is simply a male nipple looking for a purpose?
Do not underestimate those who have power over your life in regards to competency. They are very competent, and they are wilfully pursuing a very dark agenda. Do not for a second think that they are incompetent, as far too many liberal pundits do (the likes of Obrien springs to mind).
Absolutely! They play off incompetence & my god is it frustrating!! If any "normal" person was to essentially commit crimes or incite hatred, violence, division etc & their reasoning is essentially "Oh me no understood bad people do bad things because I say a silly, whoops!"
We'd be out on our arse bare minimum, if not in court facing prison time!

We see this now where interviewers of Union Leaders hash out tory rhetoric and won't listen or allow viewers to listen to replies.
Bring back Mock the Week.
Let's not forget that English traditional racism included " no blacks, no Irish" signs on the doors of many buildings. Racism isn't about who you are it's about who you hate.
As an English person of Irish Catholic extraction, I think it is great that there are so many people of different ethnicities, colours, sexualities... taking the flak.
England has forgotten all about "Satanic Catholics". Result!

@Some Aussie Guy from Perthyou sound real fuckin racist right now my dude, gonna assume you didn't mean to, most places don't allow dogs and don't like them, hence being on the same signs as no blacks or Irish.
@Some Aussie Guy from Perth It was a famous slogan from the 50s and 60s (especially) made particularly well-known by a photograph of a sign in the window of a Bed & Breakfast from that period.
@@DavidManser I recall it appearing in the 70s and early 80s too, though the attention it received was minimal. Not aware of it appearing from the late 80s onwards.
I thoroughly enjoyed that conversation👍
Labour bailed out the bankers and cleared the decks for the Tories

Nish is absolutely correct - if frustrated with the current nature of the BBC, just imagine what a life without it might be like. We've seen what angry people can persuade others to select and what the results of those choices can be .... think carefully before removing more of the culture that makes the British what they are.
Sadly people don't think carefully. They just blindly voted for Boris' hard Brexit because they were desperate to see the Brexit stalemate end. They have to see the consequences of their actions first hand before they realise what a mistake they made.
Britain ceased to be the cultured place you imagine about 13 years ago and it's about to get worse. I haven't watched the BBC for about 10 years and I promise you life is better without it.

Rishi and Suella are the perfect examples of Internalized racism. It makes total sense for them to try to be the very "best" of nobs, thus adopting the very disgusting attitudes of their social peers that have judged their parents and them as inferior all their lives, excusing and explain away their own experiences as simply circumstantial misinterpretations and not examples of Racism at all.
Wow it's quite surprising that with all that racial discrimination they still managed to attain the highest level of political power for themselves in an popularity contest election system where the overwhelming majority of the voters are what you consider to be completely racist😂🤔

So good to hear Nish Kumar again since the BBC jettisoned one of their finest programmes. A great interview and so necessary.
I love Nish. Great show Joe!
Yup.. the original sin.. they got away with it thus far too. Which is a permission slip to act even more extreme
Nish was so great on that bbc2 programme that was cut..surprise surprise..
Nish is up there with Mark Thomas and Tom Walker, modern greats of comedy offering better reporting on British Politics and modern life than the news providers
His podcast with coco is phenominal
He has a victim complex, he can't be rational.
Agree 100% with you, Nish: tackling the climate crisis NOW ought to be society's No.1 priority. In the process we would eradicate the inequalities that exist today. I, too, evidently, am an idealist. Thanks Politics Joe for this great interview 👍
Nish Kumar is absolutely spot on. Nothing really to add to be honest.
Being so openly hated by the daily Mail and their commenters is the highest possible badge of honour for Nish - their loathing shows they're genuinely scared of him, his views and his excellent delivery.
The idea that hatred can only be the result of fear is so stupid I can almost imagine Nish Kumar saying it.
I honestly would love to see more videos from Nish on this channel, not only is he genuinely funny, but he knows what he's talking about.
He’s definitely not funny and he’s a racist
And his mere existence enrages the most dull minded racists, which is a bonus :D
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Thanks, guys.
I enjoyed Nish Kumar's topical tv show but obviously it wasn't exactly surrounded by love by the BBC. So hopefully this new venture will be successful.
Wasn't surround by love by anyone.

Nish as a hindu would also have recognised that braverman, patel and sunak are hindus and modi supporters so would be racist towards asylum seekers ( mainly middle eastern and black in orign) and blacks in general.
I get your point but I disagree
A lot of them feel comfortable talking about south Asian immigration as they make up the bulk of people in this country black people only make up 3% many of whom came under wind rush and many Africans who immigrate don’t make up the percentage that south Asian do
Importantly a lot of south Asian make up huge communities in London, South Yorkshire, Manchester everywhere. As someone who goes to Uni up north there’s hardly any black people here but. A lot of international students are either East Asian or international south Asian student or the ones born here make up a huge cohort of students.
Suella clearly attacked British Pakistani men in her rage about them sexually assaulting young white working class girls
And many of the immigrants housed in hotels are from Syria, Afghanistan, India. There was even a scandal of Vietnamese immigrants scamming the system with them buying a baby daddy to use to stay in the country as they said there children father was a British citizen
So no, whilst south Asian are racist especially yes to black people, black peoples are not the centre of these conversations. At this point there irrelevant to these conversations, the only time they bring up black people is when they talk about race and culture wars and woke politics mate
And yes there are African immigrants don’t get me wrong, but like I said black African people are being turned away
But the others like Lebanese, Indian, Pakistani, Syrian and Afghanistan people are coming on boats and stuff claiming asylum
Black people aren’t doing that mate, most come
Under a visa to work for the NHS even then there not much
But on the news recently is was said that many people from India were coming to the Uk to study under commonwealth visa’s
And there the group most loyal to Britain cause there BENEFITTING yet in black commonwealth countries they don’t benefit and are trying to get rid of the monarchy with Jamaica 🇯🇲 being next to get rid of them
So no, I think this is another ‘black people are being discriminated by them’ no it doesn’t make sense
Cheer PJ looking forward to Nish and his new show very good bloke loved him on Frankie Boyle. Watching from Scotland peace and love to all
Love Nish Kumar, very insightful man.

Wow you're so edgy and cool.
Slightly sorry Nish didn't speak about class interest in regards to Sunak and Braverman.
That section on racism and Nish’s powerful reply is absolutely spot on!!!!
Nish may be risking his career (at least with the BBC) for being this frank, but i guess the Chairman resigned, and a change of government widely expected, so maybe not
Great look forward to your podcast ,joined up thinking at last
Really enjoyed this conversation
Agree: Daily Mail and Spectator, Daily Express etc act perniciously to undermine reality and true debate based on facts
1 in 5 people in the U.K. were not born here which has significantly increased the population and has cultural implications. It is not right to belittle all concerns or call everyone racist?
France has not been able to integrate people and it has raised questions about multiculturalism vs integration and how quickly a country should be changed or if it is changing for the better
What Nish discribes as the "original sin" I totally agree is the seed from which all the other damage has grown.

“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” Just for posterity’s sake.
It's sadly a very slow process and a reason why I can't support Keir Starmer
Keir Starmer rightfully backs Ukraine. Putin wants Ukraine due to it being a former member of the soviet union, and because Ukraine is a bread basket
Putin wants pretty much ANY former soviet territory that they're willing to use force to get
When it comes to Kashmir however (ie: where my family is from) Keir Starmer says "It's a bilateral issue" all whilst he curries support with Modi
Modi believes in an Akhand Bharat and has links to the extremist group, RSS. He too wants the exact same goals as Putin except for South Asia, starting with Kashmir.
You can't have an Akhand Bharat without violent imperialism, or super progressive ideas. An Akhand Bharat would put south Asia essentially under Hindu supremacy
I too would back a unification of south Asia but not with any Muslim, Sikh or Hindu supremacy. Ie: like the EU, but that's a slight tangent
Given that Keir has basically given the green light to Modi, Modi knows the west no longer cares, so he's become ever more aggressive towards Kashmir. Kashmir also has one of the most important resources on the planet which can't readily be used by any county except it's neighboring nations (water)
I see his words as a way of saying "Screw the families of 3 million British Kashmiris. You don't actually matter because we want a trade deal with India"
FWIW, I'm not anti India either. I'm anti Modi. Pre Modi, India and Pakistan both used diplomacy where possible and blaming the other country where possible
Pre Modi, Kashmir had a fairly strong Kashmiri Independence movement. After Modi comes along, almost all Kashmiris sided with Pakistan because they've got a military and Modi is the one attacking, so you don't really have a choice.
That and so far, Pakistan has kept it's promise of keeping Kashmir Azad (free)
Apparently freedom is only for white people and those countries that have oil can be invades for the false idea of freedom.
Please stop doing a preview at top of the show. There is no need.
As a brown Brit - I can only agree with what Nish says about not celebrating Sunak, Braverman (or Patel or Cleverly, etc) achieving political status in the UK as some measure of tolerance and progress. I don’t need to repeat what he says, but I see them as ultimate suck ups, desperate for crumbs from the table, like parodies of that bloke off ‘It Ain’t Half Hot, Mum’. They’re teeth-gratingly awful.

I think the problem about what to deal with first, between the climate and inequality, is that climate change is kinda of like being on a sinking ship in the middle of the ocean but inequality is like having your hands tied as well.
Yes the sinking boat is the bigger problem but there's not much you can do with your hands tied.
Except the elite could have done a lot to reduce GHG emissions over the last forty years without untying the hands of the bottom, say 80% of the population. They did quite the opposite instead, while tightening the ropes on people’s limbs at the same time through austerity 🐄🐂💩
Mention 400 billion covid cost some people on 80% of there salary who'd of thought it would have to be pàid back then
Problem I have is they are confusing racism with immigration. The British born asians working classes get a lot of racism and classism. No one has ever addressed it.
In sane countries Suella Braverman would've been tossed into prison long ago, and not get out anytime soon ... but then, sane countries have a constitution and independent prosecutors.

Interestingly the demonising of asylum seekers is coming from female Asian politicians, who say they don’t want British ways to be undermined. Aren’t they the ones who have already under minded British values and ways.
The current state of british law is racist. As is the government. I refuse to answer any questions on forms relating to race, including those on the census.
