It's worth remembering Varuna is also an Asura. Asuras are known as Daityas (children of Diti, "limitation") as well as Danavas. The devas and asuras both fulfill necessary though logically opposed functions. Asuras represent limitation, protection and concealment (like a well in the earth or milk in the breast) whereas the devas represent liberation, breaking out and exposure (rain, flood and the suckling child).

    • @Sam-vz8gn
      @Sam-vz8gn 3 года назад +6

Originally the Asura didn't had any negative connotation. In the Rigveda the word Asura is mostly used in a positive way. This word was used to refer to somebody as "lord". Even Indra, Agni etc have been referred to as Asuras in some verses.

@@slmsinghania demons is christian word don't confuse with it. all devas, danavas, daityas and asuras are having different functions initially all were brothers but they got seperated as per their choices. some Danavas are devas now and some are asuras. sura or devas means who are in tune with universe and asura means not in tune.

The origin of the schism goes like this,
Before Iranians were Zoroastrians/Parsis they were Vedic Hindus who all lived mostly around the Sapta Sindhu (Hapta Hindu) area of the Sindhu-Saraswati Civilisation (SSVC or IVC), due to some conflict they started opposing the Vedic Hindus due to which there was a war, which they lost and got expelled/left, as a concequence they started revering only Asuras (Ahuras) and denigrated the Devas (Daivas) creating the schism

I don't know if you just didn't get this deep into it but in the Vedas, Danu, Diti, and Aditi were among the many daughters of Daksha Prajapati, The "First Man", king and father of Civilization, and "Manasputra", mind-created the son of Brahma. His daughters, (60 according to some sources), were married to various other children of Brahma, including the First Sages and their descendants, and the Planets.
Danu, Diti and Aditi were all 3 married to Maharishi Kashyapa. Kashyapa had 13 wives in all, all sisters. With them he is said to have fathered 13 separate 'clans', 'tribes' or 'races': Adityas (Devas), Dityas (Asuras), Vasus, Maruts, Rudras, Danavas, Nagas, Manasa, Iravati, etc....
It is described that not all these tribes stayed in the lands of Prajapati. For varying reasons, they spread out across the world to seek out new lands.
'Asuras' became a catch-all label for those peoples not specifically of a certain "type", it had nothing to do with being Demons or religious practice but appears to have been more socio-political. As someone else stated, "Azura" was a word for the Tamil Royalty, just for instance. Most tribes born not of Aditi became labeled Asuras and are equated with them in the Upanishads, Brahmanas and Puranas. But in the same texts, the 3 High Deities, Shivshakti, VishnuLaksmi, BrahmaSaraswati, don't really ever discriminate between any of them unless one does specific wrong - especially Shiva. The discrimination is entirely a thing created by these tribes of peoples.
There's a lot going on here, and it's very complex but it boils down to the Danavas being the children of Kashyap and Danu, not specifically "Demons" but "Othered", and it seems because of this they left the lands of Daksha where they were under some sort of pressure or strife to find new land for themselves. According to the ancient texts anyway.
The Tuatha De Danaan could easily have been the Danavas.
Danu was never a "dark" goddess, and if she became such that was later in more modern Puranic writing.

My understanding of this goddess is that she likely stems from an older Indo-European tradition that dates back to possibly to the Neolithic she is a Earth goddess representing not just nature but the very laws of nature. One legend in the Scottish tradition tells of when Danu took the sun away for believing that there was no longer and good in the hearts of men and if I have this correct the eagle who eventually convinced the goddess to return the sun to the sky. Therefore we can assume that goddess Danu is also in control of the heavens not just the earth and we know that the gods are descended from Danu being the mother of all the gods its fair to interpret this goddess as the embodiment of the cosmos and the natural order.

My understanding: Out of Danu/Don (the chaotic cosmic darkness) emerged Beli/Belenos, the god of Light. From them emerged the various dieties: The Children of Don & The Children of Beli. A river Don/Danu ran through the ancient kingdom of Elmet (Elm-Nemeton) named after a sacred grove, which it seems, the Romans burned, leaving it's precinct desolate to this day. The people of Elmet were former Brigantes. The later kings of Elmet (Llennawc, Gwallawc & Ceretic) were Coelling. According to Welsh genealogies, Coel Hen ultimately descended from Afallach (Lord of the Underworld), the son of Beli. Tribal river goddesses like Sequana, Boann, Sinenn, Clota, Aeron etc. were all local reflections of Danu, the original and most ancient of all goddesses. Interestingly, on the bank overlooking the Clota/Clyde they discovered a large stone tricephalous of a god. Such are common across the Celtic world, usually associated with Lugus/Lugh/Lleu.

It's not about Vaishnavism and Shaivism. This video is about Vedic Proto-Indo European myths. The Trimurti is much later compared to the Indo European vedic gods and the concept of Trimurti arose during the later vedic period. Vishnu himself is a Aditya and it is only after the rise of Bhagavatism, i.e. the popularity of the Vrishni heroic figures, Vasudeva Krishna and his brother Sankarshan Balarama (which is much older (500 BC) than Shaivism (100 BC to 100 AD) or Shiva as a Brahminical god distinct from the vedic Rudra or Harappan Pashupati)
that Vishnu came to be identified as the supreme god by Vaishnavates or as they then were, Bhagavats and it rose to be the dominant tradition during Gupta period. Ref:- Heliodorus pillar of Greek Antialcidas Nikephoro.
The point being that Vishnu as we see now, was a result of a first relation of Narayana(who might have had a Harrapan origin) to Vasudeva Krishna and then the identification of Narayana to Vishnu who is a Vedic deity (like we see in Rudra, Maruts etc who are the vedic form of what we now know as Shiva and the Harappan Pashupati).
In any case, in Rigveda Aditi is the mother and NOT the daughter of Prajapati Daksha and the story of her being married to Kashyapa is from the Puranas and Daksha himself is an Aditya in the Vedas along with other sons like Aryaman (being related to Airyaman of the Iranian traditions and Eremon of Celtic tradition and is a proto-Indo European god) and others.
So your detailed comment, albeit well written, is not relevant to Proto-Indo European myths.

Which could be base of both Dana and aine. Also the tree is included in a lot of these myths and the mountain ushba is said to be the base of the great tree.

It is denoting her connection to the aethereal flow that moves in and out of our material world through the cycle of the Great Year. You should research into the constellation Eridanus, you will find more information there for your studies into ancient mythology.

It seems in the west, demi gods (asuras) are often assumed to be demons, which they are not. And 'wrathful' deities (better translation of 'fierce') is not either. Of the 6 main realms on the karmic/ samsaric wheel, devas (so called gods) they might have abilities but are not enlightened and have a general karmic issue of pride. And at the end of their long life, they can fall easily to lower realms (they can become complacent to spiritual progress in their comfortable life). Then asuras are the demi gods, who can also have abilities but the main karmic issue of jealousy and tendency to create wars with the devas. The other four realms are the humans, then lower realms are the animals, pretas (which are not ghosts) and hell realms. When I lived in the himalaya I did hear about how the lower realms would empty out in the degenerate age. This purification age is actually the best time to attain enlightenment, as suffering etc becomes more obvious. We have all lived infinite lives in infinite realms as infinite beings. You can even incarnate as a planet, a bridge, a glacier. That's why the buddhists pray to incarnate as whatever will help beings out of their sufferings.

We see something similar happen in the fertile crescent. The Sumerians had a sea goddess Nammu, mother of the gods. Not much was written about her. Babylon took things in a different direction, the rough equivalent in Babylon was Tiamat, and the freshwater sea beneath the ground was also personified by the Babylonians as Apsu. Their children, the first gods, killed Apsu, turning Tiamat into a spiteful and raging being, who created the monsters to kill them. Babylon's patron deity, Marduk, killed Tiamat's monsters, and then Tiamat, and set the world into order.
To the Sumerians, it appears, Nammu was the source of all. But to the Babylonians, she became an obstacle to be overcome. Similar, I think, to how Irish Danu is the mother of the gods, but Vedic Danu is the mother of their opposition.
That seems to me to support the idea of tribal differentiation... but I'm biased, as I tend to think that that accounts for a significant amount of the differences and diversity in religions. The underlying concept, however, of literal or figurative primordial waters being that from which all emerges... the fact that that idea arises in at least two unrelated centers of mythology (more if what I think I remember about other myths is right) is fascinating, and says something important about the world, or at least the way we relate to and interpret it.

Not demons really. Just rival races against the devas and all born from same father
      .
      q
Actually the great ascetic sage "Rishi kashyap" Is said to have founded many godly races from his 27 wives. All these distributed themselves into largely two groups - the devas and asuras - so yes they are paternally from same father but due to different mothers - they are more recognised with maternal identity - since paternally they can't claim to be different from each other.
Diti is said to have given birth to daityas and danu gave birth to danavas.
And the devas were born to aditi. And vinita.
Let's just say the same father founded different mystical races on these 27 women who were all sisters. And their two groupings are what keep fighting each other.
Primarily the sons of aditi, vinita and some others vs
the sons of diti, danu and others.
All these events happened on celestial realms but yes all these gods founded their races in flesh and blood on earth too.. So rivalry may have continued on entire earth between these factions.
Nonetheless, the founders of these gods and their human races were great ascetic Rishis who were created by Lord brahma who was in turn created by Lord vishnu and then there's Lord shiva who is said to have manifested Lord vishnu ( many vaishnavites get triggered - so we don't reveal these details)
But yes. The Trinity or "trimurti" Are the root of every existence on earth and are said to liberate us from the cycle of birth and death - that's why worship them.
      Google search "Rishi kashyap"
      "Chiranjeevis" For more details.

I see the current sick trend of unification of all gods as the same god, its exactly what the romans did with christianity assimilating other gods under their banner, your hell begins in the otherworld as all the insulted gods await you
