Upgrading Zhiyun Crane V2 gimbal firmware on Mac

- If you're trying to upgrade the firmware on your Zhiyun Crane gimbal, especially an older model like my Crane V2, and you're running MacOS and experiencing issues like not being able to connect, this is what I figured out.
If you're running MacOS 10.14 Mojave or higher, DO NOT install any serial USB drivers, they are directly supported by the OS. If this is the case, just use the older version of Gimbal Tools (1.3.4) if things don't seem to work. Jump to 5:05.

Brian, thank you so much for making this video, helped me fix the issue! Using a Smooth 4 and could only update once I found a good cable (maybe the original cable) and by using the Gimbal Tools 1.3.4

I bought my Zhiyun V2 Crane in 2018, used allot, always behaved perfect. Today I went on to update the firmware and now nothings works. I installed Zhiyun gimbal tools 1.52 and it started to update firmware, once it was in the middle I decided to cancel. How do I reset everything now? I stoped in the middle because I was afraid this was going to happen if I updated the firmware, I just wanted to check the firmware version initially, this was all a mistake. PLEASE HELP!
I have a Weebill 3S and my brain is hurting trying to understand all of this. I'm on Sonoma 14.1.2 on my Macbook Pro and when I connect the gimbal to the Mac nothing pops up, when I click on the Gimbal Tools nothing appears, this is so frustrating.
Hi, many of us have following issue: gimbal signs "Upgrade" And than "x". And there is no use of Thatsache gimbal anymore. Do you have an idea how to solve this problem? We would be very glad hearing from you
BTW apparently you can use the latest firmware for the Crane Plus on your V2 (maybe not apparently as I was able to do it). It adds some nice things such as POV mode. However I would keep your payloads below the 1.8kg max on the Crane V2 and not the higher one on the Crane Plus, as I imagine the motors on that are probably upgraded. Haven't been able to test this though as my setup maxes out at 1.4kg.
Can you charge the zhiyun crane v2 with usb through the handle?
Sorry it won't charge the Crane that way, if you were thinking of a way to keep it continually charged and running. You'll need to take the batteries out and charge them through the battery charger that came with it. Which is why I bought a second set of batteries to quickly swap them out.

Great video, thanks for sharing. Very helpful. I was kinda hoping updating my firmware would help me get timelapse mode to work better with my Canon 90d. I can get my Crane V2 to set the A and B points and control the gimbal, but I still cannot not able to get it to control the camera/shutter via the usb cable. I have the cable connected to the correct places. Just after loading the app I do notice a '404' error appear briefly.
Hey sorry for the late reply but I haven't tried time lapse or used the Canon 90d so I'm not sure what could be wrong.

I'm not sure if I understand exactly what you mean...do you mean, where is the correct serial port on the gimbal located, or are you asking where to locate the serial port on your computer? If you're looking for the correct serial port on the gimbal to connect to, it's the micro-USB connection located near the joystick controller (see timestamp around 7:19). If you're wondering where the cable should connect to on your computer is, well any of your USB connections can be used. Because the cable provided with the gimbal is a micro-USB to USB-A, then your port can be USB-A, or if it's USB-C, then you just need a USB-A to USB-C adapter. Hopefully that answers your question.

What model is your gimbal? Be aware that if you have the Crane V2 or the Crane 2, they are different models. Crane V2 is the 2nd generation of the original Crane (version 1), while Crane 2 was another newer model. So if you have the Crane V2 (like I do), use the firmware for the Crane model (no numbers).

@@dynamiteUSA Well based on that, you should be downloading v1.60 for the Crane, link here: zhiyun-website-shenzhen.oss-cn-shenzhen.aliyuncs.com/hardware/20210219/1613707555440-JK4wcQT3.zip (same version I use in the video). If for some reason that doesn't work, you can also try the firmware for the Crane Plus: zhiyun-website-shenzhen.oss-cn-shenzhen.aliyuncs.com/hardware/20210219/1613717744744-8XANckFc.zip. It worked for me as well but just warning it's not made for the Crane V2 but it could help if there's no other option.
