Nice work. Just a small tip from an old humble teacher. Of course it's not a heavy duty tool but a diagonal wedge you would have more pressure between wood and brass on the 4 sides of the housing then two small wedges and esthetically nicer. Keep up the good work and be safe.
Great build. This was the first project I saved into my ‘Tool Building’ folder. Currently I have 118 posts filed away for inspiration and have attempted to recreate many of those projects. I’ve learned a lot in the last couple of years from makers like you on RUclips, Instagram, and Reddit. Now I think it’s time to make the brass plane hammer. I’ve had the materials sitting in a drawer for at least a year. I don’t suppose you have a copy of those beautiful drawings uploaded anywhere? Thanks for the inspiration and tips.
Hi Devon, Yes, the plans are posted on my Patreon account. Members at the Skipper Tier or above can download the plans for free. There are 7 other tool plans also on the site you may be interested in. (always adding more in the future) Here is a link to the Brass Mallet Posting www.patreon.com/posts/78420042?pr=true Thanks for watching! Cheers, Bob
I haven't a clue whether I can build as you have demonstrated any of the things on your videos, but one thing is for certain - nothing will get done if I don't start. Thank you for the motivation and inspiration.
Wow, a pencil, french curve and an erasing shield! I thought I was the only one still using these antique drawing tools. I enjoy your videos please keep them coming.
Loved seeing you drawing... reminded me of sitting across from my father at his drawing table, the smell of pencil sharpenings and cigarette smoke mixed with old paper plans of previous buildings he had designed is my fondest childhood memory.
Just a small detail, if I can be so bold. On the bottom of the brass piece that’s is to become the hammer head might I suggest filling a small flat where the handle is to meet it so that the round stock does not leave a gap. It’s a beautiful piece and I think this small detail might be the only addition. Thank you for another good video.
Building a boat requires a lot more skills than just carpenrty and you have shown quite a few of them in these vids already. I think we may be seeing that anvil some time in the future...... Keep well and keep on keeping on.
Alec Steele has a 140 pound anvil coming out, he just released a testing video on the first one from the foundry. Great looking English style anvil, for sure.
Your artistic abilities are evident in everything you do. Your videos are a joy to watch. Could you possibly do a video on drawing on the board? Tools, types/hardness of pencils, tricks and techniques? I'm a cad designer and beginning woodworker and it would be a great help. Again, thanks for taking the time and effort to make these videos.
I got in here late this morning so I think it's all been said. Excellent work, very enjoyable production. Thank you for sharing, and please stay healthy.
When in doubt, make it a work of art. And, it can't hurt to make the plans works of art either. I see why my woodworking isn't what it could be; I wasn't a sculptor first! It's those little nuances, like the brass tube through the lanyard hole and maple wedges, that draw attention through their subtlety. Very beautiful.
Great work! I have a 2 foot piece of 3/4 inch brass rod that I bought to make bench dogs and a brass mallet just like yours. Watching this video inspires me to actually get it done!
I saw two works of art, the hammer itself and your drafting drawing of it. Thanks for sharing it, much appreciated.
Amazing craftsmanship! Very cool build!
Beautiful hammer.
Finally, someone who works in a logical manner... old school and reliable.
Beautiful hammer. Great job.
Hi from New Zealand. Stay safe and thanks so much for sharing these videos with us
Very nice mallet. Congrats
Bob nice workmanship very detailed with a great outcome.
Done, done, and done!
Excellent design. Good thinking to apply the epoxy to the head slot vs the handle. Useful little trick to remember for any number of applications.
Very nice. I like the idea of adding walnut dust to the epoxy. I never thought of that.
It really makes the joints seamless. Thanks!
I am a hobby machinist but love your tool making videos.
Thank-you SIR I ALREADY started to draw out my Handle Your Finished Product is Beautiful !
I love your videos that I have watched. Very clear. I hope I can make as good of videos as you some day
Beautiful tooling. You are a true craftsman
This is the mallet I have to replicate! Thank you for sharing and I pray your future work is as beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful work. Thanks for sharing
I lack the skills, but can appreciate your excellent craftsmanship. Both are not only beautiful tools, but works of art as well.
Nice work. Just a small tip from an old humble teacher. Of course it's not a heavy duty tool but a diagonal wedge you would have more pressure between wood and brass on the 4 sides of the housing then two small wedges and esthetically nicer. Keep up the good work and be safe.

Wow, old school design and hand tool manufacturing.
That is a beautiful tool.
I agree, beautiful tool
Beautiful tool, just beautiful
Bob, beautiful tools you're making. Now you need to make a tool chest to keep them in. Perhaps a treasure chest design?
Wow, a pencil, french curve and an erasing shield! I thought I was the only one still using these antique drawing tools. I enjoy your videos please keep them coming.
Beautiful hammer. Thanks
Nice music addition.
Thanks for another great tool making episode!
Voila! It's a pleasure to see a journeyman artist and craftsman at work.
Lovely ethos and care with outstanding results
I'm going to make one of these! Great job
Watching your "back catalogue" at the moment. Great design and craftsmanship in the tools that you are making...
I'm binge watching your videos and loving it. Maybe consider making a wooden case for the plane and tap mallet.
Wow! All the tools you make are so beautiful, small pieces of art. Just love it!

Beautifully done, thanks for sharing
Nice work! All the best from Argentina

Gorgeous tool.
Beautiful work!
THAT is beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

Great ,Very good Craft
Great work!
That mallet is a piece of art, beautiful and very well done. It complements the plane beautifully.
Gorgeous!
Very nice job...
Just beautiful! Take care!
great video, thank you very much.
I must say you have much skill as an artist too. Nice rendering on the mallet. It makes a great companion for the plane. Beautiful indeed.
Just found your channel, great content. Thank you.
Beautiful work. Although I would prefer an oil finish. Danish, Tung or Linseed. An oil finish just feels better in my hand.
Real arts and crafts, thanks Bob!
the tool making videos are great -thanks for the content!
Glad you like them!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice Mallet, I'm really liking these tool building videos, this series is far more then building a boat. :)
Great looking hammer, fantastic craftsmanship & precision exhibited in this video, thanks for posting.
Wow they look fantastic together!
Beautiful work! Very interested in following along. Thanks. 🇨🇦
Your tool making videos are some of the best on youtube.

Peepaw Hebert, Thanks, I’ll put that in the queue. I find a lot of joy in drafting. I appreciate your support and suggestion.

Beautiful hammer. Really appreciate all the brass and the details.
When in doubt, make it a work of art. And, it can't hurt to make the plans works of art either. I see why my woodworking isn't what it could be; I wasn't a sculptor first!

Really enjoy your tool building but looking forward to you getting back to the boat building.
Incredible skill set. I have shop and skill envy!
As ever I love your work. The honky tonk music, with brief interlude to explain your filing, just made me chuckle!
I really enjoy the attention you place on detail all the way from design to creating the item. Great videos.
Looks to me like you went way beyond beautiful with this mallet, Bob-gorgeous work! Stay safe.
