THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! I just bought this pen. I fought for over an hour to put this pen together! I didn't know that it didn't need that rubbery thing that came with the pen. I tried everything to put those pieces together. So, I cannot thank you enough for putting this newbie video up. I am totally subscribing to your channel!
Thanks! Just the tutorial I was looking for, I've just purchased a Pilot pen, and it has the same converter/thing, and I was figuring out how to change cartdriges, without damaging it,
Thank you so much I've searched videos and you are the only to show exactly how to use the cartridge and this is pen my boss has I had no idea how to replace the cartridge. Thank you!
Hi! Joined the ranks of fountain pen enthusiasts. Like others have mentioned above, totally confused with the instructions that came with my Metropolitan, so I found your video to be very useful. Thank you for taking time to record it!
That was soooo helpful. My wife got me the pilot metropolitan pen and I never was able to get it to work. When you put the large end in and pressed it, that's what I was missing. Now the pen works great! Thanks for the vid!
Three+ years later and I just wanted to say thank you for this video! I just picked up this pen and was dumbfounded by the instructions on the package, but this explained everything perfectly
Thank You, I just rec'd my Pilot Metro via Amazon - and wasnt 100% on the pump converter / ink cartridge assembly & your video answered my questions. Watched it, applied it - and now my 1st fountain pen writes - thanks ! Now I need to remember why I, an IT Systems Engineer, bought a pen in the 1st place...
I'm not sure if there is one that would work on this pen. You might try asking the folks at the Goulet Pen Co. They are super helpful and have a ton of knowledge. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you...for some reason I didn't get notification of this comment.
Very helpful. Simple, short and to the point video. I just bought my first pilot metro pop collection and there was no instruction leaflet. So I had to turn to RUclips for help. Your video helped me install the cartridge. Though initially I couldn't write coz I hadn't pressed the cartridge enough. Then I ended up pressing a bit too much with a bit of ink spill. Nevertheless, the pen writes awesome. thanks for this video. Regards from India.😊
Thank you for the video! I know it's the most basic thing, but I did realize it came with a converter and wondered what the heck that thing was. Thanks again!
After watching several videos regarding my new Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen, this is the only video that tells one how to insert the cartridge. If inserting it had worked the first time I tried, I wouldn't have needed this video. But... ink was not coming so I did further research, found this video with the 'how' etc., I know have a fountain pen that writes. Thanx for your video. Nice and easy.
Thank you for your video. I received two Pilot fountain pens for my birthday. The converter bladder ran out of ink quickly. I switched to cartridge. Your video made it easy to make the switch.
This was exactly what I was looking for. :) My Metropolitan didn't come with any instructions and I didn't even know that was a converter that was inside my pen.
Thank you so much for posting this! I just purchased my first fountain pen & I had absolutely no idea how to make it work until I watched this video. My new Pilot MR is working great! Thanks again!!!!
This was super helpful. I had to go through so many videos before someone, you, let me know what the thing in the middle is. Thank you for keeping me from breaking my new and first fountain pen.
Thank you so much for sharing. I had been trying to figure out how to insert the cartridge with the instructions provided. Your explanation was quick, easy and to the point.
Thanks for the tip, I have the metropolitan as well but didn't like the ink converter and its been sitting in a drawer for almost 2 years. I found these exact Pilot Namiki in cartridge on eBay and it came in today. I followed your steps and not my PM is running smoothly. THANK YOU for posting this video.
Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that my Metropolitan came with an ink converter ! Believe me, your instructions helped immensely. I got the Metropolitan retro pop flower w/medium nib. Love & Thanks from NYC 💜💛💚 Will be looking forward to more videos 💟
Thank you so much for this! This is my first fountain pen and though I read the instructions I was still super loss as to what to do and this helped a lot!
Hi, thanks for the video, very informative. Just got my very first Pilot, was so anxious to make it work, I squeezed the cartridge a little too much and squirted a big pile of ink on the paper. I hope this won't clog the nib. Anyway it is working great and I love it! New to fountain pens.
Handy, little bit jealous that yours worked so easily/straight away though ;) Mine refused to work, until I eventually squeezed too many times, or too hard and ended up with ink all over my hand, the pen does work now. A bit disappointed that the pen did not come with any instructions and that instructions do not appear to exist on the pilotpen website? I have no interest in using cartridges, since I believe the main point of purchasing a fountain pen these days is to be more environmentally friendly, so now I need to buy a bottle of ink and learn how to use the converter... without getting ink everywhere
Thank you so much! I have one last doubt - Do these cartridges perform as good as the converter? Bcoz I have seen hardcore fountain pen fans using the converter with a certain ink bottle. Can the cardidge outperform an ink bottle+converter?!
I had to tug on the ink bladder kinda hard to get it to come out. I came here looking to find if I was doing it correctly. So thank you! Oh, and you got me too.... two squeeze = mini ink cannon ;-)
Basic, but useful information. I was trying to insert the proprietary cartridge in backwards (duh!) This pen comes with printed instructions, so nobody should have problems not understanding what to do. Problem is, many people don't read them.
Hey I just got one of these today and I'm loving how it rights, and all ready planning ahead for when it runs out, and want to try out the converter. Any suggestions for ink types?
+Jackisaboss1208 That's a hard question to answer because everyone has their own preferences. I have some of the J.Herbin ink with the gold flecks that I love, some Noodlers that is great and of course, one of my faves is the coral from Lamy. Do you have certain colors you are looking for?
Thank you for this video - I just bought my first pen, a Pilot Metropolitan Black Plain, and was completely lost as to what the metal thing inside was - the converter. I feel like an idiot! haha
I like the pilot metropolitan pen and it's writing smoothness but not sure about pilot ink as it's way too light...will have to see the other ink options maybe next time.....
Hi, I just bought one and I cant seem to pop in the cartridge. Are there any techniques to push in the cartridge? or literally push it in as hard as you can? Btw, I am using the IC 50 cartridge. Is it suitable? Thanks
This video was soooo helpful! Awesome sauce! I just got the turquoise Pilot Metropolitan as my very first ever fountain pen with the blue-black Namiki ink cartridges but wasn't sure how to remove the converter in order to use them. Question: once I finish w the Namiki cartridges, I plan on trying out the converter w bottled ink. Can I use Noodler brand bottled ink in the Pilot Met?
thank you so much, it helped me! But I have a question: which one should I buy: fine or medium nib? It will be my first fountain pen and I don't have no clue about which nib I should get.
This really depends on you...a fine nib will be smaller...will write smaller etc. If you go to the Goulet Pen Co. site they have a nib comparison feature that will give you an idea of the difference. Hope that helps!
I do not know why but my Namiki cartridge still dosen’t fit my pen even though I press it as hard as possible. The cartridge keeps on bending whenever I press the cartridge in.
Minnesota12 If you’re talking about the converter...after I put ink in it, I put it in the pen and very slightly twist the top so a little bit of ink goes through the pen to get it started.
I got that ink for Christmas, and I don't have the metropolitan fountain pen but my mom does. I just tried to put it in and it didn't work. Do you have any suggestions?
If you are using ink cartridges you really need to push it in to pop it open. Then I usually squeeze the cartridge a little to get it flowing through the nib. But do it over scrap paper so you don't make a mess. Hope that helps!
Everyone has different ideas about that...and it depends on where you want to take it, the pen, the ink, the climate etc. I have many fountains but keep ink in only the few I am using. There are also a variety of pen holders etc. I can try to be more specific if you give me more details or you can check out the Goulet Pen Company videos...Brian has a lot of great, helpful information in them. The Fountain Pen Network is also a source of a lot of information.
I'm so sorry I didn't see this sooner. Hopefully, it's already working for you. I typically just squeeze it until I see the ink start to come out and it depends a little on the ink cartridge because some are harder for me to squeeze...if that makes sense.
Can you tell the exact model of those ink cartridges for a Pilot Metropolitan like yours? I couldn't find a converter for it. CON-40 doesn't fit. It seems there are two types of Metropolitan. One uses CON-40 and the other, I do not know. Do you?
They are Pilot cartridges. Pilot fountain pens only use Pilot ink cartridges as they are proprietary. The Pilot Con-40 Pitson Converter should fit. This may sound silly but make sure there isn't a loose cartridge stored in the pen body. Some companies do that.
+Alfred Pisco I am not sure I understand. The one I showed in the video is the one that came with the pen. It is simply called a converter. There are different types for different pens. The ink I showed in the cartridge in the video is not waterproof but you can buy other ink if that is something you want. Please let me know if you still have questions.
I've seen many videos and not one showed hot to use the ink cartridge. Thank you so much for the upload.
You're welcome!
Precisely, I was unsure how to put it, thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! I just bought this pen. I fought for over an hour to put this pen together! I didn't know that it didn't need that rubbery thing that came with the pen. Thanks so much! Enjoy the pen!
I did the EXACT same thing. Haha
Thank you very much! If only the booklet that comes with the pen were half as informative as this video!
Thanks! Just the tutorial I was looking for, I've just purchased a Pilot pen, and it has the same converter/thing, and I was figuring out how to change cartdriges, without damaging it,
Allan Nuñez Glad it helped! Enjoy the pen!
Yes same here..
Thank you so much I've searched videos and you are the only to show exactly how to use the cartridge and this is pen my boss has I had no idea how to replace the cartridge. Thank you!
Perfect! Mine had a converter in it and I was SO confused about how that's supposed to work... Writing great now!
I saw a picture of this pen, so I bought one, had no clue what I was doing, but then I saw this video and Im so thankful you make videos. : )
Thanks so much!
Hi! Joined the ranks of fountain pen enthusiasts. Like others have mentioned above, totally confused with the instructions that came with my Metropolitan, so I found your video to be very useful. Thank you for taking time to record it!
No problem...glad it helped...enjoy your pen!
That was soooo helpful. My wife got me the pilot metropolitan pen and I never was able to get it to work. When you put the large end in and pressed it, that's what I was missing. Now the pen works great! Thanks for the vid!
Thank you! I just ordered my first pilot fountain pen and couldn't figure out what to do - your video was exactly what I needed! Thanks!
Three+ years later and I just wanted to say thank you for this video! I just picked up this pen and was dumbfounded by the instructions on the package, but this explained everything perfectly
Crowcath Thanks! I appreciate the kind comment.
I agree. I just opened my new Metropolitan and also thought the instructions were lacking. I had no idea there was a converter in the pen. 💞💞💞
Uh because they are fun! And cool to use! Glad the video helped! ;)
Can I put a calligraphy nib on this ?

After having this ink cartridge explode all over my hand I finally found a useful video. Thank you so much.
Glad it helped!
Luckily I found this video before I try to pull the new ink cartridge out.

Kimberly Onnen I’m glad it helped...enjoy your pen!
I just received mines in the mail today and I must say I love how it writes. Thank you for sharing how to set one up.
Thank you - I was not having any luck getting the ink to flow. I appreciate your help!

Thank you very much! I got the pen which came with incomprehensible instructions. You helped me not to return it. I love it now.
Thank you so much for posting this! I just purchased my first fountain pen & I had absolutely no idea how to make it work until I watched this video. My new Pilot MR is working great! Thanks again!!!!

Simple and straight video. My fountain pen cherry has been popped! Thank you AK!
Interesting way to put it but you are welcome! ;)
Thank you so much! I needed your tutorial. I kept trying to put the cartridge the other way around. Now it's perfect.
Perfect. I just needed to know if wide side up or down. And you answered that with no problem. Thanks.
I'm so glad it helped! The Metropolitan is a great pen...enjoy!
I wish I'd watched this before I tried to follow the instruction booklet and ended up covered in ink, haha.
I did the same. Haha

I got this pen as a gift . I always wished for a fountain now I got it and I was kinda confused so this video helped me a lot thank you
Thankyou so much! The pen comes with absolutely no instructions, but it is very beautiful. It's my first fountain pen, as well.

Thank you for this informative video. I just bought my first Pilot Metropolitan Pen and didn’t have a clue.

Hi, thanks for the video, very informative. Just got my very first Pilot, was so anxious to make it work, I squeezed the cartridge a little too much and squirted a big pile of ink on the paper. I hope this won't clog the nib. Anyway it is working great and I love it! New to fountain pens.
Ah! I forgot to squeeze the cartridge.. thanks haha
thisi s my first fountain pen so ı really thank you
Is there a way to use regular/common ink cartridges?
Gollyy Not on a Pilot pen...their cartridges are proprietary. 🙁 You could get a converter and then use any ink you like.
@@AKCaraboo Always used a converter and bottled ink but I found a ton of cartridges and thought I'd use them up before the bottle. Thanks
Gollyy You’re welcome!
Thanks for the tip about squeezing the ink cartridge!
No problem...glad it helped!
Didn't know I was supposed to squeeze! Thank you so much. I thought it was defective...
Perfect video. Answered all my questions
Handy, little bit jealous that yours worked so easily/straight away though ;) Mine refused to work, until I eventually squeezed too many times, or too hard and ended up with ink all over my hand, the pen does work now. thanks so much for your video, it really help my son a lot !
Glad I could help! Hope he enjoys the pen!
You have a beautiful writing and nice tip :-)
***** Thanks!
Thanks so much for this video! Turns out I was just trying to put the cartridge in upside down, lol.
Glad it helped!
Basic, but useful information. I was trying to insert the proprietary cartridge in backwards (duh!) This pen comes with printed instructions, so nobody should have problems not understanding what to do. Problem is, many people don't read them.
Thank you so much! It was very helpful to have a play by play on my first metropolitan.
Very useful video. Thanks.
I'm having problems puncturing the cartridge, it's so frustrating
You have to give it a very firm push to puncture the cartridge. You feel and maybe hear a little pop when you get it right.
I'm having massive problems too. I've had fountain pens for years. But somehow can't get it in. I've already exploded two from pushing so hard.
Thanks for the tutorial, much appreciated!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much! Helpful video!
Hey I just got one of these today and I'm loving how it rights, and all ready planning ahead for when it runs out, and want to try out the converter. Any suggestions for ink types?

+Jackisaboss1208 Parker or Pelikan I had the same idea and like both of those a lot
Thank you for this video - I just bought my first pen, a Pilot Metropolitan Black Plain, and was completely lost as to what the metal thing inside was - the converter. I feel like an idiot! haha
What's the squeeze converter for? How do I use that?
I like the pilot metropolitan pen and it's writing smoothness but not sure about pilot ink as it's way too light...will have to see the other ink options maybe next time.....
Thank you. Bought my first pen and forgot to take converter out.... LOL oops. Wondered why it wouldn’t close. I made a mess.
Hi, I just bought one and I cant seem to pop in the cartridge. Are there any techniques to push in the cartridge? or literally push it in as hard as you can? Btw, I am using the IC 50 cartridge. Is it suitable? Thanks
Yes. Very helpful. Thank you.
Loved This video, and of Course Love My Metropolitan Pilot ❤
TY !
Excellent Vid & I have the same set up. but in Gold. I'm loving it, it writes beautifully
It goes very well with my Midori :)
*♥*
Fountain Pens and Midoris are perfect for each other :)
Yes they are !
Carla got my package today, Thank you so much...You will love yor new fountain pen Mine from pilot isnt as nice but love how they write Hugs Donalda
very helpful, thank you!
You're welcome!
You can use any ink as long as you have the converter. That said...only Pilot cartridges work in Pilot fountain pens if you want to use cartridges.
thank you so much, it helped me!
Thanks a lot, really helped me out
I just got the explorer and it’s the same concept but I was so very confused 😂
Would also like to see how you use converter. Saw one utube saying there was a clear one (50) and opaque one (100). Which do you like best and why?
I don't actually have a preference...usually they are included with the pens I buy. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Lol, I was trying to put the cartridge in backwards. Thanks!
Love your videos! :)
I do not know why but my Namiki cartridge still dosen’t fit my pen even though I press it as hard as possible. The cartridge keeps on bending whenever I press the cartridge in.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Thank you for this video
Thank You
Hey so what about the ink that came with the pen? In the metal holder? How do you get that to work ? It has ink in it.

There are also a variety of pen holders etc. I can try to be more specific if you give me more details or you can check out the Goulet Pen Company videos...Brian has a lot of great, helpful information in them. How long do you have to squeeze for for the ink to come
I'm so sorry I didn't see this sooner. Hopefully, it's already working for you. I typically just squeeze it until I see the ink start to come out and it depends a little on the ink cartridge because some are harder for me to squeeze...if that makes sense.

Super easy peasy!! Tfs!!;)
Can you tell me where you got your converter or what model or name it is?
I bought it with my pen from the Goulet Pen Co.
Whats the ink converter for pouring bottled ink into?is the ink waterproof?
